Bio:

Metalite was formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 2015 when Edwin Premberg [guitar] met Emma Bensing [vocals]. He presented his musical ideas and vision to her, and she agreed to join the band. The goal was to write and record melodic and memorable metal songs with a modern and fresh sound.Edwin and Emma started to co-operate with the Danish producer Jacob Hansen [Volbeat, Evergrey, Amaranthe] and songs started to take shape. During 2016 Metalite found three experienced musicians that agreed to join the band: Lea Larsson [drums], Robert Örnesved [guitar] and Robert Majd [bass].A deal was signed with the Swedish label Inner Wound Recordings, and the Metalite debut album "Heroes In Time" is scheduled to be released in October 2017."Afterlife", the first single from the album showcase the Metalite sound in a perfect way, but other songs from the album like "Nightmare", "Heroes In Time" or "Purpose of Life" are just as likely to become fan favorites."Heroes In Time" is an impressive debut album filled with melodic and memorable songs, crowned with the strong and emotional vocals by vocalist Emma Bensing as well as a powerful production by Jacob Hansen. The album should be perfect for fans of bands like Beyond The Black, Dynazty and Amaranthe! The artwork was created by Jan Yrlund [Apocalyptica, Leah, Korpiklaani] and guest appearances on the album includes Fraser Edwards [Ascension] and Jakob Svensson [Wigelius].

Album:

Combining Swedish pop sensibilities and soaring vocals over a hard rock backdrop, Metalite have released a debut album that screams for attention. As music fans are well aware, Sweden is known for producing great pop bands and perhaps fittingly, Metalite hails from Stockholm, Sweden, getting their start in 2015. Guitarist Edwin Premberg met vocalist Emma Bensing and the rest is, as they say, history. The two of them becan to cooperate with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Evergrey, Amaranthe) and the songwriting process began. During 2016, the two picked up the rest of the band members Lea Larsson (drums), Robert Örnesved (guitar) and Robert Majd (bass) and the band signed to Inner Wound Records with Heroes in Time being produced by Jacob Hansen.“Afterlife” opens up the album and makes for a great introduction to the band and to what is to come on the album. First thing metal fans will notice is the strong, sometimes dominating keyboards, so much so that at times the guitars seem almost like an afterthought. As the song gets going, Emma Bensing’s smooth, clear vocals next grab the listener’s attention as they are literally made for this style of music. “Purpose of Life” is more of the same, opening keyboards dominating much of the sound but a strong driving rhythm section of guitars and drums that come more to the forefront in the verse sections accompanying the midrange vocals. While far from the aggression in most of what I listen to, there is no escaping the catchiness of the songs. As said before, think of catchy pop songs combined with some power metal.“Nightmare” opens with near acapella vocals from Emma Bensing and until the guitars come in, one may think this is just another pop song. As in the beginning of this song, much of her vocals seem to be layered with other voices, especially in what could be chorus or bridge sections and that element also adds to the pop feeling of the songs. Her voice, however, is plenty strong on its own as can be heard in “The Hunter” and elsewhere, so this change makes a nice contrast. Nightmare is the first time a noticeable guitar solo is included in the song as well, and as one would expect, it is structured to fit within the song very well and doesn’t alter the overall sound. The title track “Heroes in Time” really takes the sound up another notch. The opening keyboards introduce a nice pounding beat which is picked up by the rest of the band and carried throughout the rest of the song. The catchiness is undeniable and the various shifts in drum patterns by Lea Larsson throughout the song keep things interesting as do some of the rougher sounding riffs and guitar solo. The band really seems to hit their stride with this song. While “Afterlife” is a great introduction to the band, I would have to say “Heroes in Time” is the one that shows the full potential of the band at this time. The album progresses from there with more solid songs with “In the Middle” and “Black Horse Rider” standing out, but for different reasons. “In the Middle” shows the band veering into the realm of ballads and perhaps toward an Evanescence-type sound that just seemed a bit forced for my liking. Granted, Emma Bensing’s voice is not Amy Lee’s and that’s a good thing, but this song may be better suited with a voice and vocal style more like Amy Lee. Then again, most of what I listen to is angry males screaming and trying to destroy their vocal chords, so just keep that in mind. “Black Horse Rider” on the other hand has an opening reminiscent of Dragonforce and the song settles into a nice groove that has a number of great guitar fills scattered throughout.Given the emphasis on keyboards in the sound, I was pretty sure I was not going to like this album at all, and it won’t be on my Top 10 list but I really do struggle to find anything from a performance or songwriting aspect that I can really criticize. I do find perhaps a bit of irony in the name Metalite as this album almost seems like it is “Metal Lite”, but all snarkiness aside, Heroes in Time is filled with catchy hooks, strong performances, and solid pop-influenced hard rock that has impressed this aging punker/metalhead.

Album:

The future is close and she looks pretty overwhelming. Two years after their exciting debut, "Heroes In Time", the Swedish melodic metal renewers Metalite return with a new singer and a giant stroke. This band could be the new heroes of modern metal: trendsetting, epic and of highest quality. Of course, we have been knowing for long that the Swedes do have a hand for successful metal, but an album with the quality of "Biomechanicals" is even a rarity for this country. Influenced by the concept of bands like Within Temptation, the quintet from Stockholm reinvents classic melodic metal and unleashes a storm of power, monumentality and zeitgeist that you cannot escape. "Biomechanicals" continues the high level from their debut and turns everything to 11, what stood on 10 before: a richer production, stronger songwriting and an elusive and mysterious aura that distinguishes "Biomechanicals" from everything you already know about melodic metal. With Metalite's expertly use of electronic elements, influenced by the trance era of early 21st century, sphaeric layers mix with flirring sequences and stoic beats fit like a second skin for the massive, melodic and outrageous catchy soundwall. But also the new singer Erica Ohlsson shapes that energetic sound. Metalite's AFM debut is a futuristic glimmering garment made of melodic and symphonic metal that differentiates lyrically from the rivalry. "We surround ourselves already that naturally with all these technological gadgets that we do not recognize anymore how they observate us", says the guitarist about the contemporary and unsettling content of the album. A flaming fire in their bellies, sparked off by another high-end production of Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe), Metalite is more than ready for their next step. It could be a very big one.

Album:

The update for modern power and melodic metal will becoming sooner than expected. With a new album, called "A Virtual World", the Swedish power metal quintet Metalite puts itself back on the metal dance floor and set out to reinvent classic melodic metal by unleashig a storm of power, monumentality and zeitgeist that you cannot escape. Like they have started on "Biomechanicals", the Swedes continue to expertly make use of electronic elements, influenced by the trance era of early 21st century, spheric layers mixed with flirring sequences and stoic beats fitting like a second skin for the massive, melodic and outrageously catchy wall of sound with which they continue to draw a picture of a modern "A Virtual World", not as dark as on the last album "Biomechanicals", but showing more hope and perspective how our future world can and should look like.Metalite are more than ready for the release of their third full-length effort. Are you too?

Album:

Swedish modern power & melodic metal band Metalite is dropping its fourth album, "Expedition One", combining powerful female voices with melodic synths and bright catchiness of lead guitars. Mix & mastering were handled by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe, Epica, Evergrey). Metalite collected over 25M streams so far. For fans of Within Tempation, Amaranthe and Follow The Cipher. In order to translate the vision of a thoroughly impressive concept album into reality, a band requires not only an exciting theme and a number of haunting songs, but also plenty of musical experience and skill. All these criteria apply to "Expedition One", that inspires with a wide range of diverse compositions and an intelligent sci-fi story that couldn't be more topical. In addition, the fourth release manifests the musicians' amazing artistic development. "In the past four or five years, our sound has evolved considerably", explains Edwin Premberg, mastermind and producer of the band, which was founded in 2015. "The quality of our production in particular has progressed considerably since our debut."The theme of "Expedition One" is a fictitious story about life on our planet in the year 2055. The 'transparent citizen' has become a bitter reality, with physical and mental health conditions increasingly determining our lives. Headed by five 'commanders', a renegade team consisting of former intelligence service and military personnel plus breakaway tech company executives is planning a survival expedition to distant planets. Their mission: to transport mankind from our ruined planet to a new world, in the hope that new life will develop. A fantastic adventure begins, with lots of unexpected experiences and a completely new understanding of the mysteries of life. Premberg: "It's about human evolution and the fact that we permanently go for the easy way out, even when it's evidently not our best option."This visionary sci-fi story is told over sixteen multi-faceted songs that combine the quintet's many strengths: powerful and at the same time delicate guitar riffs and solos, anthemic melodies courtesy of vocalist Erica Ohlsson, driving rhythms and cleverly positioned keyboard parts. The range of songs includes typical Metalite tracks such as "Blazing Skies", "Aurora" and "Free" with their tight arrangements, as well as unexpected tracks such as "Sanctum Of Light", "Outer Worlds" and "Paradise", which are likely to surprise the band's fans. And of course, there's "Utopia", the very first instrumental in Metalite's history. Premberg: "Fans have frequently told us that our songs have a cinematic quality, so we wanted to write a story that would forge an arch between "Expedition One" and our previous albums "Heroes In Time" (2017), "Biomechanicals" (2019) and "A Virtual World" (2021) to tie them all together. At first this was a little tricky, but since we've agreed on the gist of the story, we've been really happy with the result."In addition to band members Erica Ohlsson, Edwin Premberg, Robert Örnesved (guitar), Robert Majd (bass) and Lea Larsson (drums), sound engineer Jacob Hansen, who mixed and mastered the material at his Hansen Studios, has been instrumental in the final result. And so all gear wheels mesh on "Expedition One", taking its listeners on a captivating journey from the first to the very last note.
