Bio:

Belgian heavy metal band from Aalst formed in 1981.The members were initially active as a punk band under the name The Onion Dolls, formed in 1980, wherein Peter de Windt took over both vocals and drums. Through the influence of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, they formed the heavy metal band Crossfire in 1981, which consisted of singer and guitarist Nero Neerinckx, guitarist Marc van Caelenberge, bassist Patrick "The Beast" van Londerzele (ex-Warhead and drummer Peter de Windt. The band can be heard for the first time in 1982 on the sampler Metal Clogs by Aardschok with two songs. The release of the record was via Rave-On Records.Afterwards Neerinckx left the band and was later convicted of murdering a policeman. Drummer de Windt then moved to the vocalist position, with Chris de Brauwer joining as the new drummer. The band then recorded their debut album See You in Hell, which was released on Mausoleum Records in 1983.The group was one of the first bands on that label. The album sold very strongly, especially in Europe. It was followed by gigs together with Accept and Iron Maiden. In 1985, the band played their first gigs in England, including two in London. Their first concert in that city was in Wellington at Shepherd's Bush, promoted by Shades Records.A second album, Second Attack, followed in 1985, featuring Rudi van de Sijpe as second guitarist. The band's first two albums sold over 30,000 copies in total.Through licensing to Poland, the albums also achieved some distribution in the Eastern Bloc, including the GDR. In the same year, the band played at the Shockwave Festival in Belgium, among others. After their third album Sharpshooter in 1986, on which van de Sijpe had been replaced by Jacky D'Hondt, the band lost their record contract with Mausoleum Records. The following year, a live album was released, which had been recorded on the band's last tour of the Benelux countries. Singer de Windt had meanwhile left the band to play with Ostrogoth.Van Londerzele then took over the vocals, before the band broke up shortly afterwards.

Album:

Well crossfire from Belgium was always a band I could take or leave when putting their records on. They had some very good songs and then some ‘throw away’ unmemorable tracks as well. The vocals were very reminiscent of Marc Storace of krokus fame and the music just your ‘typical’ 80s fare, with sadly no stand-out players in any category! This, theirr debut record "See You In Hell" is not very spectacular, kinda as ‘average’ as the LP title itself! A few songs, ‘Killing A Cop’ and the more lengthy and catchy ‘Fly Away’ are probaly the best tracks. Though honestly this record is a bit too one-dimensional across the board for its own good! ‘Starchild’ has a great interesting opening riff but then like so many crossfire tunes just falls into the ‘crossfire curse’ of losing power and just kinda ‘pacing’ through a ‘Heavy Metal’ song! ‘See You In Hell’ is at least more up-tempo and closes on a better note! But in all honesty this record isn’t THAT good! By farrrrrrrrrr a better record than "See You In Hell" right from the get go is "Second Attack"! Seems a raging fire was lit under their asses and that worked real well in increasing tenfold the ‘energy’ level! Almost becoming a speed band exclusively! Opening with the up-tempo title track and then plumaging through seven more Metal rockers with much more depth and truly thriving ‘conviction’. I’d much more recommend this record to anyone into checking out the ‘fire! My fave tracks being ‘Feeling Down’ (great chorus and awesome solo section!) and you can’t deny the amazing moments in ‘Atomic War’! Hell, as I listen to this record I realize even more now just how powerful crossfire was later on in their career! Speed on top of speed is always good when it’s got good riffs backing it up! And this record surely does! Hell let me now say on this record they got it ‘right’, and in the end this is a great, great, great record and maybe their best and ‘finest hour’!
