Bio:
Pandemic was founded in 2010 by Nils Papke and Oliver Happ, who decided to live out their passion for 80s hard'n'heavy and write songs in the classic old-school style. Shortly afterwards, bassist Klaus Petig and drummer Sven Maier joined the band. All members of Pandemic are experienced musicians who have served in various hard rock and metal bands for many years. One could convince oneself of the band's live qualities for the first time at the 2nd Power-Of-Metal-Festival in April 2012. Shows at the Ragnarock Festival (together with bands like Sodom and Black Messiah), the Leckfest in Bad Hersfeld (with Dimeless and Pangea), or as support for the Kassel metal legend Reaper, among others, followed and cemented Pandemic's reputation as a convincing live band.In 2015, shows followed, among others, together with the US-American NWOBHM high-flyers Night Demon and at the Rock am Stück Festival in Fritzlar together with the British legend Saxon! In August 2014, the EP "Infected" was released, which is available for 5 euros plus shipping at info@pandemic-metal. If you like old-school metal and a rousing live performance, you should definitely not miss a Pandemic show.
Album:
Debut new album of the German Heavy Metal Band PANDEMIC.Who has come up with a rather macabre marketing gag here? A band that calls itself PANDEMIC and the matching album "Global Collapse - Disease X", more platitude is not possible. It's just stupid when the band has been calling itself PANDEMIC for more than ten years. The band members would hardly have thought it possible that the band name would one day take on such a significance. So the gentlemen from Kassel feel called to bring a record onto the market during the pandemic."Global Collapse - Disease X" by PANDEMIC is not about the pandemic. Also from Hesse come DISBELIEF, who delivered a certain prophecy in March 2020 with the album title "The Ground Collapses". However, "Global Collapse - Disease X" does not deal with the pandemic. Rather, it is about the abysses of humanity, hatred, war and unscrupulousness, which will lead to global collapse. For a band that has existed for more than ten years, whose previous output is an EP and who are now realising their debut work on their own, no glossy production is to be expected. After the instrumental intro, "God Versus God" and "Global Collapse" are played, the sound is more than well described as old school in 80s style. Apart from that, there is classic, fast-paced heavy metal with vocals that take a bit of getting used to."Into The Abyss" starts in mid-tempo, but quickly changes into the familiar pattern. Whether "Blood Spangled Banner", "Embrace The Void", "Feed The Greed" or "Horrific Pandemic": there is not much variety to be heard. The songs are always similar in terms of string work and structure. The interspersed guitar solos in "Blood Spangled Banner" provide relief with the siren sounds, the vocals end the intermezzo.PANDEMIC are not the only self-directed releases with "Global Collapse - Disease X". With the amount of monthly outputs, it is difficult for below-average productions to stand out from the masses. PANDEMIC don't deliver special trademarks or creative arguments and so the disc runs down without songs or melodies staying in the memory longer. Big fans of underground sound in combination with 80s and 90s heavy metal can risk a listen, but should not set the bar too high.
