The Rods are an American heavy metal band formed by David "Rock" Feinstein (guitar and vocals), Garry Bordonaro (bass and vocals) and Carl Canedy (drums and vocals).Feinstein had first come to mainstream attention after playing in Ronnie Dio And The Prophets, The Electric Elves, Elves and Elf, with his cousin Ronnie James Dio. The Rods sound differed considerably from Elf, adopting a more traditional heavy metal sound compared with the blues-rock sound that Elf preferred.Their first album was originally released independently as Rock Hard in 1980 and the following year the band was signed by Arista Records, who rerecorded the album tracks and released it simply titled The Rods. Their second album Wild Dogs followed in 1982 and was re-released in 2004.The Rods' third album, released 1983, was entitled In the Raw In 1984 Canedy and Bordonaro played on Jack Starr's album Out of the Darkness with Rhett Forrester of Riot and Gary Driscoll of Rainbow. The Rods are back with the release of their new album, “The Brotherhood of Metal,” on June 7 2019, via Steamhammer/SPV. Their 1st since 2011’s “Vengeance.”The Rods consist of David “Rock” Feinstein on guitars and lead vocals, Carl Canedy on Drums and Garry Bordonaro on bass. All 3 musicians are top flight players, having played together as a unit since the early 80’s. David as you may already know is the cousin of the great Ronnie James Dio, and they played together in the band Elf. So on to The Brotherhood of Metal album. It’s a top notch, classic straight ahead Metal album, typical of The Rods’ style of composing and arranging songs. Some of the lyrics touch on subjects such as the relationship metal people have with metal music - and each other, a biker themed song and even a song that speaks of the history to the present day, of the band itself. All 3 guys put in excellent performances, and it results with the individual songs fitting together very well to make a complete album, it’s consistently very good. There are no ballads, it’s an album with primarily mid to up-tempo tracks. (There are 2 songs on the album that were on one of Feinstein’s solo albums, Bitten by the Beast, “Smoke on the Horizon” and “Evil in Me.” Both are good songs that are pretty similar to their original release.There’s a presence of an organ/keyboards on multiple songs on this album, but not over done, nor does it take away from this being a quality metal album. It’s very much on par with the aforementioned “Vengeance,” and quite possibly even better! This is a very good album that sounds better with each listen."Brotherhood Of Metal" will be released as a CD digipak, 2LP gatefold (incl bonus track "Crank It Up (35 Years)"), as a digital download and via stream music services.

Rock Candy specialists have ‘Remastered & Reloaded‘ three of the most celebrated ’80s albums from underrated New York rockers THE RODS. Properly titled “Let Them Eat Metal“, Rods’ fourth studio album is a cult classic.This 1984 LP combines the AC/DC meets Motorhead attack of The Rods’ early albums with the polished production and the vibe of Quiet Riot’s ‘Metal Health’, and some from Canadians Helix, early Twisted Sister and Riot. It’s darn heavy US hard rock with a kick and catchy choruses.This Rock Candy remastered reissue sounds ‘big’, and adds 4 bonus tracks, including a cover of “You’d Better Run”, which was made famous by Pat Benatar.The Rods, despite their hallowed reputation, had been subjected to a string of overwhelming career obstacles, not least of all their sudden departure from major label Arista records and their inability to gain exposure in the UK after a string of lauded dates supporting Iron Maiden.Life was an uphill struggle for a band that at one point in their existence seemed to have it all in the palm of their hands.Refusing to succumb to this tidal wave of resistance, the band picked themselves up and released two further albums on independent labels, which led to a more substantive association with the newly formed Combat label in America.Helmed by Walter O’Brien (later to manage Pantera) who was also connected to the band via drummer Carl Canedy’s burgeoning production career, Combat bankrolled the band’s fourth studio album, titled ”Let Them Eat Metal”, originally issued in 1984.It is a record of dynamic power, packing a real punch, with such Rods classics as ‘Rock Warriors’, ‘I’m A Rocker’ and the peddle to the metal gear shift of ‘Bad Blood’. All songs that continued the emphasis on red hot hard n’ heavy, spearheaded by the track ‘She’s So Tight’.The record sold fine, and even gained a UK release through the Music For Nations label.This album is a fine testament of the band’s infatigable spirit and refusal to give up, and while The Rods never make it big at the major leagues, remains as cult classic for the genre.
