Wuppertal / Solingen are famous for the sharp Knives all over the world, but they are also the Cradle and the Center of German Metal, where famous international acts like ACCEPT started their carreer.They are also the hometowns of the Musicians of NINJA.NINJA had been founded in 1986 by Holger vom Scheidt (voc),Ulrich Siefen (git),Martin Reinert (git),Jörg Lennartz (b) und Christoph Segreff (drums).Each of these musicians had already a creative backhistory.Ulrich Siefen (git) had a band with the Ex-members of ACCEPT Jörg Fischer (git) and Frank Friedrich (drums) called BLACK JACK back in 1982.Holger vom Scheidt had been the Shouter of DANTON and MORDOR in the early 80´s.They played a lot of gigs all over Germany and established also the first Record Deal with DS Recording.In 1988 the first Album INVINCIBLE was released. This Creation received positive CRITICS by METALHAMMER and positive reactions from the Fanbase. Götz Kühnemund called Ninja the melodic ACCEPT(1989).Intensive Live Touring followed but at end of 1989 Christoph Segreff and Ulrich Siefen had been called to, leave the band, because of personal differences.Christoph Segreff was not a lucky man at all, after an car accident and after a long time choma he finally was relieved in 2009 RIP Christoph,one day we will meet again!1992 the remaining members released a self produced album called LIBERTY but this was also not a constant line up.In 1993 after NINJA was dissembled Holger vom Scheidt was the shouter of Ulrich Siefens new Line up US FORCE. They start touring.In 1997 Holger vom Scheidt and Ulrich Siefen bring NINJA back to life again and recorded Valley of Wolves, an album with good Song Material but 1997 was not the time anymore for classic Metal and the Album was not released.Again NINJA was in Hibernation.In 2004 Holger vom Scheidt and Ulrich Siefen recorded a new HARD ROCK Album under the new Name LIVING WRECK but also this formation ends in 2005.In May 2014 Holger vom Scheidt and Ulrich Siefen reunite again under the name NINJA with new songs and a new Album and live Line UP to be released End of 2014.

Much sought after for years by metal fans and collectors, "Invincible", the debut album by Germans NINJA finally has been remastered and reissued by specialized label Karthago Records via their Classics Series, in a limited edition of 666 (!) copies, with hologram and a purchase certificate.Germanic Wuppertal / Solingen area is famous for the sharp knives all over the world, but also for being the cradle of renowned international Rock acts like Accept.Ninja, while not successful as Accept, was part of the metal movement coming from there.Forging a musical style with a typical '80 Euro feeling based on a twin guitar attack, powerful rhythm section and strong lead vocals, Ninja created a solid fan base which lead into a recording contract.Ninja's debut "Invincible" was released in 1988, only on vinyl LP and in limited quantities, quickly becoming a collector's piece. The group recorded another album in the early Nineties and soon disbanded.But around 2014 Ninja returned (and still are active today) and this resulted into the interest to reissue the cult debut album, with the much needed remastering from the original tapes.Now, with a modern technology treatment of 24-bit remastering, "Invincible" sounds fuller, more powerful, with a lot of bite.Songs like 'Phoenix', 'Every Hour', 'Strangers' or the title track are perfect examples of pure '80s European Hard Rock / Metal with all the charm from the era.In the same league of early Europe / Norum, Victory, Pretty Maids, Scorpions ('Hold On' has a little Blackout flair) and of course Accept, Ninja's "Invincible" is a really nice album to discover for all-generation fans of the genre.GREAT and welcomed reissue / remaster.

Album:

Karthago Records will release Ninja’s Liberty on CD on May 20th. Liberty from 1992 was originally recorded only on CDR. This album is a bit more commercial than the band’s debut album, concerning songwriting and production. "Ice In Your Hand" and the very catchy songs "Time Time" and "Runner In The Night" show this, but it is still a very strong heavy metal album. 1992 was a bit late for well-played heavy metal, so the band could not make a break-through; and it was only a demo they had recorded. “Winds Of War is also a strong ballad.

Album:

„Valley of Wolves“ was released in 1997 as demo-CDR. But in those days – like nowadays – nobody was interested in CDRs. Songs like „Silver Dagger“ or the title track are very good and present German Heavy Metal like it should have been in the 80s. But it was the year 1997. The 90s were not a good decade for Heavy Metal and not many fans discovered these songs. „Kings Waltz“ was a nice song and is convincing with its statement: "I don't want to live the life of a Zombie". And if you are forced to a „Dirty Job“, than it is better to be forced musically by NINJA. Here are obvious parallels to AC/DC and NINJA are certainly not worse than their role model. There are also the strange song „Herbert“ and the really good track „Heart of a Beggar“. The album ends with the anthem-like „Alright“. A good song and yes, the 1997 opus of NINJA is definitely alright and this is why it is released in the Karthago classics series!

Album:

Ninja are a hard rock/metal band from Germany formed in 1986 who released a demo in 1987 and three albums between 1988 and 1997. Remaining quiet since the release of their third album, the band have now made a return to the big time with the impending 2016 release of their fourth album ‘Into The Fire’.Influenced by bands as wide ranging as Deep Purple, Accept and AC/DC, Ninja have a sound that is not entirely unique, but still packs a punch, with an emphatic atmospheric vibe. The album opens with the heavy, slow stomp of ‘Frozen Time’ echoing the kind of anthemic stomps that Manowar are famed for. A strong vocal delivery with a slight throaty rasp and a superb guitar solo. A thunderous opening and ‘Thunder’ is ploughing a path through the airwaves with chopping guitars and a heavier, much more intensified stomp. Catchy and addictive across the chorus ‘Thunder’ is blazing rage. Guitar driven ‘Vagabond Heart’ returns the mid tempo anthemic stomp to the album with a slight hint at the blues.Heavying things up is the slow pounding thud of ‘Masterpiece’. Guitars are heavy and the rhythm section hints at the doom metal genre. A cracking, if short, guitar solo brings ‘Hot Blond Shot’ to life, full of sleaze rock tendencies with a down and dirty feel about it. The chugging rhythm is foot tappingly addictive and your head will also be nodding in appreciation. At this point you begin to wonder if Ninja can play high energy, out and out heavy metal, or is the album gonna be one of those frustratingly slow mid tempo efforts that makes you ponder “when is the album gonna get going?”. Not with ‘Always Been Hell’, which slows down to a lighters in the air pace and a wave your arms from side to side vibe as it ambles on its way.Energy levels are finally raised as the AC/DC sounding ‘Blood On My Blood’ kicks in and would not be out of place on an AC/DC concert set list. The guitars boogie and the vocals are a gravel edged snarl. The big riffing ‘Coward’ is bold and brash and is an example of a mid tempo power metal thump. The rhythm is catchy, the guitars buzz and the gravel edged vocal delivery is well suited to this style of music. Mixing the eighties glam and sleaze rock genres ‘Last Chance’ is loud and in your face, with enough attitude to slap you around the head and make you listen.Although the album lacks any kind of pace, it is still a very hard hitting collection of songs that showcase the considerable experience of the band. The guitar work is superb with clear solos and the occasional screechy ones. ‘Sledgehammer’ storms in and hits you like, well, like a sledgehammer…and the song threatens to race off as the relentless guitar chug rattles and rumbles along at a pace somewhere between mid and top. The guitar driven ‘Supernatural’ pounds the senses with its addictive and memorable guitar hooks, snarling vocals and raucous rhythm. Bringing the album to a close is the title song ‘Into The Fire’ all soulful with excellent backing female vocals. The album is stacked full of songs that follow the slower, mid tempo, anthemic style and for a band that claims to be classic German power metal, you would have expected some high intensity, up tempo, out and out heavy metal that you could head bang furiously to, but sadly, there is not even one.Overall, mid tempo, chugging melodic hard rock with a gravel edged vocal delivery, superb guitar work and catchy rhythms.
