Bio:

The band formed in the 80s when almost all of the members were already playing in bands that could gather underground acclaim. However, after forming Sacred Steel they were able to draw larger attention and success. After opening for bands like Blitzkrieg they were signed to Metal Blade Records in April 1997 being the first German band ever to do so. Their debut album 'Reborn In Steel' was released October 1997 and with great press and fan response, Sacred Steel became one of the top German metal acts in a short time, maybe also due to the renaissance of True metal and successes of bands like Hammerfall. They released two more albums on Metal Blade: 'Wargods Of Metal' in 1998 (produced by Bill Metoyer of Slayer and Helstar fame) and 'Bloodlust'. Their third album was 'Bloodlust' in 2000, a concept album that saw the band broaden their stylistic horizon but, of course, staying a committed true metal band to the bone. They played many festivals in Europe, mostly underground ones but also the renowned Wacken Open Air twice and went on tour with many bands, e.g. Primal Fear and Children Of Bodom. After signing to Massacre Records they released 'Slaughter Prophecy' in 2002 which again saw the band playing around with a wide variety of influences that revealed the decades-long love of the musicians for all kinds of heavy metal. Some of the new songs even bordered on Doom metal or Death metal. The last album of the original lineup was 'Iron Blessings' that was released with a big bang in October 2004 - that very release show has been turned into a live CD and DVD under the title 'Live Blessings' (released 2006).After a year-long hiatus Jörg Michael Knittel and Oliver Großhans, the two original guitarists, left Sacred Steel to pursue their Death-Metal project My Darkest Hate. Jens Sonnenberg switched from bass guitar to guitar and two new members were quickly brought in: Kai Schindelar on bass guitar, the former guitar tech and roadie Jonas Khalil as additional guitarist.2006 saw the release of the first album with the new lineup which had been recorded with Sodom producer Harris Johns. 'Hammer Of Destruction' was a 'back to the roots'-album for the band and had very strong songs that reminded of rather archetypical heavy metal bands like early Metallica, Iron Maiden, Jag Panzer, Megadeth or Helstar. It was again a success with fans and media and even spawned a video clip to 'Maniacs Of Speed'

Album:

Sacred Steel is a German based metal group whom are releasing their new album Heavy Metal Sacrifice. Whilst they are not one of the most prominent names in metal Sacred Steel have actually released nine studio albums. This album marks quite a significant occasion for the group as it was twenty years ago that this traditional metal band was formed, and Heavy Metal Sacrifice shows that the band are still doing just fine.Heavy Metal Sacrifice appears some three years after Sacred Steel's last robust album The Bloodshed Summoning. From the lively title track classic metal fans are well catered for with Heavy Metal Sacrifice, right through to the brief metal/punk influenced and somewhat wacky track called "Iron Donkey". The songs of Sacred Steel are full of hooks and engaging surprises like on "Hail The Godz of War" with its full throttle thrash metal influences and "Vulture Priest" and those engaging tempo alterations, Sacred Steel twin guitar attack regularly dishes out plenty of the good stuff just like on the fired up "Children Of The Sky". If you haven't heard the songs of Sacred Steel but are familiar and fond of groups such as Dream Evil then Heavy Metal Sacrifice is certainly worth a go.

Album:

For more than 25 years, Sacred Steel have been offering metalheads a killer, trend-free alternative to bloated trigger drums, cheesy keyboards and boring cliché sounds that are hyped year after year as “the next big thing in metal”.Sacred Steel have always remained true to themselves, constantly reinventing their traditional style and releasing some highly acclaimed classics, such as their legendary debut “Reborn in Steel” (1997 as the first German band ever signed to Metal Blade Records), the follow-up “Wargods of Metal”, or their heaviest album to date: “Slaughter Prophecy”. April 25th, 2025, will see the iconic band release their 10th studio album, entitled “Ritual Supremacy”, which will be celebrated with a performance at the 25th anniversary of the “Keep It True Festival” and many more shows (find all upcoming dates, with many more to be announced soon, below!). The album is also the first to feature new members Toni Ieva (bass) and Jörn Langenfeld (guitar), who joined the band in 2023.Release date April 25th 2025.

Album:

New slipcase edition from Kill Again Records with new front cover.Sacred Steel's Bloodlust is the first and only album of their's that I have purchaced, or intend to purchace for that matter. There are definatly some solid points to this album, but even once you get used to the vocalist this album is little more than background noise. Don't get me wrong there are some definate high points that other reviewers have pointed out, the best of them being that unlike some "fantasy metal" bands (Bal-Sagoth) their lyrics do not make me burst out laughing when i read them. Over all the album is solid with some very good work on the instraments especially the drums, even the vocals are fine once you get used to them. Sure they aren't exactly melodic, but shit we aren't talking about an opera here, we're talking metal. Once you get used to this that is what Sacred Steel is: metal. There's nothing wrong with it, but unless you're playing a D&D game where someone is running around with a magic sword named Stormhammer, this is hardly a clasic or eve a must buy. Just some decent metal, and thats fine with me.
