Bio:

Band formed by Alan Atkins, former vocalist with Judas Priest from 1969 to 1973. When Atkins returned to England in 1989 he wanted to record some albums, as well as to show his version of the Judas Priest classic "Victim of Changes", which he co-wrote before leaving Priest in 1973 (the song was re-written and extended by Rob Halford in 1973-1974). Atkins approached a local band called A.N.D. which he'd met in 1988 while touring Germany and they recorded 3 albums before the 1995 split-up. In 1998 the band reformed with ex-Judas Priest (1980-1988) drummer Dave Holland and released another album in 1998.

Album:

Best known as the original vocalist for Judas Priest before Rob Halford, Alan Atkins quit to support his family prior to the recording of the band’s debut “Rocka Rolla”, despite contributing to its songs. Fast forward to 1990, and clearly ‘never satisfied’, Atkins – now aged 43, decided to launch his solo career, that went from strength to strength especially after hooking up with guitarist / producer Paul May. Now, aged 69, Atkins has decided to revisit his material over the last 4 decades and re-record it with range of guests including Judas Priest’s Ian Hill (who’s never recorded with anyone else outside of Priest!), John McCoy (Gillan), Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Stu “Hammer” Marshall (Death Dealer), Chris Johnson (Holy Rage) and last but not least long time friend and collaborator Paul May! Together they produce one helluva racket like on ‘Heavy Thoughts’ very much in line with the british steel that came out’ve the midlands in the 70s – not to mention a ripping cover of ‘Victim of Changes’ – here with multiple vocals blending high and grittier rock vocals that give you a real idea of what Priest might’ve sounded like had Atkins continued with them. Of course, the real bonus has been saved till last in a previously never heard Judas Priest demo of ‘Mind Conception’ which Atkins wrote featuring Ian Hill on bass and KK Downing on guitar – check out the psych trip of wah and wailing vocals – showing that on “Reloaded” Al Atkins is still rocking when others are settling into retirement!

Bio:

Alan John "Al" Atkins (born 11 October 1947, Stone Cross, West Bromwich, Birmingham, England) is an English heavy metal vocalist, perhaps best known for his association with Judas Priest.Atkins began his musical career in 1964, singing in a succession of blues rock outfits before forming a band in September 1969, named Judas Priest (named after the Bob Dylan song "The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest"). Featuring a musical direction unrelated to the future metal band, this band lasted until April 1970, developing a small following in Birmingham before splitting up over creative differences.By this time, bands such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were emerging, and Atkins was interested in pursuing a similar direction. Fellow Black Country musicians K.K. Downing, Ian Hill and John Ellis, who were in a band called Freight (April–October 1970) had similar musical interests, and teamed up with Atkins to form a new band. Atkins did not like the name Freight, so he suggested they be called Judas Priest, as he had rights to the name. After gaining a following in Birmingham, the Atkins-led Priest recorded a demo in 1971, which attracted the attention of Tony Iommi's management but failed to endear them with any of London's major record labels. With a wife and young daughter to support and no record deal in sight, Atkins was forced "to get a haircut and a 9-to-5 job" in May 1973.He was replaced by Rob Halford, who found himself singing many songs that were originally written by Atkins. Consequently, the album Rocka Rolla gives a portrait of Atkins' original vision for the band. Atkins eventually formed another band, 'Lion' and went solo after it dissolved. As of 2012, Atkins fronts the band Atkins/May Project, which also features guitarist Paul May.A press release dated 21 May 2011 stated that Atkins would be contributing session vocals for the heavy metal opera project, Lyraka. In 2013, Atkins will be recording a solo album of his favorite songs written between his days in Judas Priest to the Holy Rage days. He also will be working with guitarist Stevie Young, nephew of Angus Young from AC/DC.

Album:

ATKINS MAY PROJECT, the band featuring original JUDAS PRIEST singer Al Atkins and Christian guitarist and music artist Paul May, will release its third album, "Empire Of Destruction", on September 29 via Gonzo Multimedia.

Album:

So much excitement for Metal fans worldwide, original Judas Priest vocalist AL ATKINS is releasing his new solo album titled “Reloaded“. Don’t be fooled by the flagrant Fallout fan-art festooning the front of the CD; Al Atkins thankfully hasn’t gone down that road. Atkins is as determined to reimagine the classic Priest sound here.Atkins was the first, original singer with Midlands heavy rockers Judas Priest. With a wife and young daughter to support and no record deal in sight, Atkins was forced “to get a haircut and a 9-to-5 job” in May 1973. He was replaced by Rob Halford, who found himself singing many songs that were originally written by Atkins.Consequently, the album “Rocka Rolla” gives a portrait of Atkins’ original vision for the band. Atkins eventually formed another band, Lion and went solo after it dissolved, releasing four albums in the 1990s and a final, fifth album in 2007 as a solo artist.Despite being at the age that most men are thinking of retirement, Al is still rocking, and has re-loaded some of his songs with the help of Priest bassist Ian Hill of Judas Priest, (who has never recorded with anyone outside of the band until now), John McCoy (Ex Gillan), Ralf Scheepers of Germany from Primal Fear dueting with Al on “Victim Of Changes”, a solo from Roy Z Ramirez (Halford, Bruce Dickinson Band) & more .“Reloaded” also features a bonus track that is an excerpt a ’73 Judas Priest demo featuring Ian Hill on Bass and KK Downing on guitar – a never heard treat for all Judas Priest fanatics.
