Bio:
Paul Andrews (born 17 May 1958, in West Ham, London),better known as Paul Di'Anno, is an English singer best known as the first vocalist to record with the iconic band Iron Maiden, from 1978 to 1981.In his post-Maiden career, Di'Anno has issued numerous albums over the years, as both a solo artist and as a member of such bands as Gogmagog, Di'Anno's Battlezone, Praying Mantis, Killers and Rockfellas.Di'Anno grew up in Chingford, England – spending his teenage years singing in various rock bands and working as a butcher and chef. He became the band's singer after the departure of the very unpredictable Dennis Wilcock, who had pressured Iron Maiden founder and bassist Steve Harris into firing every member of the band (including Dave Murray), before becoming fed up himself. According to Iron Maiden's The History of Iron Maiden – Part 1: The Early Days DVD, he was introduced to the band by drummer Doug Sampson, an old friend of Harris' from his days in the band 'Smiler'. It was around this time that he first adopted the stage name Di'Anno, which he would later use to claim Italian descent.Their first audition with Rod Smallwood reputedly failed when Paul was arrested for showing off his pocket-knife in public. 1980's self-titled release quickly became acknowledged as a classic of its genre, as the band merged punk's energy with metal's riffs and progressive rock complexity, serving as the blueprint for such future genres as thrash metal and speed metal. 1981 saw the release of their second album, Killers, as well as a stopgap live EP, Maiden Japan. After having cancelled gigs due to Di'Anno's inability and, at times, lack of desire to perform, which had resulted from cocaine abuse and heavy drinking, Iron Maiden decided that to progress they would have to find a singer capable of withstanding the rigours of being on tour. They found a replacement in former Samson frontman Bruce Dickinson. In 1981, Di'Anno left Iron Maiden after a meeting with the band and their manager Rod Smallwood. In Di'Anno's words: "It's like having Mussolini and Adolf Hitler run your band. Because it is Rod Smallwood and Steve Harris and that's it. There can't be anyone else and my character is too strong for that so me an' Steve was always fighting".Di'Anno was paid out by Smallwood at the time of his departure and does not receive royalties on Iron Maiden songs.Di’Anno’s unique and extremely powerful voice had made a huge impression on rock music fans the world over, and also gained him an army of fans due to the sales of more than 20 million copies of the first two Iron Maiden albums (Iron Maiden and Killers) to date, featuring Paul’s unique vocal talent

Bio:
Warhorse is the original band/project of Paul Di’Anno. The first idea of forming a band arose in December 2021, when Paul and guitarist Hrvoje Madiraca met in Zagreb, Croatia. The formation and naming of this project happened simultaneously with the writing and recording of new songs, which were started immediately after Paul and Hrvoje joined hands and thus formed the band. Warhorse independently released the DVD single ‘Stop the War’ in a limited edition of 666 copies and sold it out in just a few days. This was followed by the fantastic ‘Stop the War’ lyrics video, which delighted fans around the world. The Warhorse project gathered fantastic guest musicians on some songs, and a video will be filmed for almost every song on the album. The core of the band itself is the three ‘horsemen’ Paul Di’Anno – vocals, Hrvoje Madiraca – guitars and Ante Pupačić Pupi – Guitars. Fans at Warhorse live shows can expect a live explosion, musical virtuosos and a top stage attraction. Paul Di’Anno in the stadium edition, would be the most appropriate description. Warhorse is a parallel band to his classic ‘Paul Di’Anno’ line-up and unlike his standard set list, Warhorse concerts will abound with Warhorse songs, with the addition of Iron Maiden classics and special, unexpected covers chosen by Paul Di’Anno.

The project was eventually named Battlezone, after a name straight from a comic book, upon the vocalist's return to Britain in 1985.Paul had previously known guitarists John Wiggins and John Hurley from bands such as Deep Machine and Iron Cross. The band's initial line-up comprised Di'Anno, guitarists John Wiggins & John Hurley, bassist Laurence Kessler and Adam Parsons on drums. The latter had gone under the stage name A.D. Dynamite whilst in Aunt May. However, Parsons left shortly after to replace Vince Hoare in the London-based glam band Belladonna (formed by former Hell's Belles vocalist Paul Quigley, with Paul Lewis, Jeff Fox and Neil Criss)and Falck reappeared on the scene in time to record the band's first album written by Di'Anno & DeeRal Fighting Back. 1986 also saw the enrollment of former Lonewolf and Tokyo Blade guitarist John Wiggins.Battlezone performed a club tour of America in 1987 to promote the début Fighting Back, but musical differences, arguments and physical fights within the band led to the departure of John Hurley and Bob Falck after the first tour. According to Di'Anno's book The Beast, Hurley had become an "egomaniac" and the drummer Falck a "liability", so they were thrown out the band. Their places were taken by ex-Persian Risk members Graham Bath and Steve Hopgood respectively, following the tour's completion. The second album to be released was entitled Children of Madness and achieved considerable commercial success. It featured a track entitled "Metal Tears", which is about a guy who was unable to have a steady relationship and built a female robot who he subsequently fell in love with. The original idea came from a book titled "Clone".However, the track received criticism from the media for being very similar to a track (entitled "London") on Queensrÿche's Rage for Order lbum.Guitarist Graham Bath, who had been recruited to play second guitar, wasn't enthusiastic about touring, so he was fired from the band. Peter West, the bassist, recommended a replacement Alf Batz, who joined just in time to go to New York for the video shoot."The video for "I Don't Wanna Know" was played in rotation on MTV in the US.Drugs and infighting again put a strain on the band. Towards the end of the final tour, most members had quit leaving Di'Anno to complete the tour with a backing band in order to fulfil his contract.Subsequently, American guitarist Randy Scott, along with Dave Harman on guitar and Eddie Davidson on bass, signed up with Battlezone. However, the band were without proper management and disbanded shortly after.Following the breakup of Battlezone, Di'Anno and Hopgood formed the power metal band Killers releasing four albums. Hurley would later form glam rock band L.O. Girls and release the "Twelve Bore Honeymoon" single in 1990 and "Just Can't Say I Love You" in 1993. During 1990, Di'Anno fronted Praying Mantis for a tour of Japan, which was recorded for the subsequent Live at Last album release with ex-Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton. Wiggins joined a reformed Tokyo Blade in 1995.By 1998, Di'Anno had resurrected the name Battlezone. Joining him were Wiggins and fellow ex-Tokyo Blade members bassist Colin Riggs and drummer Marc Angel. Second guitars were supplied by the Brazilian Paulo Turin. This line-up cut the album Feel My Pain, released by the fledgling "Zoom Club" label. Working titles for the album included "Spoon Face" and "Smack", both containing references to heroin use. The album had a heavier edge compared to the first two Battlezone albums. The band undertook a sold-out Brazilian tour in January 1998, with erstwhile Killers colleagues bassist Gavin Cooper and guitarist Nick Burr joining on this South American tour. The band toured Brazil in the same year playing a three-week tour to sold-out audiences up to 6000 fans a night. Being brought back down to earth, Battlezone upon their return home put on a gig at the Walthamstow Royal Standard with an audience of only a hundred or so and a gig at JB's Dudley in the West Midlands attracting fewer than a dozen fans. A live track from the Walthamstow gig later appeared on a compilation of all three Battlezone albums, entitled Cessation of Hostilities. Ex-Battlezone bassist Gavin Cooper joined Lionsheart in December 2004, then moved onto Statetrooper in May 2005. The bassist subsequently joined the ranks of Magnum singer Bob Catley's solo band for UK dates in April 2006.In mid-2008, a Battlezone compilation entitled The Fight Goes On was released as on the Phantom Sound & Vision label as a 3-CD box set featuring all 3 Battlezone studio albums.

Album:
PAUL Di’ANNO, the iconic former frontman of Iron Maiden, releases his brand new album “The Book of The Beast” where the singer celebrates his entire career, featuring 5 previously unreleased tracks alongside re-mastered and re-imagined classics from his time with Battlezone, Killers, and his solo ventures.A standout feature of the album is the darkly reworked versions of two Iron Maiden classics. Paul is joined by former Black Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin on a haunting rendition of ‘Remember Tomorrow‘, and ‘Wrathchild‘ features original Dragonforce frontman ZP Theart on a powerhouse duet with Paul. Both recordings also guests the drums of Russ Gilbrook (Uriah Heep). With a career that spans over four decades, Di’Anno’s influence on heavy metal is undeniable. While the first two Iron Maiden albums (‘Iron Maiden‘ and ‘Killers’) cemented his place in metal history, ‘The Book of The Beast‘ reintroduces fans to his solo work. Tracks like ‘Madman in the Attic‘, ‘The Living Dead‘, and ‘Children of Madness‘ have been meticulously re-mastered, bringing new life to these often-overlooked strong heavy rockers.Rather than act as a chronology, ”The Book of the Beast” tracks are organised in a far more organic manner: opener, The Beast Arises, dates from the Killers’ Murder One album back in 1992, and features a dual guitar attack reminiscent of Priest at their finest; Paul’s voice, while not Halford, has a far more metallic sound than his Maiden work.Mad Man in the Attic jumps us forward to the beginning of the millennium and the Nomad album. The hefty crunch, ironically, does conjure the Halford self-titled from the same year. Also taken from Nomad comes the balladic, Iced Earth-vibes of The Living Dead, showing the Di’Anno voice might be different from Dickinson’s, but Paul certainly always had the chops to at least compete with Bruce. The record’s title is the third and final song from that album and shows that there is much to appreciate in them-thar-tunes.The second Killers’ album, Menace to Society was released a mere two years after Murder One, yet the pair were a world apart when it comes to style. Both Die by The Gun and Chemical Imbalance have foregone the traditional Metal sound in favour of a mid-Nineties crunch and grooving guitars. Got to say, even though it might be seen as a way to remain relevant in those days, neither song sounds forced or gives the feel of Paul moving outside his comfort zone. The oldest song on offer here is Battlezone’s Children of Madness from the 1987 album of the same name and is closer to Dio or Priest, as opposed to what his former colleagues were doing on Somewhere In Time or Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. The fat, meaty guitars get down and dirty as Paul’s voice soars. The other Battlezone tunes are taken from the 1998 album Feel My Pain, with the title-track being, again, era-appropriate and the ballad, The Forgotten Ones bringing us back to the more traditional sound. The second half of the album is a collection of odds, ends and rarities which go into giving a bigger picture of the creative process. Covers of T-Rex’s Children of the Revolution, as featured on the Murder One album, while Venom’s Black Metal – from the sessions for Menace to Society – goes balls-out to challenge to original’s unrelenting speed.A short-lived project from 1999, The Almighty Inbredz, found Paul exploring his Punk side on the previously unreleased The Serpent and the Shrew, showing the influence of the UK82 scene on his style.Elsewhere, there’s the demo of The Beast is Back from 2003, on which Paul and guitarist, Chris Evans, were working on songs for what was going to be a new Killers’ record, a rip-roaring galloping tune; an acoustic version of Murder One’s Dream Keeper, recorded for radio broadcast in 2002, and a rehearsal recording of Menace to Society’s Three Words, captured as the band were preparing to tour with Metal Church, Vicious Rumors and Zodiac Mindwarp. While this is essentially a post-Maiden collection, there’s still room on the compilation for a couple of the old standards, Remember Tomorrow and Wrathchild. On the CD version, former Black Sabbath frontman Tony Martin lends his pipes to Remember Tomorrow and one-time DragonForce / Skid Row singer, ZP Theart, duets on Wrathchild. On the back of a productive twelve months, which saw Paul opening for KK’s Priest, his own headlining tour, and a set at the Stonedead pre-show last month, it feels we are witnessing the long-overdue renaissance of Mr Paul – The Beast – Di’Anno. Is the Beast back? Well, he never really went away, and long may he continue.

Paul Andrews (born 17 May 1958)better known as Paul Di'Anno, is an English singer best known as the first vocalist to record with heavy metal band Iron Maiden, from 1978 to 1981.In his post-Maiden career, Di'Anno has issued numerous albums over the years, as both a solo artist and as a member of such bands as Gogmagog, Di'Anno's Battlezone, Praying Mantis, Killers and Rockfellas. After the breakup of his self-titled band, Di'Anno formed Strike with DeeRal (guitar) who recruited drummer Bob Falck (who had used the name Sid Falck while playing drums in Overkill) and the Hurley brothers John (2nd guitar) and Chaz (bass).
Album:
On May 17 this year, the frontman of the groundbreaking first two IRON MAIDEN albums, PAUL DI’ANNO, would have celebrated his 67th birthday. Unfortunately, we received the bitter news last October that the charismatic singer had passed away unexpectedly at his home in Salisbury.“In Memory Of Paul Di’Anno” is a selection of the best songs that Paul recorded during his time at Metalville Records. In addition, the release contains as bonus tracks that have never been released in physical form before. “Je Suis Charlie” is a track from Paul’s ARCHITECTS OF CHAOZ phase, which was only released digitally at the time and now not available anymore. And there’s the classic “Killers” in a live version from the Wacken Open Air 2015, never released.Born in Chingford, East London on May 17, 1958, Di’Anno, whose real name was Paul Andrews, first came to prominence as lead singer of IRON MAIDEN between 1978 and 1981. He sang on their groundbreaking debut album “Iron Maiden” and the influential follow-up release, “Killers”.“In Memory Of Paul DiAnno” is a fitting tribute to honor this pioneer metalhead – the man, the myth, and especially, the music. Ten tracks equally representing the singers’ two releases for the label – Hell Over Waltrip / Live in Germany, and the Architects of Chaoz album The League of Shadows plus a pair of unreleased bonus tracks from the latter project.Yeah, it doesn’t hurt that a couple of the tunes are Maiden classics – the coolest thing is how hard these tracks rock. Despite getting the remastered treatment, the five bits culled from ‘Hell Over Waltrip’ spit out a raw energy that makes you almost feel like you’re there. You could do worse than depositing yourself in the middle of the room, kicking on the surround sound, and turning up the Hi-Fi as loud as you possibly can. That’s not to say that live tracks like “Impaler” or “The Beast Arises” won’t sound just as cool on a vintage boombox. The drums punch hard, the guitars cut like a machete, and vocally, Di’Anno is in fine form. The band even do gigantic justice to “Running Free” from Paul‘s old outfit and give a blast of extra energy to their take on the Ramones‘ “Blitzkrieg Bop.”Toss in the additional vigor of an audience eating it all up and you can’t help but to wish you were surrounded with the smell of beer, sweat and rock and roll. Di’Anno may have left behind a pretty cool body of studio work, but with live tracks such as these, you’re even more saddened that one of heavy metals iconic voices is forever silenced. The remaining tracks on ”In Memory Of” are courtesy of Architects of Chaoz, a late career project Di’Anno formed with his at the time touring band. For some, this might seem an odd choice due to the circumstances surrounding his departure from the band.Nevertheless, tracks like the blistering “Rejected” and hauntingly beautiful cover of Deep Purple power ballad “Soldier of Fortune” stand as a testament to Di’Anno‘s versatility. While he may have been a metal vocalist first and foremost, there’s no denying his ability to pull at the heartstrings of metal. From the dark allure of “Switched Off” to the thrashing brutality of “You’ve Been Kissed By the Wings of the Angel of Death,” the studio tracks found within this one are signature Di’Anno in every way.As is customary on specialty releases such as ”In Memory Of”, there are also yummy nuggets included, both attributed to Di’Anno‘s time in Architects of Chaoz. ´Each are as dangerously delightful as all the other tunes on the album and like those other songs, split evenly down the middle with one live and one studio track. The former, a killer rendition of Iron Maiden song “Killers” from the 2015 Wacken Open Air Festival and the latter, a speedy stomper entitled “Je Suis Charlie.” Both tunes duly deserving of being part of the Paul Di’Anno catalog to the point that you’ll want to listen beyond that first curiosity play.As expected, there will surely be some fans that will point to ”In Memory Of” as a release just for those who have to have everything Paul Di’Anno or as a good pick up for anyone who doesn’t already own either of his previous Metalville offerings.I guess that’s a fair statement but to be honest, this tribute to one of metals’ most iconic fallen heroes is an awesome pick up whether you own those other Metalville releases or not. Sure, you can buy it for just the bonus tracks but if this type of metal is your thing, you’ll end up playing it for ALL of the tracks.Despite featuring material from the latter part of his career, this birthday gift to the world is loaded with all of Di’Anno‘s old school heavy metal piss and vinegar. Enough so to make you want to pull your patch covered denim jacket out of the closet and turn the collar up.You might even forget about ages’ aches and pains, and uncover a mad desire to climb elbow to elbow into the middle of a huge heavy metal concert audience. Hell, you might even risk injury and bang your head a couple three times! HEY! If you don’t want to do it for yourself, at least do it ”In Memory Of Paul Di’Anno”.

Dennis Stratton - Born in Canning Town, London, Dennis Stratton early in life was a promising schoolboy footballer, who was briefly on the books at West Ham United until at the age of 16 he took up playing guitar. A keen fan of the East End music scene, his first serious band was performing with Harvest, who later became Wedgewood. After two years he then formed the locally popular Remus Down Boulevard. "R.D.B." playing to large crowds, touring in support with Rory Gallagher and Status Quo and recording a "live at the Marquee" album with music producer Jonathan King.Stratton was invited to join Iron Maiden as a second lead guitarist and backing vocalist by Steve Harris after he had seen Stratton playing with Remus Down Boulevard in 1979. He left Iron Maiden in October 1980, being replaced by Adrian Smith One of Stratton's earliest filmed appearances with Iron Maiden was in a concert at London's Marquee Club in October 1979. Dennis Stratton participated in the recording and production of the group's first album, Iron Maiden in December 1979. He has also appeared in the home video recording Live At The Ruskin in early 1980 (released in 2004 as part of The Early Days DVD set), Iron Maiden's first video "Women in Uniform," the Women in Uniform single, some subsequent single releases, as well as in the band's first appearance on British TV ("Running Free" performed live on Top of the Pops) and the Live!! +one album. Some concert bootlegs exist including a memorable performance at the 1980 Reading Festival. Stratton was also a member of Iron Maiden during their 1980 European tour, supporting KISS. Dennis Stratton left Iron Maiden in October 1980.Accounts of the reason for Stratton' departure vary; Stratton has mentioned that he left due to conflicts with manager Rod Smallwood and Steve Harris. Both Smallwood and Harris said they rated him as a singer and guitarist. Officially the band stated "musical differences" being the reason for his leaving Stratton was replaced by Adrian Smith.Since the recording of the band's first album, Stratton has been the only member of Iron Maiden not to have contributed to the writing of any recorded material. After his departure from Iron Maiden, Stratton played with bands such as Lionheart and, after a NWOBHM tour with them in 1990 joined Praying Mantis, staying to record nine studio albums and two live ones. Stratton officially left Praying Mantis in 2006, although his final recorded material with them was in 2003.Stratton can still be seen playing in pubs around the East London area and also in Essex. Stratton also performs in a reformed Remus Down Boulevard and often tours Europe with "Dennis Stratton Iron Maiden" and various bands playing classic-era Iron Maiden songs.Stratton is also endorsed by Caparison Guitars, from his days with Praying Mantis. Live, he uses a Marshall Twin Valvestate combo and a Boss effects/control unit.

PAUL Di’ANNO & DENNIS STRATTON album ”The Original Iron Men I”, just reissued 2025 on CD by a Brazilian record label Classic Metal Records. Oddly, and while not released by themselves, No Remorse is selling the Brazilian CD at their website as import.PAUL Di’ANNO & DENNIS STRATTON album ”The Original Iron Men I” is in similar ‘volume II’ fashion – in fact, both albums are part of the same project – a great mix of melodic metal, hard rock, and edgy AOR.This project brought a unique approach putting together the two former members of Iron Maiden, and also featured the presence of big names such as Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Black Sabbath – Bass), Gary Ferguson (Hughes/Thrall – Drums), Nigel Glockler (Saxon, Asia – Drums), Fast Eddie Clarke (Fastway – Guitar), Paul Samson (Samson – Guitar), Don Airey (Deep Purple, Rainbow – Keyboards), Biff Byford (Saxon – Backing vocals), Kim McAuliffe (Girlschool – Backing vocals), Doogie White (Backing vocals), among others. This was a studio project glued by Lea Hart (Fastway), and not only Fast Freddie Clarke play here, also many songs were previously recorded by Fastway and the other Hart project / band; True Brits. The results are very good: two classic vocalists, top musicianship, very strong songs, and polished production.”The Original Iron Men I” is heavier, more hard rock oriented than Volume II, a couple of tracks even with a NWOBHM feeling. This Brazilian CD reissue isn’t remastered, but it’s nice to have and see ”The Original Iron Men I” available again after many years out of print.

Reputed reissue label No Remorse Records is releasing PAUL Di’ANNO & DENNIS STRATTON album ”The Original Iron Men II”, fully remastered and featured in exclusive here.Originally released in the mid-90s, there were two volumes, the first released 1995, and this one 1996. While the cover art looks pretty ridiculous (but fun!) the music packed inside is a great mix of melodic metal, hard rock, and edgy AOR.This project brought a unique approach to hard rock / metal brings puting together the two former members of Iron Maiden, and also featured the presence of big names in rock and heavy metal such as Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Black Sabbath – Bass), Gary Ferguson (Hughes/Thrall – Drums), Nigel Glockler (Saxon, Asia – Drums), Fast Eddie Clarke (Fastway – Guitar), Paul Samson (Samson – Guitar), Don Airey (Deep Purple, Rainbow – Keyboards), Biff Byford (Saxon – Backing vocals), Kim McAuliffe (Girlschool – Backing vocals), Doogie White (Backing vocals), among others. This was a studio project glued by Lea Hart (Fastway), and not only Fast Freddie Clarke play here, also many songs were previously recorded by Fastway and the other Hart project / band; True Brits. The results are very good. While there was – and still is – a controversy from Stratton’s side about this reissue (read below) ”The Original Iron Men II” is a great addition to your collection.Dennis Stratton has said a couple of months ago; ”Please don’t buy this album. Paul and myself did not record this album. No Remorse may not know this, but I’ve made it clear now, so they do now.Let’s make this clear so everyone understands. Back in the early ’90s I was running the cart and horses. Also I was a full time member of Praying Mantis. I was asked to go into the studio and record a bunch of songs as a solo project. Which I did.But without my knowledge the songs were put on this album and Paul’s voice was added. I did not know this was gonna happen until I saw the CD case at one of my shows. Over the past years whenever I’ve done live shows… meet and greets… and signings and I come across this album I always tell the person who owns it the same story. I’m not sure if this company who’s selling it knows the truth. But now everyone knows.”Well, Stratton is wrong.Way back when these albums were first initially released, the artists were apparently and supposedly kept in the dark about how these albums were going to marketed, how they were going to be presented or branded… each musician recorded their parts at different sessions not knowing the other was involved. And they were paid for the job. This happened a lot in the ’70s / ’80s and even until now: hired session musicians. The masters were owned by the producer of the project… who at the time (early 90s) made a deal with a now defunct label to publish these. When that label went out of business years later, the rights transferred over to a new label who had purchased the masters and catalog… you know who? Cherry Records UK.And thus Cherry Records rightfully and legally has a right to sub-license these to any other company at their discretion. In this case it is No Remorse Records who these have been licensed to… a label whom are certainly not to blame for the apparent decades old “sins” of the original producer or original owner of the recorded masters. No Remorse Records do great work and quality releases.Anyway, PAUL Di’ANNO & DENNIS STRATTON’s ”The Original Iron Men II” rocks, with great songs and fine performances, benefited by this new powerful remastering job.

Bio:
