Bio:

STATEMENT is a Heavy/Hard Rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark formed in 2011 and just this month will be releasing their debut album called “Monsters”. Danish melodic heavy rockers STATEMENT are back with their new album Dreams From The Darkest Side. Now, after having released the fourth single "Fade Away" of the album "Dreams From The Darkest Side" the album comes to life in gloomy dreams. With singles “The Reaper”, "Indestructible", album titletrack "Dreams From The Darkest Side" and "Fade Away", Statement shows their impressive evolution as songwriters and as a band.Statement hail from the dusty and dirty suburbs of Copenhagen, combining the raw power of several genres with their field-warrior melodic heavy rock and their assertive metal approach to form their own unique sound - a sound that straddles hard rock, heavy metal and softer elements from the world of pop. Formed in 2011, the band has focused since day one on writing ear-catching heavy rock that touches the very core of your soul. Statement released their debut album "Monsters" in 2014, followed by the second album "Heaven Will Burn" in 2016, and third album "Force of Life" in 2019, and is now coming with their fourth album "Dreams From The Darkest Side" in 2022.The inspiration comes from Scorpions, Metallica and Accept but also welcomes newer names such as Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, and Disturbed.

Album:

When thinking of Denmark, three things spring to mind; Viking hordes roaming across the country, Lurpak butter and most important of all…. Bacon! It truly does not get better than Danish bacon but let’s see how their music fares as well. With a desire to play classic hard rock, seasoned musicians Jannick Brochdorf and Niels Alex joined forces to create Statement. With Jannick on vocals and Niels ditching his proven trade on drums in favour of lead guitar. The line-up was completed with bassist Martin Poulsen, drummer Peter Thomsenand finally guitarist Jesper Steen Noachsen. The background of all five members is very diverse (from death metal to melodic rock) and this mix of styles delivers an interesting result in the shape of debut ‘Monsters’.With an intro track that evokes memories of Ennio Morricone and also a little piece of Metallica’s ‘One’, it builds quickly to a crescendo of guitars before launching into first and title song ‘Monsters’.The groove laid down along with the crunchy guitars suggest that this would be a great band to see live and should attract a good mix of fans mixing hard rock and metal in equal doses.Jannick’s vocals come across as a slightly more palatable Hetfield growl as he carries more melody and range than Metallica’s front man.Lyrically, the album touches upon (according to Jannick) a time in his life when drugs, drinking, depression and tough party nights in the city, were a major part of his life. This is borne out by the track ‘Crawling’ as you hear of a lonely, solitary figure who no longer knows who he is or where he stands in life anymore. It’s got great lyrical content and paints a great picture of a man who is desperate for ‘one more chance’.With the solid chug that drives ‘Keep You Alive’, the listener can almost see the band lined up on stage head banging alongside uniform guitar dips to the audience a la Scorpions. ‘Dropzone’ throws in the all too important air raid siren before Jannick borrows a few Hetfield “yeah, yeah, yeah”s to start the song proper. ‘Control’ dips into classic rock territory with so e great guitar work and a chorus that will bounce around your head long after the album has finished. The format continues with the rest of the album, solid rock and metal riffs with gravely vocals being belted out and then introduces a truly excellent ballad with ‘To Be A Man’. The first half of the track builds very slowly with much softer vocals proving the point made earlier about Jannick’s better voice and range. The guitar and rhythm work gradually builds to a crescendo some two and a half minutes in before finishing with some powerful riffs and pounding drums from Peter Thomson.‘Another Stage’ ramps up the energy levels again and throws in more of those “Yeah yeah, yeah’s” which sadly bring to mind the other band again rather than allowing me to focus on the quality performance from Statement.Overall, Statement are a talented outfit and whilst this may be their debut, it’s clear the experience gained from other bands over the years has helped deliver a solid rock / metal album. The quality guitar work from Niels Alex Larsen is crying out to be seen and heard live. The interplay between him and Jesper Steen Noachsen gives the songs real depth with rhythm and solos playing over and under each other and it’s in the live arena overall where I think this album will really shine.Definitely one for; any fan of Metallica, classic metal with a modern production and anyone that remembers standing legs apart in tight jeans head banging until your nose bleeds.

STATEMENT is a Hard Rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark formed in 2011 and just this month will be releasing their debut album called “Monsters”. Apparently experienced musicians from the Danish Metal scene joined forces for the fulfillment of this institution....with members coming together from a number of existing bands and brought together by their love of Classic Hard Rock: the likes of Scorpions, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Metallica. What we get is a wonderful album where you feel the band is letting off steam while creating some great heavy Hard Rock, with lyrics that centre around vocalist Jannick Brochdorf’s early life where “drugs, drinking, depressions and a tough party nights in the city, was a great part of his life” Musically ‘Monsters’ is immediate, and both grounded enough to please a Hard Rock audience and Heavy enough to entice Metalheads. Starting out with ‘Kill the Times/Monsters’ there’s a great groove, wonderful backline and some nice guitar, all laying the foundations for some great attitude-laden vocals. It’s tracks like ‘Say Hello’ where you really hear that love of the greats, simple guitars, great delivery, it’s a song that captures that feel that the best Hard Rock gives – the feeling of freedom and passion. The softer ‘Crawling’ takes the pace down to deliver a ballad of substance, while ‘Keep you Alive’ has a chugging riff that brings the Metal but retains the melody. ‘Dropzone’ too has a heavier dynamic and cool Metal riff while ‘Control’ relies more on a great harmony. This is a great album that never lets up, nor does it fail to impress, with each and every song worthy of inclusion. Like every album you’ll have your personal favourites and for us one of those is ‘Childhood Dreams’ which channels the attitude of bands like Skid Row via Metallica through a classic rock looking glass. The album ends strongly too: the slower ‘To Be a Man’ starts off slow, searching, reaching before the guitar busts into life just as you hoped it would. ‘Another Stage’ the fastest song here sees the world from the stage, with a bristling riff and injection of melody before possibly the strongest chorus here has you singing along and banging that head. ‘I Need to Know’ lessens the pace somewhat before the melancholy ‘Dad’ ends proceedings with the most emotional and personal song here. Statement is certainly a band to watch and have produced a fine debut. Definitely a band to watch.

Album:

Statement are a Danish band that have only been around for a few years. Their 2014 release Monsters garnered them significant attention throughout the European music scene. I am not sure why Statement haven’t hit the Sleaze Roxx radar in the past, but based on this new recording, it probably should have been worth a mention at least.Listening to the opening track “Playing Around” is really enjoyable. An aggressive hard rock song. Vocals are, at some points, a little guttural, but nothing that really detracts from the song itself. Next song “Madness” is pretty cool. I’m getting a biker rock vibe from what I’ve heard so far.Track three “Created By You” is very rock radio friendly and less challenging than the previous two. I guess every band needs a radio friendly song to get noticed. But now here’s where Heaven Will Burn gets a bit contradictory. “Darkest Hour” is much heavier and darker, with a bit of a Metallica vibe, but not in a good way. “Nightmare” recalls something akin to System Of A Down with its light-heavy-light impact combination.“Part Of Me” is back to a punk/sleaze feel, but in something like a Nickelback groove. Hard to explain, but it doesn’t work for me. I guess it’s not a bad rock song. And now to the album’s title track and first video “Heaven Will Burn.” This song as a composition has nothing legitimately to do with the rest of this record. It is a Foo Fighters knock off that is so far removed from most of the songs on the record that it stands out as unusual.“A New Beginning” would be a great start for half of Heaven Will Burn. Interesting metal riffs, but again, back to something of a formula. “A Fire Burns” is much harder than the rest of the record… sort of. It starts out as power metal, then regurgitates a now rote chorus. “Sleazy Fantasy” isn’t bad and it almost lives up to its name. Again, although pretty heavy and aggressive, it harkens back to the first couple of cuts on this album. The point is, individually, each of these songs may be a pretty decent add to a mix tape. However, as a single unit — a record — I find Heaven Will Burn to be disjointed and without focus. Below will be the link to the title track nut I urge you to look deeper before deciding to purchase.

Line-Up:

Jannick Brochdorf – lead vocals
Niels Alex Larsen – lead guitar, vocals
Jesper Steen Noachsen -guitar
Martin Poulsen – bass

Album:

In a few words, FORCE OF LIFE, represents an entire approach to a complete state of mind. Well, as a matter of fact, two different states of expression, one with the adventurous cover song they decided to remake, and another one with the rest of the album.Over many, many years, multiple bands have tried to pay homage to songs that touched them or inspired them along the way. What better way to do it than with a recorded version of that song on your own record? Even though some cover songs have been absolute disasters, others have been labeled even better than the original thing. It may not be easy for the band to make the ultimate decision to take this direction. But covering "California Dreaming" by The MAMAS AND PAPAS, and turning it into a Hard Rock anthem with a 21st century twist and a Danish approach should make any globaliphobic tremble with fear. It's a living testament of a band unwilling to please anyone but themselves and their musical commitment to create quality Hard, Melodic Rock second, while having fun doing it first. In my humble opinion the title track "Force Of Life" is the one song that best represents the band's most serious side. "Darkness in Your Eyes" with highly melodic verses and complex, entwined riffs highlights the more accomplished creations by these energetic rockers. The album bristles with an attitude and stamina that any top performance athlete would envy, as well as a structure with enough tempo variations to please most. STATEMENT have created an album that is both festive and intricate, and provides a ways of navigating through this galactic ride upon this blue planet. "Force Of Life" has as many tastes and opinions as drops in the sea. Its an album that will do anything but let you down. Most of all, it will accompany you for about an hour, intoxicating you with mirth from these Vikings with a Californian spirit. Kudos, and thanks for the experience!

Album:

”Dreams From The Darkest Side” is a heavy rock album that clearly expresses the band’s personality and unity. Based on the band’s recognizable cosmos, ”Dreams From The Darkest Side” carries Statement further into the facets of metal. An even higher range of flashy melodies and heavy metal elements characterise ”Dreams From The Darkest Side”, without the band giving up their iconic choruses and exuberant guitar solos in the span between rock, metal and emotional ballads. The lyrics are based on the band’s own depictions and experiences of life, with reference to the world we live in. Deeply personal tales of band members’ depression, demonic thoughts, the struggle to achieve dreams and the eternal search for love have brought Statement into the intensity and bias of fragility.Set in the black hole of thought, ”Dreams From The Darkest Side” contains many emotions that make the album the band’s most cohesive and personal album to date. In this spirit, the band delivers with ”Dreams From The Darkest Side” an ambitious, magnificent and intense craft - a true Statement!Statement hail from the dusty and dirty suburbs of Copenhagen, combining the raw power of several genres with their field-warrior melodic heavy rock and their assertive metal approach to form their own unique sound - a sound that straddles hard rock, heavy metal and softer elements from the world of pop.

Album:

For fans of Volbeat, Accept, Metallica With their fifth studio album, “Sinister Thing”, to be released via Mighty Music in May, Danish hard rock/metal band STATEMENT embarks on a darker and heavier musical journey while staying true to their signature melodic sound. This album represents a significant evolution for the band, striking a balance between their established identity and a newfound intensity that elevates their music to new heights.Creating “Sinister Thing” was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences for Statement. Determined to craft an album that felt distinct from their previous four releases, the band revisited their entire discography - not for inspiration, but to reflect on their musical growth and evolution. This introspection helped them refine their direction, ensuring the album maintained the essence of Statement while incorporating fresh, powerful elements.Musically, the album started in drop D tuning before transitioning to drop C, allowing for a darker and heavier sonic landscape. To fully immerse themselves in the creative process, Statement took a week-long retreat, dedicating themselves entirely to songwriting. This intensive period resulted in tracks like “The Hive”, “Raised in Hell”, “The Right Kind of Love”, and “My Last Goodbye”. The experience not only strengthened their artistic vision but also reinforced their bond as a band.Lyrically, “Sinister Thing” is deeply personal, drawing inspiration from real-life experiences, opinions, and stories shared by friends and family. Each track underwent multiple rewrites to ensure the perfect balance of emotion, melody, and heaviness, leading to some difficult but necessary creative decisions. To achieve the album’s bold new sound, Statement collaborated with renowned producer Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studio. Having previously worked with Madsen on their first two albums, the band knew he was the ideal choice to bring their heavier vision to life. His expertise helped shape “Sinister Thing” into a record that maintains Statement’s melodic foundations while embracing a more intense metal influence. With “Sinister Thing”, the Danish collective pushes their musical boundaries, offering fans an album that is both familiar and refreshingly bold. The combination of powerful riffs, emotionally charged lyrics, and a darker, heavier atmosphere ensures that this release will captivate listeners and solidify Statement’s position in the hard rock and metal scene.“Sinister Thing” will be released on LP (black vinyl limited to 200 copies and transparent red vinyl limited to 100 copies), CD and digital on 09.05.2025, via Mighty Music.
