The Storyteller is now back with a brand new album named "Sacred Fire".

It only took eight years, but finally The Storyteller has emerged from hiatus. Seemingly underrated and under-appreciated in both power metal circles, and the metal community as a whole, it will interesting to see how well-received the new album ultimately is. I, for one, couldn't be more pleased.Picking up right where "The Underworld" left off, "Dark Legacy" is late 90s/early 00s power metal in its purest form. Think mid-period Wizard and "Somewhere Far Beyond"-era Blind Guardian, and you're on the right track. The Storyteller's brand of power metal has always landed on the heavier/grittier end of the spectrum, and this album is no exception.Much of "Dark Legacy" follows the template of speedy, crunchy, double-bass driven power metal, which is executed almost flawlessly on tracks such as "Strength Of Valhalla", "Forever Thou Shall Kneel" and "Upon The Icy Throne". However, variety can be found. "Uninvited Guest" is led by a more modern riff and overall approach, "God Of Gods" is mid-paced and slightly reminiscent of Dio, and "Sands Of Time" is an orchestral ballad leading up to the epic closer, "Battle Of Yggdrasil".Vocalist L-G Persson returns in fine form with his somewhat throaty and unique delivery, stamping his signature all over the album. His voice has always been the stand-out feature of The Storyteller, and it's great to him on record once again.Fans of The Storyteller should rejoice over "Dark Legacy", while Power Metal fans that missed these guys the first time around have some catching up to do. Along with Dreamtale and Drakkar, these guys are doing an admiral job of keeping the old spirit alive.

When you hear the name THE STORYTELLER – you become curious and full of expectations. It’s that kind of name that obligates and demands a lot from the bearer.The opening track “As I Die” has a powerful guitar intro, followed by L-G Persson’s amazing voice. On a totally different note, “One Last Stand” is more technical, filled with the highly known ‘must-do-in-a-power-band’ guitar riffs and solos. The song that gave the name of the album, “Sacred Fire” is not as ‘in-you-face’ as you would expect. It has a strong ballad feeling at the beginning, followed by rapid crescendo guitars. Voice alternations are present as well (the high pitched vocals part is simply amazing) followed by a catchy refrain – probably the reason the band chose this song to name the album after.On a more serious level, “Ferryman” is a compelling well-made ballad, telling the story of a ‘gone man’ in the land of the dead. With “In Search for Treasures, Stones and Gold” we deal with a very interesting mix of power metal riffs with a ‘medieval-folkish’ sound coming from the chorus. Nonetheless, a solid track that got to me extremely quick.A very sad ballad “Coming Home” makes me think of Ozzy’s “Mama I’m Coming Home”; don’t get me wrong, the songs are nothing like each other, except the theme that stood behind it. The last track “God Of War” is a fitting ending for the album, characterized by dominant solos, convincing voice and a lusty tale.The fairytale that THE STORYTELLER started to tell fifteen years ago seems to be a never-ending story. Even though there are no innovations in the genre, it’s a strong album that it’s worthy of your time.To sum it up, “Sacred Fire” is a good continuation for a band that has been on the market for so long. A good rhythm an addictive tempo and a powerful voice, are the 3 most powerful strengths.

Swedish power metal force The Storyteller returns with their long-awaited seventh full-length album, The Final Stand, set for release on 25 April 2025 via The Circle Music.
