Bio:

Heavy Meatl band formed in 1999.Twenty years is a long time, especially in the music industry. Some bands manage to record one or the other long groove during this time and stay live, otherwise you run the risk of falling into oblivion. In the case of HEADLESS BEAST, the guys have just released an EP (2004) and an album (2011) in two decades, so it's not surprising that I thought the band was newcomer at first.Anyway, the new disc "Phantom Fury" is walking the paths of German stainless steel, spiced up with some NWOBHM bonds and some dangling tendons towards Hard Rock. In terms of content,"Phantom Fury" deals with manipulation, delusion, excess, social descent, the radicalization of society and the decline of values. However, if you expect a correspondingly gloomy album with down-tuned guitars and heavy riffs, that's mostly wrong.

Album:

One does not expect anyone else to remember HEADLESS BEAST's eight-year-old debut "Forced To Kill", but nonetheless, the group vowed at the time has finally come along in a way that definitely does not disgrace them and perhaps even delayed a professional career can compete ... so because the priorities (concerts, concerts) are set correctly or can be set in view of the "bourgeois" lives of the members.Either way, "Phantom Fury" is a cool thing that fits wonderfully into the current metal business. HEADLESS BEAST have not repackaged and now benefit from a well-rehearsed constellation of people that seems to have internalized traditional stainless steel along with its history. At the same time, the Ulm artists are fresh and serene, while in the studio (again produced Vagelis Maranis) and in terms of visual design (once again the band mascot of Markus Vesper is depicted as a real painting instead of Photoshop collage on the cover) Konstanz was preserved. The introductory title track, a fast-paced North American genre textbook sweeper, and later 'Suicide Solution' are smash hits before the proverbial gentleman, facing the gritty nasty 'The Darkness' and the sluggish groove finale 'Pray For Nothing' dynamic Set contrasts. Rather rocky tracks, such as 'Used To The Evil' and 'To The Grave' alongside 'Feed The Beast', prove the band's potential to write hypothetical genre hits; that would just have to recognize an attractive label, which HEADLESS BEAST could cheer on the masses, because in and of itself a lot of people thirst for such stuff, what you - and hereby once more impressively proved - not necessarily look abroad. There is nothing headless here, and the blue and yellow signal colors of the Swabians do not suggest that the listener should better seek his salvation in Sweden.CONCLUSION: 20 years after their founding, HEADLESS BEAST are in full swing with their second long-player. Guitarist Ingo Neuber as musical strip-puller and frontman Jogi Witzler together with their powerful rhythm section are a winning team that celebrates the flexible, passionate Power Metal as it was originally meant to be. Let yourself be carried away by this fable work from the German underground, where even one or the other international "greatness" should stay away from the air.
