Founded in Munich in 1984 by frontman Bill Itch, the band THE ROXX, which had a different line-up between 1995 and 2006 and was then re-established, has several albums and other recording formats (analogue and digital) as well as a video recording to its name. They also have plenty of stage experience. Their influences lie primarily in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWoBHM). Thrash and prog metal play supporting roles. In addition, the band was and is open to other styles and sub-styles, however unusual or perhaps even inappropriate they may be in combination with hard, metallic sounds. For example, they worked with a rapper and even teamed up with the well-known Bavarian Dixieland combo HOT DOGS for recordings, banjo and clarinet included. The boys also played strings and other samples, synthesisers and exotic instruments.The album Watch Us Cum was released by Intercord in 1988. Watch Us Cum was released in further versions as a bootleg, including from Russia, under the titles Molton Metal and Get It Hot. Due to the vocal proximity, the Russian bootleg was offered as an unreleased solo album by Rob Halford (Judas Priest).In 1988, guitarist Hermann Janowitz (formerly with the band Railway) died during the recording of the album Chills Down Your Spine, which subsequently remained unreleased. In 1990, the double album Sex & Roxx & Rock ‘n’ Roll was released. The single Wild Thing (a cover version of the Troggs' song) was released as a vinyl maxi packaged in a pizza box.The album No Sole Messiah was released in 1992. On the song The Way to Babylon, The Roxx was accompanied by the Munich Dixieland band Hot Dogs. The live album Wild Things Live was released in 1994. The Roxx disbanded in 1995 during the recording of the planned album Dominator. Dominator was only released as a bootleg.Bill Itch reassembled The Roxx in 2006. The EP Trigger/RIP was released. 2007 saw the release of the album Unleash Your Demon. The Roxx also played concerts in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Switzerland in 2008. 2008 saw the release of the live DVD The Roxx Unleash The Demon and the double CD History Decade One 1984-1994. 2009 saw The Roxx release the album Ironic Truth. The album To Heaven With Hell was released on 1 March 2013.

Let's see if the new album ‘To Heaven With Hell’ is also good for a surprise or two.Once again, the aforementioned metal genres set the course for the journey. There are also set pieces from hard rock, rock'n'roll and doom metal, embellished with a few country-esque banjo tones, the occasional synthesiser and various samples.The tracks mostly come out of the speakers very quickly. They are occasionally slowed down by quieter/calmer and slower/slower passages. Everything is dominated and held together by the distinctive melodies. The lyrics are not without a certain irony or pithiness, at least in places.THE ROXX are fully fit both instrumentally and vocally. The riffs cut, the guitars crash against the wall, the bass pumps and the drums bang. The vocals, whether solo or in a choir, are remarkably haunting. Nothing here sounds dusty or outdated, but often traditional, yet fresh and contemporary. The fitting production does the rest.‘To Heaven With Hell’ is a lush metal disc that knows how to surprise at times.
