Bio:

Shinedown is an American hard rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by members Brent Smith (vocals), Brad Stewart (bass), Jasin Todd (guitar), and Barry Kerch (drums). A few lineup changes followed, and the band's current lineup consists of Smith and Kerch, the band's only two remaining original members, with guitarist Zach Myers, and bassist/pianist Eric Bass. Since Shinedown's inception, they have released five albums: Leave a Whisper (2003), Us and Them (2005), The Sound of Madness (2008), Amaryllis (2012), and Threat to Survival (2015). They have sold over 6 million albums worldwide.Leave a Whisper was the band's debut album, released July 5, 2003, then an enhanced version on June 15, 2004. It featured tracks such as "Fly from the Inside", "Burning Bright", "45" and a cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Simple Man".In 2005, the band released a live DVD of the majority of the album entitled Live from the Inside which also contained a documentary. The recording featured the final concert of the "Leave a Whisper" touring schedule. After the successful Leave a Whisper and accompanying tour, the band went back into the studio in 2005 to record their second album. On October 4, 2005, the band released Us and Them, which went on to produce three singles; "Save Me", "I Dare You", and "Heroes". The lead single, "Save Me", maintained the No.1 position of the Active Rock Charts for twelve weeks straight, setting a record for the band. The two other singles had similar success - "I Dare You" was notably performed on American Idol by Chris Daughtry and was the secondary theme song for the WWE flagship pay-per-view Wrestlemania 22. Us and Them was certified gold by the RIAA on November 13, 2006.The album has three versions for release; the regular thirteen-track version, a limited edition with three bonus acoustic tracks, and a store-specific version with two bonus tracks: "Break" and "Carried Away". After the album's release the band took part in 2006's SnoCore Tour with Seether, Flyleaf, and Halestorm. After that the band joined Trapt for the Equinox Tour. The band then played their first overseas concert at the London Astoria on June 6, 2006, supporting Alter Bridge. In the summer of 2006, the band then opened for Godsmack and Rob Zombie on their tour of North America, effectively ending their touring schedule. The band began recording their third album, The Sound of Madness, in Los Angeles on September 20, 2007. It was released on June 24, 2008. A deluxe edition was released as well including three extra tracks, digitally. Their first single, "Devour", was released on May 6, 2008, and was their second No. 1 on the active rock chart."Devour" was also the theme song for the WWE pay-per-view Night of Champions 2008, as well as part of the soundtrack to the 2009 film, The Final Destination. It can also be found on the soundtrack from Madden NFL 09. The video for the song was released on June 25, 2008. "Sound of Madness" was also used as a song for WWE Wrestlemania 25 review aired on NBC on August 30, 2009 for the Shawn Michaels/The Undertaker match."Second Chance", the second single off The Sound of Madness, is Shinedown's biggest hit to date, being their first top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100. The song reached number 1 during its duration on the chart for three consecutive weeks. "Second Chance" has since gone double platinum.Ironically for the song "that broke into everything", it was one the band hated when they first wrote it.On April 11, 2008, lead singer Brent Smith announced that Jasin Todd was no longer a member of the band, saying "at this time, he's no longer with us in Shinedown." In the liner notes of The Sound of Madness, Smith says that he loves Todd and considers him the "brother [he] never had". Since parting ways with Shinedown, Todd has remained out of the public eye. Although rumors briefly surfaced that he had joined Soil (the band promptly denied this),he eventually became the guitarist for the rock band Fuel.Shinedown re-released their albums, Leave a Whisper and Us and Them as deluxe editions on July 7, 2009. The albums are only available digitally. Between the two albums, the band released 25 unreleased tracks, seven of which were never heard before. On February 21, 2011, via video chat on Shinedown's official website, the band announced the name of the new live DVD would be Somewhere in the Stratosphere. On March 8, it was announced that the album, a double CD/DVD, would be released on May 3 and include footage from the Carnival of Madness and Anything and Everything tours, as well as backstage footage, interviews, and other material.Somewhere in the Stratosphere was released on May 3, 2011.In March 2011, guitarist Zach Myers stated that the band was working on their fourth studio album. While attending the 59th annual BMI Pop Awards on May 17, Brent Smith was asked if the new album was similar to that on 2008′s platinum-certified album The Sound of Madness. Smith responded back, “Not really, because we can’t compare any of the other records to this one - just like we can’t compare the first one to the second one or the third one to the first one,” he said. “We pride ourselves on being a band that each record sounds completely different than the last. The beautiful thing is the journey and finding out where you are in your life, not only as a person, but where you are as an artist and as a musician and how far you’ve come and how far you’ve grown. So, for us, we tour a lot — our last record, we toured for almost three years - so it’s very, very crucial and very, very important for us for this fourth record [to be as strong as possible], so we take our time.” On August 16, 2011, it was announced that Shinedown had begun recording new material at Ocean Way Recording with producer Rob Cavallo, who had previously worked with the band on The Sound of Madness. On December 15, it was announced that Shinedown planned to release their first single of their new album, "Bully", on January 3, 2012.On January 3, 2012, in conjunction with their new single "Bully" being released, the band announced that the new album will be entitled Amaryllis and would be released March 27, 2012, with pre-orders available on January 17.The following day, it was confirmed that the band has secured a deal with Roadrunner records to release the album in every territory besides the US where they are still signed to Atlantic.Shinedown also contributed the song titled "I'm Alive" to the soundtrack of the film The Avengers, which was released May 1, 2012.The band released a music video for their third single from Amaryllis, "Enemies", on July 17, 2012.On June 29, 2015, the band released a new single, titled "Cut the Cord."On August 7, 2015, they announced their fifth album would be titled Threat to Survival, and was released on September 18, 2015.Two additional songs were made available digitally ahead of the album's release "Black Cadillac" on August 14 and "State of My Head" on August 27.

Album:

Threat to Survival is the fifth studio album by American rock band Shinedown. It was announced on August 7, 2015 that the album would be released on September 18, 2015.On June 29, 2015 the band released the first single "Cut the Cord". The tenth track "Black Cadillac" was released to YouTube for streaming and as a digital single on August 14, 2015.The multi-platinum band, Shinedown, has released its fifth album. Fans have been anticipating this moment since their last album, Amaryllis (2012), and cannot wait to hear the new tracks they have been working so hard on. Shinedown has had major success with their past albums: Leave a Whisper (2003), The Sound of Madness (2008) and Amaryllis (2012). The Sound of Madness is one of their best-selling albums, including popular songs “Second Chance”, “The Crow and The Butterfly” and “ Sound Of Madness”. Their newest lead single “Cut The Chord” from the upcoming album Threat To Survival has already claimed its spot at No.1 on the rock singles chart in active rock radio. It is no surprise that Brent Smith’s powerful vocals give Shinedown their distinctive sound. Threat To Survival samples various music styles in each of its 11 songs, making it yet another unique masterpiece by Shinedown. While fluctuating between strong melodies of hard and pop forms of rock music, this album is sure to satisfy any music lover along the genre. The first song on the album, “Asking For It”, displays the original Shinedown style while also introducing the new vibe of the band; although this new side is predominantly shown in their other tracks “How Did You Love”, “Misfits” and “Black Cadillac” of the same album. There’s no doubt fans will be satisfied with the lyrics, as they provide a relatable connection to the lives of many.Threat To Survival proves that Shinedown still have a lot to offer and continue to bring to the table. Releasing this album three years after their last one, with even more success following it than anticipated, has fans thrilled for what the future holds for Shinedown. Album:

Attention Attention is the sixth studio album by American rock band Shinedown. It is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018. It is a concept album, dealing with depicting a human overcoming their negativity through personal struggles to be reborn as a new person. The first single, "Devil", was released on March 7, 2018.At one time it felt as if Shinedown exploded on to your screen and into your headphones overnight, sky rocketing from rising stars to one of the most popular front-runners of contemporary rock since their formation in 2001. Now, with a catalogue of hook-laden songs filled with choruses built for arenas, there is little surprise as to why the masses continue to gravitate toward the Jacksonville, Florida rockers, and it is hard to imagine the scene without them.Acting as the direct successor to the hugely successful ‘Threat to Survival’, ‘Attention Attention’ takes its place as the sixth studio album from the band, cited as their most raw and personal offering to date. Yet if it wears its heart on its sleeve in places, there is little evidence to support the claim to rawness, especially when you consider their immensely powerful back catalogue. If leading single “Devil” sets the stage for all that is to come, it delivers a self consciously grand, dramatic, and theatrical offering, not exactly in the cherished styling of Shinedown. In fact, much of the bands beloved, distinctive sound feels lost in a vast well of production on ‘Attention Attention’ . Which comes as ironic given that the task of retaining a producer was kept in-house, with the role being filled by bassist Eric Bass. The most blatant example of this can be found in “Get Up”. While it may provide an admirable, encouraging lyric that caters to the struggles of depression, ultimately it sounds a great deal closer to an edgy Take That dealing in innocuous pop rock than it does to Shinedown. As does its immediate follow up, the rather painfully melancholy “special,” which curiously includes a rather limp, golf clap during its final moments. Which is about as much of an applause as it warrants.Yet if ‘Attention Attention’ doesn’t always hit the mark, it certainly hits the target on more than a few occasions. “Monsters” acknowledges the very real demons dwelling within, with singer Brent Smith delivering a strong vocal performance against a backdrop of raw, post-grunge guitars provided by Zach Myers. Another highlight can be found in “Black Soul” which builds on a simple, industrial synth hook and blossoms into a booming track.Yet the level of polishing is uncanny, and not always effective. For even when it is loud and dirty, striving to be raw, it still feels squeaky clean, a point reflected in the sonic buffet that is “Pyro”.Shinedown can be brave and bold adventurers, demonstrating little fear as they extend their reach and expand their scope. Something their catalogue attests to, a testament to their well and truly reaping the fruits of immense labours. But those fruits had roots, roots that, unfortunately, feel somewhat lost in their more recent work, and never more so than in ‘Attention Attention’.Yet ‘Attention Attention’ is still a hopeful, buoyant, and optimistic record that finds the white in the black, the light in the dark, the positive in the negative. It shows that Shinedown have not lost their charm, even if they may have parted ways with a great deal of their edge and grit for a more accessible, poppy sound.

Album:

“All hail, power to the people / Except you, you check the box we don’t like,” is a lyric that perfectly encapsulates the message of Floridian rock band SHINEDOWN on their latest album, Planet Zero. The quartet’s seventh full-length release, and second to be produced and mixed by the band’s bassist Eric Bass, is a concept record centred on the sorry excuse of the past two years.Peppered with futuristic and spacey intervals a lá Black Mirror, opening monologue 2184 begins with bright and major synths, raising an initially suspicious eyebrow. Whilst these neat intervals help to tie the record together in a coherent timeline, more often than not they feel forced. Barry Kerch’s rolling snare drum into No Sleep Tonight kicks off a pre-riot battle cry. Zach Myer’s clean and undistorted guitar solo slips in and out of good-cop/bad-cop mode amidst Bass‘ bass lines. Offset with distortion and vocalist Brent Smith’s signature call-to-arms voice, title track Planet Zero references the 2020 murder of George Floyd with the lyric “bite your tongue because it might save your life.” A countdown on the doomsday clock ticks into the track’s breakdown, aptly making it the heaviest track on the record. The futuristic intervals masquerade behind the concept of an idyllic utopian civilisation, stating “during your time here, please do not think critically as this can be problematic,” ensuring everyone is exactly the same and everybody colours inside the lines. As an ex-addict and ambassador for sobriety, the lyrics in Dysfunctional You, A Symptom Of Being Human, and Hope, all explore the narrative of self-acceptance and coming to terms with your demons. Whilst there’s nothing hugely flashy about the instrumental elements on these tracks, they instead raise a platform for the real gem: Smith’s lyric writing. All of the physical and mental health issues we face are what makes us unique and sets us apart from one another, yet are also equally responsible for bringing us closer together. Set against a backdrop of an acoustic guitar and simplistic melodies, full focus is on the lyrics; “Suicide suicide, 123 / Maybe these drugs are addicted to me?”, “Afternoon tea with the impending doom”, and “Keep your dyslexia next to your imaginary friends / They all talk shit about the shape I’m in.” Dead Don’t Die is perhaps the closest track old school fans will get to Sound Of Madness-era SHINEDOWN, featuring heavier riffs and more blazing guitar solos than previous record Attention Attention. America Burning, Clueless And Dramatic, and The Saints Of Violence And Innuendo focus on the subject matter of America tearing itself apart, a concept that can now be slapped upon other countries not-so-far from home. The carnivalesque banjo riff in America Burning, coupled with the chorus lyric “who doesn’t love a parade with gasoline and grenades?”, conjures up images of Batman’s The Joker wreaking havoc and revelling in archaic rebellion.Bright and buoyant vocal gang harmonies bring a sense of respite in the track Daylight. “So here we are, we’re dressed to kill / Where shall we go?” was a question that played on everyone’s mind when lockdown lifted, and the reprisal aura is akin to an emotional Disney finale track. It feels disjointed then, to end with What You Wanted. The anticlimactic marching band track ends on an incomplete note, like a flame flickering out as the embers fade, leaving a sense of emptiness. For those who were disheartened by Attention Attention, Plant Zero returns with a welcomed vengeance. Whilst a few tracks fall short, SHINEDOWN revert back to full-form whilst still experimenting and evolving their sound in a manner that will keep fans happy as well as themselves.
