Bio:

Trivium are an American heavy metal band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 1999. After getting signed to Roadrunner Records in 2004, the band has released six studio albums and nineteen singles. Their latest album, Silence in the Snow, was released on October 2, 2015. The band has sold over one million albums worldwide. The band formed in 1999. At his Lake Brantley High School talent show, Matt Heafy performed a cover version of "No Leaf Clover" by Metallica.Singer Brad Lewter noticed Heafy and asked him to try out for his band. The pair went over to drummer Travis Smith's house where they played a rendition of Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Impressed with Heafy's performance, they accepted him into the band known as "Trivium", which is a Latin three-way intersection they used to explain their music as combining metalcore, melodic death metal and thrash metal. After several shows at bars and local clubs,Lewter quit the band and Heafy took over his position as vocalist. In early 2003, Trivium went into the recording studio to record its first high-quality demo disc.A copy of the demo was heard by German label Lifeforce which signed Trivium, and the band entered a studio to record its debut album, Ember to Inferno.Corey Beaulieu joined after the recording of the album. In 2004, Paolo Gregoletto joined as the band's bassist, replacing Brent Young, before a tour with Machine Head. The album Ember to Inferno managed to garner the interest of Roadrunner Records representatives, who later signed Trivium to the label. The band then began writing songs for their major label debut. In 2004, Trivium recorded its second album, Ascendancy, in Audiohammer Studios and Morrisound Recording in Florida.Produced by Heafy and Jason Suecof, the album was released in March 2005. The album debuted at No. 151 on the Billboard 200 and at No. 4 on the Top Heatseekers chart.Allmusic reviewer Johnny Loftus stated on Ascendancy, Trivium are a "ridiculously tight quartet, unleashing thrilling dual guitar passages and pummeling kick drum gallops as surely as they do melodic breaks and vicious throat screams."and Rod Smith of Decibel magazine praised "Smith’s impeccably articulated beats, bassist Paolo Gregoletto’s contained thunder, and, especially, Heafy and guitarist Corey Beaulieu’s liquid twin leads."The album was also recognized as the "Album of the Year" by Kerrang! magazine. Later in 2007 the band received their first Gold Record in the UK for more than 100,000 Sales."Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr" from Ascendancy, 2005.Problems playing this file? See media help.In 2005, Trivium played the first Saturday set on the main stage at Download Festival in Castle Donington, England, credited by Matt Heafy as the gig that really launched Trivium on the world stage. Singles and music videos were released for "Like Light to the Flies", "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr", "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation", and "Dying in Your Arms". The videos for these songs gained rotation on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and "Pull Harder on The Strings of Your Martyr" has become one of the band's most well known songs and is the song that they usually close their sets with.In support of the album, Trivium played on numerous tours with well-known artists. The band opened for Killswitch Engage, Iced Earth, Fear Factory, and Machine Head, who were one of Heafy's largest influences.Trivium played at Road Rage 2005, Ozzfest, and made an appearance at the Download Festival.Ascendancy was re-released in 2006 with four bonus tracks and a DVD containing all of the band's music videos and live footage. In fall of 2014, guitarist Corey Beaulieu announced that the band will be working on the follow-up of Vengeance Falls in 2015, and that he hopes that the album will be released in Fall of the same year.Their song 'Strife' will be appearing in the upcoming video game Guitar Hero: Live.On July 17, 2015, the band launched a website "snow.trivium.org" teasing the new album. They also changed their Facebook profile to the same picture as on the website, hinting at the release of the new album. On July 24, the band posted a six day countdown on their website.[50] An unofficial picture surfaced online on July 29, suggesting the new album title to be Silence in the Snow and revealing three new featured songs: "Silence in the Snow", "Dead and Gone" and "Until the World Goes Cold". This picture also suggested the release date October 2, 2015.This information was confirmed on July 30 when the band premiered the music video for the title track once the countdown ended. On July 31, 2015, the band revealed the track list and the album artwork, and Silence in the Snow was made available for pre-order.On August 7, the band premiered two new songs, "Silence in the Snow" and "Blind Leading the Blind" on their performance on Bloodstock Open Air.On August 27 Trivium premiered the music video for their third single "Until the World Goes Cold".

Album:

Vengeance Falls is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Trivium. It was released October 10, 2013, in Japan,October 14, 2013, in UK, and October 15, 2013, in US through Roadrunner Records and was produced by David Draiman, the lead vocalist of the band Disturbed. It is the second and last album to feature drummer Nick Augusto before his departure from the band in May 2014.In January 2013, bassist Paolo Gregoletto posted photos of the band working on their next studio release. It was later confirmed via Gregoletto's Facebook that Draiman would in fact be the producer. In an interview with Thrash Hits, David Draiman revealed that the album's title was Vengeance Falls. Matt Heafy in particular was satisfied with Draiman's work on the album, calling him the "most hands-on producer" they've ever worked with. Vengeance Falls became available for pre-order at their official website on August 20. The first single was available as an instant download with all pre-orders. This is also the band's first album not to feature any kind of unclean vocals at all. "Blind Leading the Blind" was later released as a single on YouTube August 13, 2015. Heafy, Beaulieu and Gregoletto were also participating in the radio program, breaking down the songs and commenting on the songwriting process.Guitarist Corey Beaulieu cites Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio as the main influences, as well as touring experience with Heaven & Hell back in 2007. He said the title song was written during Shogun sessions but was eventually cut from the final release, as the band thought it did not fit "Shogun's sound."During the album's making, vocalist Matt Heafy has worked with vocal coach Ron Anderson, in order to improve his voice which he blew in 2014. Album:

It brings me great pleasure to say that Trivium, first of all, are soon to have eight records. As a hardcore fan of ten years, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a band both remain exactly who they were from the start and change so dramatically over time. As a matter of fact, I can’t mention many bands whatsoever that have struck that perfect balance. And as we stand here at the crossroads of the eighth chapter, a certain anticipation and, honestly, a nervousness slips into the mind. I possess a great amount of respect for Trivium for being able to do exactly what they want to do as musicians while keeping their rabid fan militia in mind. And it’s crystal fucking clear that on ‘The Sin And The Sentence‘ that exactly what they wanted to do is dominate and hard. It’s not that this task seems like it took all that much effort from my favourite Florida boys either; It’s more like it took some studying as to who EXACTLY Trivium are. And this record, better than anything they’ve released since ‘Ascendancy’, displays exactly who they are: An intelligent melodic, aggressive, even progressive, metal beast. They really are taking our fucking heads this time.A layer of polish and tight focus grips this record by the throat, pun regarding the opening title track totally intended. I have never heard something more triumphant than the soaring opening riff, exactly what I would consider the closest to fanfare a musician can get without using a single trumpet. Already in track number one, the groundwork for the remainder is laid perfectly: The rowdiness of aggro Trivium combined with the pinpoint control and tidiness of their more recent records with a newfound love for creating atmosphere. The one thing any metal listener will notice immediately though, is that Trivium aren’t ones to bring even one generic moment or riff to mind. They’re not content with creating a song that goes nowhere and this song has quite a few movements. And while it’s not another ‘Shogun’, the observant fan will note that that band’s progressive songwriting elements are in full swing throughout this record nine times out of eleven.Throughout ‘T.S.A.T.S’, the name of the game is hooks and lots of ’em. All the hooks ever — Vocal, guitar, drum, even bass. And these songs are guaranteed to get trapped in the noggin. Big parts abound and these Florida 4 are willing to cleverly place any element that will get a crowd singing louder, even gang shouts surprisingly. There isn’t a song on here that doesn’t stick like glue. The fact that the longer the song, the more memorable parts it contains is a factual aspect of this record is testament to how adept Trivium are at crafting their material. This album’s longest cut, “The Revanchist” is a groovy, ominous strafe with an unexpectedly anthemic chorus about nihilism. Yay! But wait kids, there’s more.Despite all its melody, ‘The Sin And The Sentence’ is quite possibly Trivium‘s darkest material. From “Beyond Oblivion‘s doom-inviting sludgy hook, “Other World‘s cosmic Euro-New Wave of British Heavy Metal dreamscape and “The Wretchedness Inside‘s playful Slipknot-derived manic, many moments heard here are subtle experiments to add to Trivium’s already expansive playbook. In addition to frontman/rhythm guitarist Matt Heafy expressing anger, fear and contempt about the increasingly chaotic world around him and a focus on religious symbolism, there are even desperate, depressive moments heard in the forms of relatable rock anthem “The Heart From Your Hate” and Stone Sour-esque “Endless Night” which doubles as the first Trivium song to remind me of ‘The Crusade’ album since, well, ‘The Crusade’ album. And despite the record’s balance, it is absolutely chock full of surprises — Bewildering rhythm transitions and brutal moments galore. To answer much uncertainty, this record is a nearly perfect 50/50 on screaming and singing. Particularly of note, is one Matt Heafy who sounds positively rejuvenated here. He experiments with wider range and a diverse selection of cadences to really bring out his potential. And when he growls, it’s as if he never lost the ability to do so. The man attacks and serenades like only he can and he is a metal signature because of it. This record proves exactly why.My favourite moments on the album are nothing short of epic. “Betrayer” reminded me of ‘Ascendancy”s thrashy brutality in the best way, but with singing sections that rival the gargantuan excellence of Silence In The Snow’s towering approach to songwriting. “Beauty In The Sorrow” faked me out with a Nirvana-inspired grungy clean intro before exploding into a tremolo-double bass section that would make the entire country of Sweden blush and it was wonderful. Thank you, Alex Bent. Speaking of, Trivium could not possibly have found a better fit for their band of merry extreme men than this gentlemen, henceforth known as Alex “First take like a motherfucker” Bent. Even when playing in a pocket format on this record, such as in “The Heart From Your Hate“, he shines through as a powerhouse and when given the chance to blast away, such as the intro to “Beyond Oblivion” (!!!), he truly feels like the ideal mixture of Travis Smith’s arena showmanship and Nick Augusto‘s powerful technicality. He is the chosen one, obviously. The most important aspect of Trivium‘s sound has always been the dual guitar interplay and I don’t believe it has ever been better than it is today. It would seem that the more Matt Heafy and lead guitar/shred master Corey Beaulieu have played and written together, their chemistry has only improved. The influences on this record are staggering, but my jaw legitimately dropped at the The Punishment Due transition reference heard mid “Beyond Oblivion”and the blistering solo that followed. The solos heard on this record are all just entirely too brilliant to talk about individually, but brace yourself for “The Wretchedness Inside‘s. Wow. And I can’t neglect Paolo‘s fourth bass solo ever at the beginning of album finale, “Thrown Into The Fire“. Much labour went into making his bass sound the most reasonably audible it ever has without the clang heard on ‘Vengeance Falls’. I think the extraordinary melodic death metal riffs that come standard with a Trivium record though stand out as more substantially utilised than ever before here and especially in “Betrayer“. The uplifting melodies in the bridge were never expected. Keep your ears on that guitar tone too. Fuller than ever. Working with Josh Wilbur paid dividends.I could gush about individual performances on this record for hours, but most importantly, Trivium are heard here as a cohesive unit who have learned and utilised a tool from each record they’ve ever done on this one record. It is staggering and incredible, truly a listen their fans will never tire of. Trivium have really gotten it right this time, delivering unique, consistently high-quality metal anthems with virtually no exceptions allowed in. No matter why you love this band, you will find something to fall for here. Clearly, Trivium have a long life left to live. ‘The Sin And The Sentence’ is prime fan-favorite Trivium and nothing less than a well-rounded, addictive and exceptionally creative metal record.

4 on the Top Heatseekers chart.Allmusic reviewer Johnny Loftus stated on Ascendancy, Trivium are a "ridiculously tight quartet, unleashing thrilling dual guitar passages and pummeling kick drum gallops as surely as they do melodic breaks and vicious throat screams."and Rod Smith of Decibel magazine praised "Smith’s impeccably articulated beats, bassist Paolo Gregoletto’s contained thunder, and, especially, Heafy and guitarist Corey Beaulieu’s liquid twin leads."The album was also recognized as the "Album of the Year" by Kerrang! magazine. Album:

What the Dead Men Say is the ninth studio album by American band Trivium. It was released on April 24, 2020 through Roadrunner Records and was produced by Josh Wilbur.Trivium has always been a band that has strived to achieve greatness. From humble beginnings which I am sure we can all remember, the band has single-handedly shattered all the preconceived notions that were placed upon them and has slowly become one of the big bands of this generation. After embracing a minor musical renaissance over the past decade, the band has found great success through their past few releases, which has ultimately culminated in their most recent album, the critically acclaimed The Sin and the Sentence. Creating a follow-up to any massively successful album is a very daunting task, but is also one which Trivium has endured multiple times throughout their career, and one in which they have risen to each and every time. So with the release of their intriguingly titled What the Dead Men Say just on the horizon, its time to take a look and see if they have they managed to maintain their momentum yet again. There is a whole lot to like about What The Dead Men Say. At only 10 tracks long, it still clocks in at a respectable 48 minutes in duration. There are obviously a few longer tracks, but for the most part, there is nothing on here that leaves the listener wanting once the whole album is over. As to be expected, there is a nice flow to the album, with each track standing as part of a broader package, yet still being able to be enjoyed on their own.In terms of the overall soundscape, there is an ever-present darker tone to the album that really harkens back to the earlier eras in the band’s career. Songs like Amongst the Shadows and the Stones or the central riff in Sickness Unto You have strong Ascendency-era vibes coursing through them, but still feel invigoratingly Trivium for the year 2020. This has created almost the perfect marriage of their early era work with their current path and would feel like an appropriate album to give to anyone to demonstrate what Trivium is all about.Musically, What the Dead Men Say feels like Trivium’s best work yet. The musicianship is expectedly high, and the production quality is again phenomenal. The guitar riffs are some of the more enjoyable ones that the band has churned out in the past few albums, and the intricate guitar work of Matt Heafy and Cory Beaulieu on songs like The Defiant or the solo in The Ones We Leave Behind really demonstrate the total growth that Trivium has over their greater sound. Not to be outdone, the rhythm section also shines brightly on the album. Sections like the chunky bass riff that opens Bleed Into Me, or the finely tuned drumming on the title track breathe life into the album that most rhythm sections would be devoid of being able to provide. Paolo Gregoletto has brought another concrete performance to the table on this record, and while much has been said about the inclusion of Alex Bent and how much he has brought to the band since his inclusion, he certainly leaves nobody questioning just how right of a fit he is for the band with his performance on What the Dead Men Say. This iteration of the band really is their most cohesive form and their musical output on this album is testament to that.As far as vocal growth, Heafy is unstoppable. The transformation his vocals have undergone over the past decade, even from album to album, is absolutely phenomenal. The tonal control that Heafy has on his voice is remarkable and his vocal performances on songs like The Defiant and Scattering the Ashes bring incredible power to the tracks and certainly elicit an emotional response from the listener. With all that being said, if you had to take a very fine-tooth comb through it, the one potentially negative takeaway from this album would be that from a songwriting perspective there is an underlying feeling that certain songs feel less cohesive than what the band has done over the past few years. This isn’t a negative light, and strictly speaking, the songs don’t sound drastically different than what the band has cooked up before, but for this listener, there was a feeling that some of these songs might have been tooled together as a collection of really good riffs that the band had come up with that they wanted to include in one package. Again, this doesn’t detract from how good these songs are, but for some of the more long term fans, this record may not exude that same cohesive songwriting polish and finesse they may have been expecting through some of them in song transitions.Production on the album has once again been handled by Josh Wilbur for his third collaboration with the band, and as already stated, is quite phenomenal. There is minimal to a fault in terms of the mix or production levels, with each element present in the songs never oppressing each other and creating a perfect soundscape amongst these tracks. As the sum of all its parts, What The Dead Men Say is a brilliant album. It’s brimming with energy; it is unapologetic in delivery; and is what many would expect the ‘next step’ for Trivium would be. While this album might not have the same exuberant confidence that The Sin and The Sentence held, it is the sort of record you would give to someone if you wanted them to know exactly who Trivium is and what they are about. This is definitely another step towards greatness for Trivium and is one that will bring the long term fans, and hopefully some of the more fringe fans along for the ride.

Album:

After 18 months they have returned with another 10 tracks of pure fucking metal: In the Court of the Dragon. Frankly, I don’t know how they have done it. I mean sure, there hasn’t been a chance to tour that release, which leaves plenty of time for writing, rehearsal and recording. But in an era when plenty of bands are dropping singles and EPs to pass their time, who the heck has the audacity to release a second full album? Such is the confidence of Trivium on album number ten. This isn’t … Dead Men… Part 2 either, this one stands on its own as a killer record. We descend into the court via the instrumental intro, ‘X’, and like … Dead Men… ‘s ‘IX’, it builds anticipation perfectly before the title track erupts with fury. Matt Heafy is not mucking around on vocals. This is a full on onslaught of blast beats and beastly vocals. The chorus is sung cleanly and the breakdown is brutal. The solos flat out shred and I tell ya, if you find yourself faced with a dragon (metaphorical or otherwise), chuck this badarse tune on and see if said beast doesn’t throw down in the pit with you. ‘Like a Sword Over Damocles’ gives you a chance to wipe the sweat from your brow but only just – this is a thrasher with Matt in growl mode. The chorus is epic again and I’ll be damned if fists aren’t going in the air at festivals across the world. The title refers to the constant peril faced by those in power, a great allusion to the “weight” of leadership through the pandemic era. The guitar work is again epic, Corey Beaulieu is just straight fire as he and Heafy trade off.So far, there isn’t a ton of difference between the opening tracks and the last couple of albums. Second single ‘Feast of Fire’ is a bit different. The band was born out of a demo for another song when they decided to follow the riff into a full new song. And it is a killer anthem about overcoming the odds and finding the strength to keep going. Compare the maturity here to their earlier song, the similarly themed ‘Anthem (We Are the Fire)’ and you can see how far they evolved. ‘Feast of Fire’ is still fiercely heavy, and compliments the rest of the album by using melody and tempo differently to the other full songs. It’s the kind of song that makes the existence of this album necessary and not just an attempt to repeat … Dead Men… That said, ‘A Crisis of Revelation’ does sound like it would fit alongside the tracks on that album. Given the high quality, that isn’t a sin at all. They are still capable of trying different things – ‘The Shadow of the Abattoir’ is the kind of epic song Trivium have in their arsenal and features what might be Heafy’s best vocal performance ever. From a slow baritone delivery on the verses to the higher key of the chorus, Heafy takes us on a journey through depression as he warns us to “don’t go searching for battles… you’ll rip yourself to pieces…” The extended solos that breakout into replicating the vocal harmony are near perfect too. Paolo’s vocal modulation on the harmony for the last chorus is also ridiculously good. ‘No Way Back Just Through’ is another rager with a festival ready chorus that will no doubt get a great run when they play headline gigs. It’s actually hard to pick highlights on this one, each song is strong for its own reasons and the album is cohesive in a way that harkens back to classic 80s albums that fit neatly onto two sides of a vinyl. ‘Fall into your Hands’ is a banger with the trio of vocalists doing some of their best work on the chorus. It’s a take-no-prisoners thrash riff with multiple solos and instrumental passages for air guitar along with. It’s at this point I should also mention the strings. They have popped up on a few songs, buried in the mix, but at the end of ‘Fall…’ they get their own space and it is a glorious coda for the song. What Trivium does best though is rock hard, so ‘From Dawn to Decadence’ fits the bill perfectly. It thrashes, blasts and stomps for four minutes with a hooky chorus to hum later. We close with the face melting ‘The Phalanx’. The grand intro riff drops into the mid tempo verse before Heafy uses his scream. There’s more strings on the bridge before the heroic chorus. Fair to say they throw everything into this one, including more sublime solos. Drummer Alex Bent deserves credit for keeping up with the riffs too and still putting in fills and little moments that just elevate the songs by punctuating a riff or space in the vocals. The songs, like the album as a whole, are about facing demons and fighting for your cause. It caps that theme off beautifully with the band standing definitely alongside Matt.In their youth they were mocked for wearing their influences a little too closely: thrash bands like Metallica and Testament, mixed with European death metal influences. At times they have done full albums of clean singing, written curious bouncy singles and engaged in prog epics with long titles. The Trivium of their last few albums, dating back to 2017’s The Sin and the Sentence, is one that has emerged with a clear sense of self and the type of sound they want. There are arena worthy choruses, seriously heavy riffs, technical solos and a lyrical sensibility that mixes the personal with mythological. Trivium is now just Trivium, and In the Court of the Dragon is another release that defines what that means: they are one of the best metal bands on the planet.
