Riverside is a rock band from Warsaw, Poland. It was founded in 2001 by friends Mariusz Duda, Piotr Grudziński, Piotr Kozieradzki and Jacek Melnicki, who shared a love for progressive rock and heavy metal. Riverside can be described as a blend of atmospheric rock and metal elements, resulting in a sound similar to that of Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, The Mars Volta, Opeth, Dream Theater, and Tool, while still maintaining an identity of their own.One day near the turn of the millennium, during a short drive, Piotr Kozieradzki played Marillion in his car for Piotr Grudziński. While drummer Piotr 'Mitloff' Kozieradzki had played in two death metal bands, Dominion and Hate, and Piotr Grudziński had played guitar in a metal band, Unnamed, they both shared a deep affection for progressive rock. They were already friends with producer and keyboardist Jacek Melnicki who also owned his own studio. The three decided to experiment with progressive music but they needed a bass player to complete the lineup. Mariusz Duda, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from the band Xanadu, agreed to attend a rehearsal in late fall of 2001 at the request of Jacek. Reactions to this first meeting between the four experienced instrumentalists were extremely positive.After a few rehearsals, the members realized that they were involved in something special and deeply satisfying. Once a few compositions were completed, Mariusz attempted to sing in his own language, singing that was probably similar to the vocalizations in their future track "The Curtain Falls", although all future vocals and lyrics were to be written in English. Thus Mariusz began to take on the role of vocalist as well as that of the bass player. In October 2002, about a year after their formation, the band performed a pair of shows in Warsaw. After the distribution of about 500 copies of their demo, the band performed at a small club in Warsaw once again in early 2003. As the band continued to write more material for a full-length release, there grew a dissonance between keyboardist Jacek and the other members of Riverside. Jacek wished to continue with his studio pursuits so, during the latter part of 2003, he split from the group.The rest of the band was left to mix their first album, which was to be entitled Out of Myself. It was released in Poland in late 2003. The success of the album in Poland and the live shows that the band performed led to a release of the album on American record label Laser's Edge in September 2004, this time with cover art from Travis Smith, painter for bands such as Opeth, Anathema, and Devin Townsend. The album Out of Myself has won best debut in many magazines and websites such as Metal Hammer and Belgium Prog-Nose.

In her native Poland they have long been celebrated, their last two albums reached gold status there. In Germany, however, they are even after five studio albums and two short stays in the charts still a secret: Riverside. Their sixth album "Love, Fear And The Time Machine" could change that.Who knows the band already, which falls on the same at first listen of the album: here something has changed. Less instrumental, for a greater focus on vocals and lyrics; less metal sounds, but more melodies and feelings - Riverside dare in the 14th year after it was founded the step from progressive rock and -Metal towards the songwriter rock.A bit of "The Cure", a little bit "Porcupine Tree" - these comparisons are not unreasonable, but it is rather influences. So it is clearly stated: On "Love, Fear And The Time Machine" Riverside still sound like themselves, even if their sound has become a bit quieter and more subtle.But matching the depth of content of the album. In the texts it comes to major decisions in life, and fears about forgetting this. »Discard Your Fears" is the first single, his listeners prompting the singer Mariusz Duda in direct response to throw the fear of the unknown overboard to find his peace and to get the head of all free. On October 21st, 2016 Riverside will release a new album, the first instrumental, which is a compilation of songs from the years 2007 to 2015 as well as new tracks recorded at the beginning of 2016.Mariusz Duda about the upcoming release:"I had a feeling that the sixth RIVERSIDE album might be the last chapter of a story. That the future releases might have a different sound, a different character... Unofficially, I called our latest three albums "the crowd trilogy". Each subsequent title was longer by one word - four, five, six. Six words was long enough as a title and I thought that was the one to finish it off with...Before we started a new chapter, perhaps a "new trilogy", I had an idea to release a complementary album. An album in between. An album we had always wanted to record. It wouldn't be just new music but in our case and in such configuration it would definitely be a new quality because we hadn't released such an album before.For years, we have accumulated a lot of material, a part of which was released on bonus discs. I know that some of our listeners still haven't heard those pieces and do not realise that RIVERSIDE, basically right from the start, have been experimenting with ambient and progressive electronic music. And that's always been a part of our music DNA.So I presented the idea to the rest of the band and the decision was unanimous. We decided to make a compilation of all our instrumental and ambient pieces, and release it this year as an independent album. Some of the songs would be re-mixed to make them sound better, but most of all, we'd add new compositions.At the beginning of the year, we locked ourselves in the studio and we started to compose. We even published a picture on our facebook page, in which Grudzien is holding a small keyboard as a joke. That was that recording session. We were working with smiles on our faces, genuinely excited, knowing that this time it wasn't just a bonus disc or an addition to something "bigger" but a fully fledged, independent release with that kind of music, full of space, trance, melodies and electronics. The day before I got a text message from Grudzien, "I really can't wait for this release, I have always had a dream for RIVERSIDE to release such an album.""Eye Of The Soundscape" compiles all the special instrumental RIVERSIDE tracks previously used as bonus material for the "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" and "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" albums, alongside rare cuts as well as 4 new songs ("Where The River Flows", "Shine", "Sleepwalkers" and "Eye Of The Soundscape") into a massive playing time of +100 minutes, which will be available as 2CD-Mediabook, 3LP (With both CD's as bonus) or Digital Download. The release again features cover artwork by Travis Smith and features 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase RIVERSIDE's ambient electronic side.It is worth recalling that on July 22 had it's premiere a new version of the album "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" - the first in history of the band 5.1 surround sound album, which is already available for purchase.

Riverside is pleased to announce that their upcoming seventh studio album, "Wasteland", will be released via their longtime label partner InsideOutMusic. The album will once again feature artwork designed by longtime visual partner Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend). Riverside's Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the album's overall concept: "I'd been thinking about exploring post-apocalyptic regions for a long time. I read books, watched films, played video games, all connected by stories about an attempt to survive in a world that had just ended. But writing such a story myself didn't make much sense until now. Riverside is starting a new chapter and after our recent experiences, a story like that has gained more meaning. 'Wasteland' is mostly about what's happening in the world these days, but it also makes a reference to the tragedy that befell the band in 2016. Musically we've returned to darker sounds, but we have also turned a new page and recorded the album in a different style. It's still Riverside but expressed in a much deeper and more mature way. Most artists say the same thing while promoting their new releases: that they have just created their best work to date. I won't say that because everything we have done so far has been consistently very good and unique. But I will say that we have never had such an incredible emotional load on any of our previous releases and it's not likely that we will ever make such a charged album again. 'Wasteland' is an epic, multidimensional, poetic and very deep album. Perhaps of the once in a lifetime kind."

Mariusz Duda, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from the band Xanadu, agreed to attend a rehearsal in late fall of 2001 at the request of Jacek. Reactions to this first meeting between the four experienced instrumentalists were extremely positive.After a few rehearsals, the members realized that they were involved in something special and deeply satisfying. Once a few compositions were completed, Mariusz attempted to sing in his own language, singing that was probably similar to the vocalizations in their future track "The Curtain Falls", although all future vocals and lyrics were to be written in English. Thus Mariusz began to take on the role of vocalist as well as that of the bass player. In October 2002, about a year after their formation, the band performed a pair of shows in Warsaw. After the distribution of about 500 copies of their demo, the band performed at a small club in Warsaw once again in early 2003. As the band continued to write more material for a full-length release, there grew a dissonance between keyboardist Jacek and the other members of Riverside. Jacek wished to continue with his studio pursuits so, during the latter part of 2003, he split from the group.The rest of the band was left to mix their first album, which was to be entitled Out of Myself. It was released in Poland in late 2003. The success of the album in Poland and the live shows that the band performed led to a release of the album on American record label Laser's Edge in September 2004, this time with cover art from Travis Smith, painter for bands such as Opeth, Anathema, and Devin Townsend. The album Out of Myself has won best debut in many magazines and websites such as Metal Hammer and Belgium Prog-Nose.

Live ID. the definitive live album by Poland’s prog masters RIVERSIDE culminates the “ID.Entity” cycle. 12 songs in over 110 minutes of playing time recorded in June 2024 in Warsaw.Their latest album, ID.Entity was released on January 20th 2023, to some controversy. Complaints were heard from the fans: too poppy, too electronic, too mainstream, too happy, too bright – insert “few random quotes from your favorite browser” here. But as the tour cycle began after the release those became quieter, more reluctant – and that, I believe was the effect of hearing the new songs live. I was lucky to attend one of the tour stops early on, the second show of the cycle, only a couple of weeks following the release – and it immediately changed my perception of the new music, making it a part of my regular playback rotation.Now, almost two years to the day after that release, we’re welcoming Live.ID, recorded on June 1st 2024 in Warsaw. By this point, Riverside had spent a year and a half presenting the album live, with close to 90 shows under their belts. Their comfort with the material and the home crowd shines through in every note.The setlist has not been changed much since the start of the tour, covering most of ID.Entity, even the monumental The Place Where I Belong – and some of the earlier epics, most notably Conceiving You and Egoist Hedonist. Each and every one of those comes with enough improvisation and subtle shifts to make it feel fresh, even for longtime fans.While the recording quality is outstanding, capturing both the band’s energy and the enthusiasm of the Warsaw audience, the surround sound experience on the Blu-Ray will likely elevate this even further.*Live.ID beautifully closes this chapter in Riverside’s journey, beginning with ID.Entity and ending with nearly 90 shows of unforgettable performances. As the band takes a break from touring in 2025, this release offers fans a way to relive the magic and cherish the memories from a fantastic tour.
