Bio:

Queensrÿche /ˈkwiːnzraɪk/ is an American progressive heavy metal band formed in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington out of the local band The Mob. The band has released 14 studio albums, one EP and several DVDs, and continues to tour and record. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Geoff Tate, guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield.Queensrÿche has been successful in the progressive scene, having sold over 20 million albums worldwide, including over 6 million albums in the United States. The band received worldwide acclaim after the release of their 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime, which is often considered one of the greatest concept albums of all time. Their follow-up release, Empire, released in 1990, was also very successful and included the hit single "Silent Lucidity". The band has received three Grammy Award nominations for songs off both albums. In the late 90s, drummer Rockenfield also received a Grammy nomination outside of Queensrÿche. In 1997, guitarist and primary songwriter DeGarmo left the band for personal reasons. Over the years, his replacements have been Kelly Gray, Mike Stone, and Parker Lundgren, respectively. Following a highly publicized backstage altercation before a show in São Paulo, Brazil in April 2012, Tate was fired from the band and replaced with then-Crimson Glory singer Todd La Torre. In response to his dismissal, Tate and his wife Susan (who served as the band's manager from 2005–2012) filed a lawsuit in a Washington court, claiming that he was wrongfully terminated. The ruling in the preliminary injunction was that both parties were allowed to use the name Queensrÿche until a court ruling or a settlement decides who gets to use the name.A settlement was reached on April 17, 2014,in which founding members Wilton, Rockenfield and Jackson were awarded the rights to the band trademark, continuing to play with the lineup that additionally includes singer La Torre and guitarist Lundgren.During the time both parties could use the name Queensrÿche, Tate created his own lineup featuring former guitarist Gray and musicians from bands including Blue Öyster Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Dio, AC/DC and Quiet Riot. This version of Queensrÿche with Geoff Tate released the album Frequency Unknown on 23 April 2013,while Queensrÿche (with La Torre replacing Tate) released their eponymous album on 24 and 25 June 2013 (European and American release date, respectively). Both bands toured in 2013 and 2014.

Album:

Queensrÿche is the self-titled debut EP by the American progressive metal band Queensrÿche, released independently in September 1983 through 206 Records and reissued later that same year through EMI-America.A remastered edition was reissued in 2003 through Capitol Records. The 1988 reissue by EMI saw the addition of a bonus track, "Prophecy", which was recorded during the Rage for Order sessions in 1985–86. This song was performed live by the band circa 1983, and was included on the 1984 Live in Tokyo home video. A demo version of "Prophecy" appears on the soundtrack for the movie The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years, and on the deluxe edition of Sign of the Times: The Best of Queensryche. In the early 1980s, Queensrÿche was known as The Mob, a cover band that played songs from popular heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.Their line-up consisted of guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, drummer Scott Rockenfield and bassist Eddie Jackson. Without a singer, they performed several shows with Geoff Tate, who at the time was the front man of the local band Babylon, and later of Myth. Tate chose not to join The Mob, because he was not interested in performing heavy metal covers.Inspired by the positive responses from their performances at local rock festivals, The Mob decided to switch from playing cover songs to writing original music. The four members, who were between 17 and 19 years old, rehearsed five days a week in the basement of Rockenfield's parents, and took on at least two jobs each to earn enough money to record a 24-track demo tape. They booked the graveyard shifts from Monday through Friday at Triad Studios in Redmond, Washington to record four songs.Tate was asked to join the band for the recording sessions, and in the same week write the lyrics to one unfinished song, which became "The Lady Wore Black".The whistle at the beginning of "The Lady Wore Black" was unintentional, as Brett Miller recalls: "Geoff needed to set the mood, so he had the lights turned off and sang with a single candle burning in the studio. While waiting for his first verse to come up, he whistled along with the opening guitar not realizing they were taping him. He told them it was a mistake, but everyone agreed it was cool, so they kept it."Attempts to be signed to a label through the demo were unsuccessful.Kim and Diana Harris, the owners of Easy Street Records, ultimately offered The Mob a management contract. As the band name "The Mob" was not available,it was changed to "Queensrÿche".Kim Harris sent the demo tape and a band photo to a friend at the British music magazine Kerrang!, resulting in a glowing review and causing a growing buzz in both the United States and Europe, following which the Harrises released Queensrÿche's demo tape as a self-titled EP on their independent 206 Records label in 1983.After the EP garnered international praise, receiving much airplay and selling an unusual number of copies for a small independent release,Tate agreed to leave Myth and become Queensrÿche's permanent lead singer.Kim Harris convinced EMI-America A&R manager Mavis Brodey to see Queensrÿche perform as the opening act for Zebra in Portland and Seattle on June 29–30, 1983.Brodey offered Queensrÿche a contract with EMI, spanning 15 years and encompassing seven albums. To support the EP, the band toured with Quiet Riot through the south and with Twisted Sister to the East Coast and Canada, and played in Seattle opening for Dio.After the tour had ended in November 1983, the band began preparations for their first studio album, The Warning.

Album:

The Warning is the first studio album by American progressive metal band Queensrÿche, released on September 7, 1984, and reissued on May 6, 2003, with three bonus tracks.Queensrÿche wrote the material for The Warning during their tour in support of the Queensrÿche EP, inspired by world events and the 1949 George Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.The album was recorded in various recording studios in London with Pink Floyd-producer James Guthrie. In 2013, lead singer Geoff Tate explained the band's dissatisfaction with the album's mix: "The only time I ever experienced [a record label restricting creative freedom] was during the recording of Queensrÿche's first album, The Warning. We went $300,000 over budget and the label took the record out of our hands and gave it to someone else to mix.The guy that mixed the album had no clue what Queensrÿche was. He never listened to hard rock music and didn't take input from anyone in the band.He just mixed it according to how he thought it should sound. No-one in the band could listen to that record. We all hated it."The Warning shows the band in an early stage of development, playing straight heavy metal songs unlike later albums in which more experimentation was expressed. It was a moderate commercial success in the United States, although none of the singles charted domestically. However, "Take Hold of the Flame" was an international hit, particularly in Japan. In support of the release, Queensrÿche went on a worldwide tour from August 1984 through to July 1985.During the American leg of their tour, they were the opening act for Kiss on their 1984–85 Animalize Tour and Iron Maiden on their 1984–85 World Slavery Tour, while in Europe they opened for Dio on their The Last in Line tour 1984.The album's original track sequence and sound mix that the band had approved, was changed by mix engineer Val Garay under orders from EMI-America, against the wishes of the band. This original intended sequence is identical to the final track listing but with the following exceptions: "N M 156" as the opening song, "Warning" as the second to last track, and "Deliverance" and "No Sanctuary" appearing in the opposite order. The band first learned of this in August 1984, while on tour in Japan.

This excellent broadcast recording catches Queensryche at an early but crucial formative stage in their development.

Album:

As requested, here's some QUEENSRYCHE albums released in Japan pressed on high quality SHM-CD as part of a remastered reissue campaign from various '80s Rock artists / albums. "Rage For Order" is Queensryche second effort, and for many (including me) one of their best.An album that, in many ways, made a revolution with its sonic approach and production values. If there’s one thing you can say about "Rage For Order", it's that it is one of those albums that only could've been made in the '80s.In fact, to me, this is one of the most innovative Rock records from the decade. It blended hard rock guitars and epic vocals with awesome, keyboard / synth layers, compressed drums and digital technology tricks such as the 'reverse echo'.The first time I listened "Rage For Order" in 1986 my jaw dropped... because that huge 'sonic mayhem' (courtesy of maestro Neil Kernon who also play keyboards) wrapped some terrific songs too.Yes, "Rage For Order" also packs some of the best penned Queensryche songs ever. There's a layered and complex musical structure that employs the classic two-guitar approach, but also brought keyboards forward in the mix. And lyrically, the album is mind blowing too.Queensryche explored social / personal, political and technological themes among others, highlighting the dangers of artificial intelligence and government intrusion. The concept of robotics and technological paranoia would also be emphasized through the use of staccato rhythms and vocal effects to die for."I Dream In Infrared", "Surgical Strike", "London", "Screaming In Digital" or the beauty of "I Will Remember" are absolute classics to me, but in fact all tracks are highlights, not a single weak song here.Even the 'tech' cover of Dalbello's "Gonna Get Close To You" is perfect. As you see, I am a big fan of "Rage For Order". For me, this is Queensryche's at their peak, combining the mastery of Operation Mindcrime with commercialism and catchiness of Empire. This SHM-CD press / remastering is simply a-we-some, plus 4 bonus tracks including the terrific 12'' extended remix of 'Gonna Get Close to You (12" ext. version)'

Line-Up:

Geoff Tate – lead vocals, keyboards

Album:

Promised Land is the fifth studio album by the American heavy metal band Queensrÿche and their highest charting record to date. It was released by EMI on October 18, 1994, four years after their successful Empire album. The album was re-released on June 10, 2003 in a remastered edition with bonus tracks. The songs on this album are tied together firmly by the themes of success and aging, and reflections on American society and how that shapes our goals and dreams in life. The album opens with "9.28 a.m.", a musique concrète sequence put together by drummer Scott Rockenfield. The band wanted to have a cool intro that was cinematic and moody, and Rockenfield was given complete freedom to make something.Rockenfield went out to record natural sounds using a portable ADAT tape recorder, which he sent through a rack of effects in his apartment and started designing his own sound effects out of it.Some of the recorded sounds also appear on other tracks on the record, such as the sound of a train on "Disconnected"."9.28 a.m." follows a soul from death through the ether into a reincarnation, and rebirth, followed by the sound of a crying baby. The title refers to the time Rockenfield was born."9.28 a.m." floats into "I Am I". This song is driven by a heavy riff and Geoff Tate's trademark vocals to a background of percussion instruments. Chris DeGarmo performs cello and sitar parts on this song as well as the guitar solo. After almost four minutes it merges into "Damaged", a more straightforward heavy rocker."Out of Mind" and the subsequent "Bridge" are more quiet acoustic pieces, both of whose lyrics were written by Chris DeGarmo. The last one deals with the relationship with his father, who died during the Promised Land sessions. The eight-minute title track is the first track in the Queensrÿche catalogue to be credited to the entire group. It is a rather dark piece, full of Rockenfield tape effects, DeGarmo/Wilton twin guitar work and it marks Tate's first appearance as a saxophonist. On this track, the theme of the album is most present, as it deals with the drawbacks of success. It ends in a bar scene of people talking and drinking (slightly reminiscent of the ending of "Welcome to the Machine" on Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, which deals with a similar subject matter). These sound effects merge into "Disconnected," a rather alienating piece dealing with the American consumerist society. It features Tate on sax again. The subsequent "Lady Jane" deals with the similar theme of the influence of commercials. It is a heavy ballad featuring DeGarmo on piano and another twin solo."My Global Mind" is another more straightforward rock song dealing with globalization. After that, "One More Time" is an acoustic rocker, with lyrics much in the vein of the title track. The album's final track, "Someone Else?", features just Tate on vocals and DeGarmo on piano.

Album:

"Frequency Unknown", the only album released the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE following his dismissal from the band featuring guitarists Michael Wilton and Parker Lundgren, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield, arrived in April 2013 amidst a swarm of controversy. The group had just split in two, with Tate leading an all-new group of musicians while the remaining members of QUEENSRŸCHE carried on with a new vocalist, Todd La Torre.Tate's version of QUEENSRŸCHE included longtime associate Kelly Gray plus former QUIET RIOT and OZZY OSBOURNE bassist Rudy Sarzo and legendary AC/DC/DIO drummer Simon Wright. This group quickly recorded and released "Frequency Unknown", and though the album earned some praise from critics, complaints began to surface about the quality of the album's mix. In response, Cleopatra Records commissioned multi-instrumentalist and producer Billy Sherwood (of YES) to remix the entire album. However, due to schedule restrictions, Sherwood was never able to complete his mix... until now.Cleopatra, in association with Deadline Music, proudly announces a whole new "Frequency". Coming November 4, a special limited-edition deluxe reissue of "Frequency Unknown" will be released. Packaged in a striking 2CD digipak, the deluxe edition includes the original album plus a full-length bonus disc of Sherwood's complete reimagining of the album. Many of the songs were rearranged almost from scratch, with Sherwood adding orchestral arrangements and his own unique spin on these compositions.

Album:

Condition Hüman is the upcoming fifteenth studio album by American progressive heavy metal band Queensrÿche, due to be released on October 2, 2015 through Century Media. It is also the second studio album recorded with vocalist Todd La Torre, after Geoff Tate was fired from the band and lost the rights to the name after a two-year lawsuit about who would get the rights to the Queensrÿche brand was amicably settled. The album's first single, "Arrow of Time," became available for streaming on July 20, 2015, the day the album's title and release date were announced. It was recorded in early 2015 at Uberbeatz Studios in Washington and produced by Chris "Zeuss" Harris. The official video for QUEENSRŸCHE's new song "Guardian" can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's new album, "Condition Hüman", which will be released on October 2 via Century Media. The CD was recorded in part at at Uberbeatz Studio in Washington with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris, who has previously worked with ROB ZOMBIE, HATEBREED, SOULFLY and SHADOWS FALL. Pre-Orders are available now at PledgeMusic.com."Guardian" "touches on the empowering qualities of strength in numbers, and how people can rise up to create real change," QUEENSRŸCHE singer Todd La Torre tells Billboard.com. "Movements are evident across the globe in varying degrees, ranging from ideological perspectives and how they relate to cultures, socioeconomic differences and its effects, human rights, etc. It is an anthem that supports people standing up for rights and values that may be infringed upon on the micro and macro level. It's a single thread that surrounds a multifaceted topic of being human, human relationships relating to others and the world that surrounds us. Good, bad or indifferent, change is possible, but is only as strong as its relativity to perception, which perhaps is the very foundation and basis for the initiation of change."Todd La Torre states: "The artwork depicts a beautiful innocence surrounded by the darkness of a jaded unpredictable world."In a recent interview with "Hard Time Radio" on KNON 89.3 FM in Dallas, Texas, La Torre stated about QUEENSRŸCHE's follow-up to 2013's "Queensrÿche": "We're really excited about the songs. We put a lot of into it, and hopefully the fans really dig it. You never know. It's so subjective, but there's such a diversity, I think, of material that, surely, there's something for everyone — kind of like on the last record… There's some stuff that sounds like it would be from the 'Mindcrime' era, there is a couple of songs that sound like they could have been from 'Empire'. There's also some tunes that could have been from the 'Rage' and 'Warning'…"He continued: "Honestly, I know it sounds typical or cliché to say, but I really feel that there's material on this record that spans from the first record that the band did up to 'Empire' and maybe even 'Promised Land'. There's a lot of diversity, but there's a complexity to these songs… It's a different animal to the last record. The last record was awesome and we're very proud of it. This one is a lot more involved, [with] a lot more layers. And I think, vocally speaking, I was able to do some things on this record that I didn't get to do on the last one, just because the material maybe didn't call for it, but this stuff does. There's some really dark and slow and haunting, creepy stuff on here. There's just a lot of… I don't know… It's hard to compare it to anything. So that's why I think that the best thing I can say is I think that there's something for everyone on this album; I really believe that… The drumming on this is so good, the bass… the rhythm section, the bass playing of Eddie [Jackson] locks in with Scottie's [Rockenfield] kick drum. I mean, the guitar work that Parker [Lundgren] and Michael [Wilton] did really shines. And a lot of great harmony guitar work that was so evident in the QUEENSRŸCHE sound is very vibrant on this record in certain places. Everything was microscoped to every single, tiny little detail that… no expense was spared. We didn't wanna overdo everything."Todd added: "Sometimes you can go a little crazy, and you have to learn when to say 'enough is enough.' And Chris 'Zeuss', our producer, who also engineered the record, he was very mindful of the QUEENSRŸCHE style and sound, and he was a huge fan of the band, so he definitely wanted to capture those pure QUEENSRŸCHE elements, but also make the band sound like it should sound in 2015. It doesn't sound dated, but there's still that QUEENSRŸCHE sound. It is a different lineup, and there's a new energy, and there's a drive that this record has that, I think, is really refreshing. And sonically speaking, it just sounds… it sound killer. It sounds killer. I'm super excited for this record to come out. I think it's definitely a great step."Regarding QUEENSRŸCHE's collaboration with Chris "Zeuss" Harris, La Torre said: "He was right at the forefront of the metal scene that was happening up in the New England area, with the style of SHADOWS FALL and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and that kind of stuff. So he was immersed into that genre of metal for a long, long time. And he did the new SANCTUARY record, which sounds really great. And so he was super excited to get it to the territory of music that QUEENSRŸCHE does, and he handled it with extreme respect and care, but he wasn't afraid to say 'no.' If he didn't think it was the best, he had no problem respectfully saying, 'No. That's too happy.' Or, 'That sounds kind of corny.' Or, 'You can do better'… to all of us. And he really pushed us to do the best that we could respective to each song. So, yeah, he was very eager and enthusiastic and honored to work with QUEENSRŸCHE, and we were equally… felt the same way to have him do this record.""Queensrÿche" sold around 13,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Album:

With over 20 million albums sold worldwide, innumerable accolades and a career that not only spans but has charted the course of multiple genres, Queensrÿche remain a force in their own right. "Digital Noise Alliance", Queensrÿche's 16th studio album and fourth to be helmed by founding guitarist Michael Wilton, vocalist Todd LaTorre and bassist Eddie Jackson continues the ever-evolving legacy the Bellevue Washington born band began in 1982 when they first took hold of the flame with their hugely received self-titled 4-song EP. Their recent US tour with Judas Priest proved that the band's time off the road and in the studio only stoked their ambition and fire.
