L.A. was a Danish hard rock band originally active in the late 1980s and early 1990s.L.A. reunited in 2003 to complete their recordings for the second album, which had been put to rest upon disbanding in 1986.In 2022 Jens Impgaard, Henrik Rohde Jensen and Jan Achmann formed a "new L.A." under the name Luna's Affair with British vocalist Andrew Murray.Unfinished Business is a 2004 compilation and re-recorded material release issued via Escape Music.The release compiles modernized versions of the group's mid-1980s demo tracks alongside vintage live cuts.Contrary to what the initials might suggest, L.A. is not an American band but a Danish one. In this case, “L.A.” stands for ”Lost Angels‘ and has no connection to the Californian megapolis.The five-piece melodic hard rock band formed in the early 1980s in Vejle, Denmark. Following a single demo, they released their self-titled debut album in 1985. It was generally very well received, but thereafter L.A. suffered the same fate as many other new bands of that era—the familiar, sad story of groups dissolving due to bankrupt record labels, touring issues, and similar setbacks.As a result, L.A. disbanded in 1986 before finishing their second album. However, due to high demand for a reissue of their 1985 debut album, the band finally reunited in 2003.Since the chemistry was still there, L.A. entered Jailhouse Studios and collaborated with reputed producer Tommy Hansen to dust off the old demo tapes and finally finish the second album that had been gathering dust for 17 years.

The combination of mid ’80s Scandinavian melodic metal / hard rock and a crystal-clear, full, modern production, works exceptionally well. There is no doubt that this is near the finest production output heard from Tommy Hansen—which is saying a lot.Musically, L.A. maintained their 1985 sound, a melodic / hard with great guitar / keyboard interplay and big vocals – think of TOBRUK, early PRETTY MAIDS, HEAVY PETTIN’, and a tougher SKAGARAK.Listening to ”Unfinished Business”, there’s no doubt about it: despite being re-mixed / partially re-recorded in 2003, it sounds unmistakably 80s. Highlights include: “Credit card Lover” – catchy and fun.“Down the Cross” – heavy, with a war‑like intro (bombing sounds) creating urgency. “High on You” – very radio‑friendly and infectious. “Point of Uncontrol” – powerful, with a driving guitar attack. “Last Night” – a pleasant ballad, with all that Eighties feeling.Additionally, two tracks from the debut album appear here in live versions: “Gates to the Sky” and “Hunted.” Raw and energetic, they show the Danish quintet playing with full force.”Unfinished Business” is a very enjoyable listen, with several catchy tracks. Fans of 80s Scandianvian melodic hard rock will enjoy this.As a bonus, the ultra‑rare debut album “L.A.” is included in this special edition of ”Unfinished Business”. The sound is much more ‘1985’, and in fact some of the songs were recorded as a demo, but the song are enjoyable and with that nostalgic emotion.
