Bio:

FRONTLINE from Nürnberg, Germany belong to the pioneers of the German hard rock scene. Founded in 1989 by Robert Böbel (guitars, keyboards; EVIDENCE ONE, PHANTOM V), Stephan Kämmerer (vocals), Thomas Riess (bass) und Stephan Bayerlein (drums), their debut album "The State Of Rock" finally hit the stores in 1994 - a true classic which until today still is regarded as the finest album of the band by many. This record also meant the breakthrough for the guys in Japan where they reached # 10 in the rock sales charts. Straightly after the release, FRONTLINE went on tour in Europe and had the honour to open for various great acts such as GOTTHARD, CRASH TEST DUMMIES, BONFIRE, TYKETTO and CASANOVA. In 1995, FRONTLINE pulled out the full acoustic album "Two Faced". However, personal differences within the band followed and ended up in the departure of Stephan Bayerlein and Thomas Riess in 1996. They were replaced by Thomas "Hutch" Bauer (Bass) und Rami Ali (Drums; EVIDENCE ONE, SHYLOCK). Still in the same year, FRONTLINE signed a record deal with a new label, recorded the single "Man In Motion" and the album "Heroes" which though officially only saw the light of day in Japan since their European label went out of business. One year later, the band decided to start working on another new album which is well known under it's working title "Heroes II" amongst the fans but never saw a release. Due to a complicated contractual situation many labels feared to contact FRONTLINE during the following years and the band went back to the underground again until Georg Siegl at AOR Heaven finally showed his interest in the band in the year 2000 and signed them for the first time. Just one month later, the album "Right Attitude" was released which can be regarded as a sort of compilation out of both "Heroes" albums …and "Right Attitude" became a huge success for the band again! The recordings for their 2002 output "Against The World" started the same year, and this album finally re-established FRONTLINE on the international hard rock market. Throughout the months after the release of the best of compilation "Almost Unreleased" (2003) which also featured a couple of rare tracks for the fans, FRONTLINE again went into the studio and started to work on a new album called "The Seventh Sign" (2004). In the year 2006, the last studio album the German group called "Circles" was released. AOR Heaven now re-issues the rare and out of print album "The State Of Rock" with two bonus tracks as a limited edition of 1000 copies. The album was re-mastered by guitarist Robby Böbel.

Album:

Japan edition with 2 bonus tracks. The legendary and nowadays hard to get FRONTLINE debut from 1994 "State Of Rock" again sees the light of day again.Frontline is considered a Melodic Hard Rock institution, and one of the best exponents from the genre ever coming out from Germany. For many - including myself - this debut "State Of Rock" is their finest moment, with a touch of '80s AOR all over the polished melodies.Frontman Stefan Kämmerer (the guy that Journey should've gotten to replace Steve Perry) has got a unique voice that perfectly fits the songs, plenty of slick guitar riffs / solos, keyboard swirls and catchy choruses. Some of these songs are astounding to say the least. Tell me you don't get shivers down the spine after listen to 'Another Love'. The verses just make you melt. What a monstrous song!Elsewhere, 'Heaven Knows' and 'The Night Comes Over You' are immense slices of melodic hard rock, while the AORish 'Endless' sounds very much like a beefed up Stan Meissner track.'Dangerous Game' is a pulse laden affair which has to-die-for staccato-like keyboards cascading throughout. It's almost criminal that these guys aren't more well known. "State Of Rock" is a monster, BIG sounding Melodic Hard Rock beast from performances to 'huge' production.

Album:

AOR Heaven Records edition.Frontline is a band that I didn't even know existed until I reviewed their newest album, Against The World last year. That album still receives regular play in my CD player. However, I had reservations about this album when I first heard about it. You see, Almost Unreleased contains three new songs, previously unreleased tracks, and Japanese bonus tracks. Therefore, I was afraid that these songs were merely "leftovers" and somehow not worthy of placement on a regular album. Well, my misguided reservations were quickly dashed upon first listen to this melodic hard rock jewel….The three new tracks are all uptempo rockers: My Innocence, No one Like You, and I'll Be There For You. All three pick up right where Against The World left off with their winning formula of catchy melodies and wonderful song structures. If this is a sign of things to come, the next Frontline album will deliver the same high quality of melodic hard rock the band has become known for.For hard rock and AOR fans who have not yet discovered Frontline, this would be a great place to start. Frontline plays an excellent brand of guitar driven hard rock. Stephan Kaemmerer offers a colorful and melodic vocal delivery (not too far from that of Ted Poley), while the music itself is uplifting and jam packed with melodies. The keyboard sound is very big, but fits within the structure of the songs very nicely. The guitars are still at the forefront of the sound, while the keyboards enhance the climatic moments of the songs. Careful attention is placed on production as the instruments and vocal lines are at the perfect levels, making the CD very easy to listen to and enjoy. I am also very impressed with the guitar work of this band. The rhythm work and soling of Robert Böbel certainly adds a lot of color to the songs. From the first track to the last, Almost Unreleased is a fair representation of the band's classy, addictive sound. This is NOT an album full of leftover scrap! You are getting three new tracks (all of the uptempo variety), previously unreleased tracks, tracks previously available in Japan only, and a live version of Endless to close the album. All songs are very worthy of the Frontline name as the quality level remains high throughout the album. Highly recommended or fans of the band as well as those looking to discover an excellent melodic hard rock / AOR band.

Album:

AOR Heaven now will re-issue the former Japanese only release “Heroes” as limited edition of 1000 copies. The album was re-mastered by guitarist Robby Böbel.Frontline is a band that, if you are a fan of the melodic hard rock/AOR sound in general, you gotta love 'em at first listening. The band's debut album "State Of Rock" back in 1994 was and still remains one of the classic Euro Melodic Hard Rock albums ever. One year later, in 1995, Frontline released a good opus with acoustic tunes in it, simply titled "Acoustics", and in 1997 "Heroes" saw the light of day.First of all, I have to state that "Heroes" is a fantastic record all the way. More AOR oriented than the huge debut "Heroes" is one of those albums that you feel in love at once. I was lucky enough to own the first edition of this masterpiece 'cause of my trip to Germany back then. For many years this gem was out of stock and you could find it around the net in ridiculously high prices. Nowadays and thanks to the rock label of AOR HEAVEN, "Heroes" is back again for your ears pleasure. After the release of the acoustic album, Frontline moved to a couple of line-up changes. Stephan Bayerlein and Thomas Riess left the band and Thomas Hutch“ Bauer (Bass) and Rami Ali (Drums; EVIDENCE ONE, SHYLOCK) were the new 'kids' on board. With them on board the band recorded and released "Heroes"."Heroes" is an album that has no fillers in it! The quality here is guaranteed and you can realize it from the first song till the last one that closes this little gem. "Our Love", "Someone To Love", "On The Run", "I Must Be Dreaming" and "Man In Motion" are only a few highlights here. As I mentioned above, there are no fillers, only killers!!! For sure, "Heroes" is an album that is a big must have for each and every single AOR freak out there. A true classic of its kind!!!

Line-Up:

Stephan Kaemmerer - lead and backing vocals
Robby Boebel - guitars, keyboards
Chris Lausmann - guitar

Album:

Frontiers Music say welcome FRONTLINE to the label roster – they signed a deal a few days ago for the release of the band’s comeback album (which it’s almost finished, btw). The German Melodic Rock giants open an important new chapter in a career that has helped shape European AOR since the late ’80s, and especially keeping the flame alive during the obscure ’90s. Built around the unmistakable voice of Stephan Kämmerer, Frontline’s sound has always stood for strong melodies, soaring hooks and a timeless album-oriented vision.Following the passing of guitarist and songwriter Robby Böbel in 2022, their upcoming music represents both a tribute to the band’s legacy and a step forward into new creative territory. To celebrate, today FRONTLINE are reissuing by themselves “Right Attitude“, perhaps their hardest album to find ever.According to the band press release; ”Right Attitude is an album that has a special place in our history. Originally released in 2000, ”Right Attitude brings” together songs from the album ‘Heroes’ era plus additional tracks from the sessions of the never-released ”Heroes II”. In many ways, it’s the missing link between classic Frontline releases.”“Right Attitude” was a Limited Edition CD (distributed by AOR Heaven) and never was available on any other format until now, February 6th, 2026.

Album:

German melodic rockers Frontline announce; “After all these years, “Against The World” (2002) is finally coming back – available for the first time on all digital platforms. This album means so much to us. It’s a piece of our history – and above all, a piece of your history. For decades you’ve been there for us: supporting us, listening to our songs, and staying loyal through it all. We truly can’t thank you enough for that.Being able to make this album available again with you again means the world to us. Our fans are – and always will be – the heart of everything we do. Let’s celebrate this together. Spread the word, and turn the songs up loud. Frontline is back… Against The World – together with you.”And indeed Frontline is back – not only reissuing their back catalog (via their own label Stereotide Media) – but also with new music: they signed a deal with Frontiers Records a few days ago for the release of the band’s comeback album (which it’s almost finished, btw).“Against The World” is perhaps Frontline’s toughest sounding record. Their first couple of albums held strong comparisons to Journey and sure enough, vocalist Stephan Kaemmerer retains that style to his voice. Anyway, this record has a more distinct European melodic hard rock feel – natural for a German band. While guitar-driven, keyboards still play a strong role – leading the intro for a few tracks, but generally act as a support to strong guitar parts. This is still very much 80s style melodic rock, but the production is tighter, which helps the record sound more contemporary. Frontline’s unique vocal harmony production style is again the main force behind the strong choruses and anthem like hooks. If you have heard their previous albums, you will know what I mean.Comparisons this time to Hugo, and his awesome debut album. Hugo as you know, is a strong resemblance to Journey’s Steve Perry, but with a darker edge. So to with Frontline and the style of this album.Indeed, this is classic Frontline with its Journey / Bon Jovi-ish melodic rock influences, but with a darker and heavier edge. There are no fillers, just good, catchy pumping tunes. One listen to tracks like ‘One Night’, ‘Don’t Break My Pride’, the anthem ‘Lightening Eyes’ and the huge ballad ‘Man With A Broken Heart’ should be all that is needed to convince fans of Melodic Hard / AOR that this is a winner. Those numbers are just examples, all are good, effective, entertaining stuff.Since the beginning of this new Century Frontline sound became a little darker and a little more guitar driven, but this is still a pure 80s styled album with a strong comparison to Hugo and Journey, albeit with a European twist. Some great harmonies, some great hooks and some very strong vocals. Solid production also.“Against The World” is one of Frontline’s best albums, or at least most musically consistent, and thoroughly enjoyable for sure.

Album:

With "Rebirth", German melodic rock pioneers Frontline return with a powerful and emotional statement, opening a new chapter in a career that has helped define European AOR since the late 1980s. Founded in Nuremberg in 1989, Frontline quickly established themselves as one of the genre's leading acts, built around the unmistakable voice of Stephan Kämmerer and a songwriting approach rooted in strong melodies, big hooks and album-oriented vision.Over the years, Frontline released a string of acclaimed albums including the genre-defining debut The State of Rock (1994), followed by Two Faced, Heroes, Right Attitude, Against the World, The Seventh Sign, Circles and Ultimate Salvation, earning an international reputation as one of Germany's most respected AOR exports. Their sound blends soaring vocals, melodic guitar work and polished production, inspired by the golden era of late '80s and early '90s hard rock, with a distinct European character.Following the passing of guitarist and songwriter Robby Böbel in 2022, "Rebirth" represents both a tribute to the band's legacy and a step forward into new creative territory. The album features the original singer Stephan Kämmerer alongside new guitarist and producer Christian Mühlroth, whose fresh energy and musical vision play a key role in shaping this new era of Frontline.Comprised of 14 brand-new AOR tracks, "Rebirth" delivers a direct, no-frills melodic rock approach, driven by anthemic, uplifting and sparkling choruses, emotional performances and confident songwriting. The singles "Two Tickets To The Afterglow," "Burning Horizon" and "After You're Gone" highlight the band's ability to balance classic AOR values with renewed intensity and focus.Rebirth is more than a comeback—it is a reaffirmation of Frontline's identity and a celebration of melody, emotion and the timeless spirit of AOR, reborn for today and ready for the future.
