Babylon A.D. is a hard rock band formed in 1986. Babylon A.D. hail from the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Original members, Derek Davis vocalist/songwriter, guitarists and music writers Dan De La Rosa and Ron Freschi, drummer Jamey Pacheco and bassist Robb Reid were all in childhood rival bands. In 1989, Babylon A.D. caught the attention of Arista Records president and industry music mogul Clive Davis, who signed them at a live showcase in Los Angeles.Babylon A.D. self-titled album was released in 1989 and included their hard rock classic hits "Bang Go the Bells", "Hammer Swings Down" and "The Kid Goes Wild", which was the trailer song and video for Orion Pictures movie RoboCop 2. The band scored three number one songs at metal radio and reached gold on their first release. Their sophomore effort "Nothing Sacred", released in 1992 produced two more metal radio chart toppers, "Bad Blood" and "So Savage the Heart". Constant touring throughout the early 1990s and several MTV videos made them one of hard rock fans favorite bands. After spending several years with Arista, the band signed with Apocalypse Records in 1999 and released Live in Your Face, a compilation of live tracks recorded at various cities throughout the United States. The band's next release American Blitzkrieg, soon followed in 2002 and both CDs were well received by critics and fans alike. In 2006, the band released In the Beginning on Apocalypse/Perris Records, which contained songs from the original demo tapes that secured them their record deal with Arista Records. After a long hiatus, the band regrouped with all original members and recorded a new version of their No. 1 metal hit song "Bang Go the Bells" which is now available worldwide from Apocalypse Records.Vocalist and songwriter Derek Davis is currently recording his first studio release (Re-Volt) which is due on January 30, 2012 world wide.In late 2007, Ron Freschi started a project called Syrym, providing a return to the guitar-heavy sound of Babylon A.D.'s debut album. Syrym's self-titled debut was released for digital download on August 16, 2008. The CD version of the album was released October 17, 2008. Their first single, "Warpath," hit stores June 25, 2008.

Album:

First time reissued in fully remastered form, here’s in exclusive the recent Bad Reputation Records release of BABYLON A.D. killer album “Nothing Sacred“, including 3 bonus tracks. Babylon A.D. enjoyed a small success with their selftitled debut (1989) album and they still gained trust from Arista Records to release this second album in 1992. Their musical style here is like a collision between WARRANT and the smoky, locomotive rock and roll of AEROSMITH. They’re also heavily influenced by the classic rock acts such as LED ZEPPELIN, AC/DC, and UFO. Take a winning team, complete it with Tom Werman at the production helm, and you get a pretty awesome second chapter from the band. This Bad Reputation remaster is awesome, including 3 bonus tracks live, two never previously released on CD including a cover of Aerosmith’s ‘Sick As a Dog’. Standout tracks here are “Take The Dog Off The Chain”, “Psychedelic Sex Reaction”, “Dream Train”, and the absolute monstrous power ballad, “So Savage The Heart”. At the time of this recording Babylon A.D. were a more mature unit, and you cant tell with the strong songwriting and arrangements. Just listen to ‘Redemption’… what a kick ass powerful sound. “Nothing Sacred” is one of the latest releases from the genre in 1992 before the dark age in US rock begun… Killer CD all over, and a very welcomed punchy remastering job by Bad Reputation.

Babylon A.D. is proud to be one of the few hard rock bands from the late 80s / early 90s that is still operating with all of their original members: Derek Davis (vocalist/songwriter), guitarists and songwriters John Matthews and Ron Freschi, drummer Jamey Pacheco and bassist Robb Reid. The band formed in 1987 and to celebrate their 30th anniversary, the band will release its new album “Revelation Highway” on November 10, 2017.Vocalist Derek Davis on the new album:“This record kicks ass, from the opening track ‘Crash And Burn’ to the last track ‘Saturday Night’. The band had a blast making the album and a lot had to do with original founding member lead guitarist John Matthews rejoining the band. He really lit the fire that got the band's blood pumping to make a new record. For me it was awesome to produce and mix such a cool record. It’s very hard hitting yet melodic, with some great lyrical storytelling and great stand out tracks like, ‘One Million Miles’, ‘Tears’, ‘Rags To Riches' and ‘She Likes To Give It’. The songs are so catchy and memorable on the first listen I know our fans are gonna love it! And of course there are some burning guitar leads to keep the metal heads happy. The band is very grateful that Frontiers Music Srl listened to the tracks and felt the same way about them as we do and offered us the opportunity to get this record out. We can’t wait to hit the road and play the material live.”Featuring 10 tracks of energetic classic hard rock the band is known for, “Revelation Highway” is sure to please fans of the band’s classic early material. The band will play shows in the UK and Germany this August/September to kick off promotion for the album with more touring planned both in the U.S. and UK/Europe!Formed in 1987, Babylon A.D. hail from San Francisco, CA. In 1988, Babylon A.D. caught the attention of Arista Records' president and music industry legend Clive Davis, who signed them at a live showcase in Los Angeles. Their self-titled debut was released in the fall of 1989 and included their hard rock classics “Bang Go The Bells”, “Hammer Swings Down” and “The Kid Goes Wild”. The band scored three #1 songs at metal radio and reached gold sales status in the US on their first release, which spent 38 weeks on the Billboard Top 200, peaking at #46. Their sophomore effort, “Nothing Sacred”, was released in 1992 and produced two more top ten metal songs: “Bad Blood” and “So Savage The Heart”. Album:

Cult late ’80s hard rockers BABYLON A.D. have signed a deal with American specialized label Perris Records and the first release scheduled for March 17th is “Live Lightning“, a live set showcasing the group firing on all cylinders. The new album includes their top-ten rock-radio classic hits “Hammer Swings Down”, “Kid Goes Wild”, “Bang Go The Bells” from their debut release, their hit “Bad Blood” from the “Nothing Sacred” album, and songs from their studio albums “American Blitzkrieg”, “The Lost Sessions” and their last release “Revelation Highway” are all featured. The fourteen hard-rocking tracks on “Live Lightning” showcase the high-energy, powerful live performances that Babylon A.D. is renowned for, and the band plans on hitting the road in support of the new album.Every studio album Babylon A.D. have released is represented so it’s a good mix of songs. It’s really cool hearing the songs fresh with a few the surprises and the few mistakes here and there kept it interesting and real. A blood-pumping ‘real live’ recording. Some people may see it as a bold move to open your latest Live album with a track off the latest studio record when your most iconic album harks back to 1989, but Babylon A.D. is just one of those bands that has never put out a less than stellar record and ‘Saturday Night’ one of my favorites from 2017’s ‘Revelation Highway’ and the song I noted was sure to become a live favorite, more than holds its own.Babylon A.D. roared back to live back in 2014 just a year before their 25th anniversary and hitting the live stage they proved to be a revelation and anyone who was lucky enough to catch them before their pre-covid guitarist shuffles.Over the last few pandemic-streaked years things have been quiet but the great news for fans is that Babylon A.D. is back and not just with a new live album but with plans to tour and writing underway. All of the original guys are back onboard too with the exception of Danny De La Rosa, who makes way for original guitarist John Mathews. This recording came from two dates in California back in 2015 and the choice of tracks came down largely to the quality of the recordings. Of course, the wonderful debut makes up the majority and whilst as a fan of the album it’s a little disappointing to see so few tracks from the underrated follow up ‘Nothing’s Sacred’ we did hear plenty of those songs on 1999’s ‘Live in Your Face’ though two of my favorites from that record ‘Psychedelic Sex Reaction’ (which could have been a single – it got played every week at the club I went to back in the day) and ‘Slave Your Body’.Of course, you can’t rate an album by its omissions so all I can say is that this sounds wonderful. There’s always been an immediacy to ‘Hammer Swings Down’ and another of Revelation Highway’s best ‘One Million Miles’ follows. It’s a song awash with subtle guitar and full of melody (possibly even the most commercial song here) and sees a wonderful uplifting vocal from Derek Davis. It’s the kind of song that would have been huge back in the day and it fits seamlessly between ‘Hammer’ and ‘Bang Go the Bells’ – two big guns that see Derek proving he’s one of the choice few vocalists of his era whose voice has increased in stature over the years. It’s surprisingly to hear ‘Sinking in the Sand’ from the criminally underrated ‘American Blitzkrieg’ but not because it’s not a great song, rather that is sounds completely comfortable here amongst what you might consider the big hitters.Back in the day there were two songs on that classic debut album that elevated Babylon A.D. way above other bands of the era, both appear here and the first ‘Desperate’ is a ballad that takes some topping. To me it was one of the defining ballads of the era – it should have been a huge hit and on ‘Live Lightning’ it sounds huge. Then ‘Maryanne’ from the same record has rarely sounded better.‘She Likes to Give It’ from ‘Revelation Highway’ is one of my favourite from that record. It’s an unashamedly 80s type of rocker that gives you a shiver as you hear the drums and the bass drop in above the well-fashioned lick. Derek broods and coaxes out the lyric with relish and restraint nailing the notes he did 30 years ago with ease. It’s another of those mid-tempo slow burners full of dynamics that the band made their own back in the day and they don’t miss a beat here with a wonderful breakdown and cool guitar break: this one has it all. Live it sounds sensational. Our only taste of the classic ‘Nothing Sacred’ album comes with ‘Bad Blood’ – a song that I always thought had a real Aerosmith flavour as well as a killer chorus. Here it sounds glorious and completely addictive. Revelation Highway opener ‘Crash and Burn’ sounds great too, and to be honest it’s a wonderfully balanced setlist that proves that the newer material is equally good as Babylon’s first albums.‘Shot Of Love’ is absolutely undisputedly one of my favourite songs of the 80s. From the first time I heard it I knew that this was a band that would stay with me forever and 34 years later I’m still here. It’s the near perfect Hard Rock song, full of emotion, dynamic, hard edged and with a chorus that just grabs you and doesn’t let go. Back in the day this was the song on all of my mixtapes and all these years later it is still one of my very favourites. It’s Babylon’s ‘Lightning on a bottle’ and my perfect song. After that high it takes a helluva song to keep things going and ‘Love Blind’ the opener from the ‘Lost Sessions / Fresno, CA 93’ EP’ does the trick, it’s a great ‘lost’ gem that works beautifully in the live setting.Getting near the end of the show we of course have to end with some debut album gems: first comes the wonderful dirty bluesy groove of ‘Sally Danced’ and the show just has to close with Babylon’s most well-known song ‘Kid Goes Wild’ which here sounds even more wonderful than you might remember it.If you never saw Babylon A.D. live this is the reason to get out next Summer and buy a ticket. If you missed the band entirely then this is the absolute proof that it’s never too late to discover some of the very best hard rock music of the past and find out it’s still being made by the very same guys today. As live albums go this is one of the very best I’ve heard in years.

Bio:

Album:

BABYLON A.D. announces their brand-new studio album “Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day” to be released May 17th on Perris Records. It’s been six years since the last studio album "Revelation Highway" came out and the band has grown a lot since then. Original lead singer Derek Davis is really excited about the new record stating "Our fans are really gonna love the new album” and they brought in Grammy award winner David Donnelly of DNA Mastering to master the album to help step back in time and capture the style and influence of their debut self-titled release. Before we dig into this effort, I’ll give us all a brief history of the band: Formed in 1987 from the San Francisco Bay Area, CA., original members, vocalist and songwriter Derek Davis, guitarist's and music writers John Mathews and Ron Freschi, drummer James Pacheco and bassist Rob Reid met in high school before they began playing together as THE PERSUADERS making a name for themselves with their powerful live performances and catchy songwriting skills becoming one of the top drawing original Hard Rock bands in the Northern CA. Changing their name to BABYLON A.D. in 1989 securing a record deal and releasing their debut self-titled album in 1990 followed by two more well received studio albums “Nothing Sacred” and “American Blitzkrieg” before a taking a long hiatus and returning in 2014. Fast forward to 2023 with a new live concert album “Live Lightning” and bringing us to my review of “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day”.A strong start to the album with “Wrecking Machine” has a snappy infectious riff immediately grabbing your attention with vocalist Derek Davis letting us know his voice, like a fine wine, hasn’t weathered with a crisp and velvety delivery that that meshes beautifully together with the wonderfully paced melodic hard rocking tempo delivering an invigorating ebullient sound bringing us back to the era of dropping the needle down, cranking the volume and getting lost in getting lost in the music. “Pain” is a slow burn “kick sand in the bully’s face” nasty riff balanced with a threatening vocal delivery leading to the title track “Rome Wasn't Built In A Day” that brings catchy, melodic rocking chops all sewn together with edgy and raw guitar licks. “Looking For A Heartbeat” is a pleasant, easy listening song destined to be an instant concert favorite and a radio hit. “I Will Never Break Again” is a trip back to classic early BABYLON A.D. with the somber, tender start of the passionate vocal delivery that eventually explodes with the slamming dual guitar take-over that finishes like a high-speed car chase. “Face of God” gets right to the point of what this wicked world is missing at this time of unrest with the heartfelt lyrics sung with celestial intensity “Some say broken hearts come easy and life’s a battle for the soul, never make a false God dreaming or you could wind up being sold, put your faith in something that will last forever, the face of God”. Ending the album on an adrenaline high with “Shut Up” and “Super Beast” showcasing the signature hard rocking chops and the big hooks of the dual guitar wizardry of Ron Freschi and John Mattews that are both slick and smooth creating a whipping, whirlwind musical spectrum.BABYLON A.D. definitely rekindled the romance of their earlier sound with “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day”, while not resting on their laurels by delivering a modern and vibrant sound incorporating a bit of nastiness, elegance and old school headbanging.
