The band was formed by Jonas Erixon and Fredrik Ekberg. A few years later Glenn Ljungkvist joined.The band has toured in Sweden and Finland and been the support band for Ian Gillan on his toolbox tour 92. Then broke up the band the same year. Then it was reformed in 2006 with new drummer Jesper Persson. 2009 they released the album "world of anger" (Forestrecords sweden) and played at sweden rock festival the same year.In 2013 the rawer album "Free falling" (Heart of steel records Italy) was released. 2015 the band started working on the forthcoming 3:rd album "Unforgiven to be forgiven" together with the new lead guitarist Michael Åkesson.

After five years since their last album, Swedish rockers ALICATE aare band with new effort titled "Unforgiven To Be Forgiven" to be released tomorrow. The band is not an example of prolific releases, but have been together since 1985 (!) formed by singer / guitarist Jonas Erixon & bassist Fredrik Ekberg."Unforgiven To Be Forgiven" is their third full length, showcasing the band stronger than ever and firmly determined to establish themselves as a solid act in the current melodic / hard rock scene.Alicate's style ranges from elaborated Melodic Hard Rock to rather pompous sounds with echoes to Magnum (UK), and the Whitesnake comparison is inevitable due to Erixon's pipes sometimes recalling David Coverdale. When his vocals turns more melodious as on the soaring "Scream" or the midtempo "Erase & Rewind", he reminds you Bob Catley, and of course Magnum.What I really like about Alicate is the clever inclusion of pianos on several songs, as on the superbly melodic and dynamic "Where Do We Go - Where Do We Hide", the melodic rocker 'Last Breath' (with some House Of Lords in it), and the very Whitesnake-like 'Cry No More' - great tune and a favorite.For more heavier material there's 'Facing My Fear' recalling Jorn, but even here the pianos / synths creates a sweet atmosphere, then in 'I Don't Mind' they add that aforementioned Magnum touch, and perhaps a bit of TEN, also heard in the closer semi-ballad 'All To Win'.Alicate takes some time between albums, but this benefits the overall final product and "Unforgiven To Be Forgiven" is their best album to date. The songs are consistent throughout, with varied passages, great lead vocals / harmony choruses, some killer solos to boot and a potent, clear production.Classic stuff in the vein of Magnum, TEN, House Of Lords, Whitesnake, Jorn's melodic side... you get the picture.

Album:

Alicate was formed in the late eighties by lead vocalist Jonas Erixon and bass player Fredrik Ekberg. In the early years they played mostly local venues, but were able to release a 7" single called "The End/Too Shy To Take It", which is a collector's piece today. Fast forward to 2006 where the band reformed and started to work on new material that resulted in their first full-length album, called "World Of Anger" that was released in 2009. The success of this album and the popularity of their concerts, led to the release of their second album, "Free Falling" in 2013. Their third full-length album, "Unforgiven To Be Forgiven", followed in 2018 together with the live EP "Live At Forum". The creativity was reaching soaring levels when Covid-19 sadly hit the world and put the progress on hold for the band. However, Jonas Erixon still wrote songs and collaborated with some high profile artists and wrote/co-wrote songs for Giant, Skills (with Billy Sheehan and Brad Gillis) and Sweet Oblivion (Geoff Tate). During the pandemic, work also started on new material for Alicate. The band looked for a natural progression from their last album that would result in a more 'distilled' version of the band, adding even more hooks to the songs. Four years after the release of the last album, Alicate returns to form with the brand-new album "Butterfly"! This new record consists of 10 hi-octane tracks that can be categorized as hard rock with a large dose of melodies in them.

The result was the most successful album to date "Butterfly" (released 2022 via Pride & Joy Music).The Swedish quartet quickly started recording their next release in the same vein.The result is their new album called "Heaven tonight" (2024) that was recorded and mixed in Spjutseroad Studios and Blind Mans Aim Studios which will now be released again on Pride & Joy Music on April 19th, 2024.
