Bio:

Warrior Soul is an American hard rock band formed by lead singer and producer Kory Clarke. Clarke started the band on a bet from a promoter at New York City's Pyramid Club, after a solo performance art show called "Kory Clarke/Warrior Soul". Clarke was determined he would have the best band in the city within six months. Nine months later he signed to Geffen Records, with a multi album deal.Kory Clarke originally started in the music scene as a drummer for a number of bands, including Detroit punks L-Seven (not to be confused with the all female Los Angeles band, L7) and Pennsylvania Southern rockers Raging Slab. After realizing his calling was as a singer and front man, Kory Clarke promoted himself to stage front and founded Warrior Soul. The band began to play in New York City in 1987, and soon came to the attention of Geffen, who signed the band. Geffen directed Clarke to shed his hired band and get new players. Clarke insisted on keeping Pete McClanahan as his bass player, and recruited guitarist John Ricco and former Killing Joke drummer Paul Ferguson. In 1990, Warrior Soul released their first album, Last Decade Dead Century. The 11-track studio album received critical acclaim, especially in the U.K., where listeners readily embraced the band's political invective and insurrectionist rantings as the next big thing.1991 saw Ferguson replaced on drums by Mark Evans, and the band's second album Drugs, God and the New Republic release, which took their anarchist leanings even further. A nationwide support tour with Queensrÿche (with whom they shared management from the Q Prime agency) followed. The following year saw the release of the band's third album, 1992's Salutations from the Ghetto Nation, and Clarke's relationship with Geffen sour. Clarke's interviews became increasingly bitter, often focusing on the band's record label, whom he accused of ignoring the group's potential.Eventually, Clarke resorted to an all-out war, telling all who would listen that the band's fourth release, 1993's Chill Pill had been botched on purpose in order to fulfill the band's contract. The ploy seemed to work, and by early 1994 Warrior Soul were dropped by Geffen.A number of lineup changes ensued. Longtime guitarist John Ricco was ousted, replaced by two guitarists: Alexander Arundel (aka X-Factor) and Chris Moffet (former Cycle Sluts from Hell lead guitarist). Not long after, Mark Evans and Chris Moffet departed. At that time former Nuclear Assault/Cities/Cycle Sluts from Hell drummer Scott Duboys joined the band. The line-up now consisted of Clarke, Arundel, McClanahan and Duboys. Clarke sought to reinvent Warrior Soul as self-appointed cyberpunks for their fifth album, 1995's The Space Age Playboys, released on the independent Futurist label. While touring in support of the album, Warrior Soul headlined the 1995 Kerrang! U.K. tour, as well as performing at the 1995 Dynamo Open Air festival, and also at the 1995 Donnington Monsters of Rock concert. After the performance of their last live show in September 1995, Arundel, Duboys, and longtime bassist McClanahan quit the band, leading in short order to Clarke's decision to retire the band later that year.In 1996, Odds & Ends was released as a collection of demos recorded on an eight-track with Arundel, and leftover material that was originally intended for release on Elektra Records. The "classic" lineup of Clarke, Ricco, McClanahan, and Evans would later reunite in the studio to re-record twelve of the bands' songs, released on Spitfire records as Classics in 2001. All Warrior Soul albums were remastered and re-released on CD and MP3 in 2006 and 2009, including with bonus material (mostly live songs originally released as b-sides). The first three albums were also re-released on vinyl in 2009.Clarke says many of their songs are politically based, such as "Blown Away", "Superpower Dreamland", "In Conclusion", and "Children of the Winter." Clarke describes the band's sound as "acid punk", particularly their The Space Age Playboys album.Drummer Mark Evans was murdered in London, UK in 2005.

Album:

"You mighta had dope, guns, and riots in the streets, but your kids have smartphones and Netflix and they could not care less about your cyclops revolution. Which is a bit of a nightmare for the last true rock star, a wild-card from the streets of Detroit, Kory Clarke who made his reputation and career on being the baddest motherf*cker in all of Badsville with an incendiary socio-political agenda and a roar-for-war that rattles mountains." Classic Rock - Warrior Soul are back with profane sermons delivered at high velocity and maximum volume and this is what the new album is all about! 'Back On The Lash' is a powerful statement of intent from Kory and Warrior Soul. Kory Clarke is one of the last true rock n' roll frontmen and since the classic 'Last Decade Dead Century' in 1990 he has continued to swim against the tide of mediocrity and safe rebellion. His last solo album 'Payback's A Bitch' received the full score in Rolling Stone magazine upon release. This firebrand of political invective and rock n' roll is back on the lash with a new album for 2017 and you won't hear a more powerful or authentic album this year. It is everything you would expect aggressive, vile and wants to make you go to the bar and tell the planet to fucck off. "Kory Clarke should be considered and is one of the great Rock Stars of all time along with Bon Scott, Axl Rose and Micheal Monroe." Lars Ulrich - Metallica on 'It's Electric' Apple Radio 1. 2017 Track listing: American Idol; I Get Fuucked Up; Back On The Lash; Further Decay; Thrill Seeker; Goin' Broke Gettin' High; Black Out; I've Got The Rock; That's How We Roll

Album:

After a wonderful return with last year’s ‘Back on The Lash,’ which bridged a five year gap between studio albums, Warrior Soul proved to everyone that they still know how to Rock and Roll. Of course in an alternate Universe it would be Kory Clarke and co rather than Nirvana who reshaped Rock and Roll.Opener ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Disease’ picks up where ‘… Lash’ left off without missing a beat. ‘Up The Dose’ bristles with a suitably gritty rolling riff before Kory’s growl bursts in and takes control, it’s a song that has the growl of early AC/DC and a serves as a very nice ‘welcome back’ indeed. The short sharp title track ‘Rock N Roll Disease’ follows and explodes with a nice wail and delivers a similar vibe – this is low down and dirty Rock and Roll of the highest order. After that ther’s no respite, the explosive opening ‘Off My Face’ continues with Kory growling an opening before the guitars, bass and drums amp it up further like Motorhead in their pomp. Next up ‘Melt Down’ chugs into view and bursts into flame to simmer nicely before the vocal kicks in and stamps all over you; in no time at all ‘Rock On’ grasps you in its bluesier talons and dirty groove, it’s a rough and ready ride with no let up in sight.By the time ‘War Ride Children’ hits you feel almost cheated that you’re already into the final stretch. It’s a loose and sleazy groove that seeks to meld the energy of Detroit’s dirtiest rock and roll with the bump and grind of the 80’s LA scene that sneered at the glamour of the Sunset Strip. The album closes out as ferociously and stridently as it began: ‘Going Mental’ as you might imagine has a tale of debauchery to tell, and it tells it at pace with a growl and a groove that just won’t let up. Closing track ‘After The Show’ is the shortest song here and gets right to the point with some righteous guitar and another tale of excess. It’s a great way to leave us hanging.I complained last time out about one thing only – the fact that ‘Back on the Lash’ contained only nine tracks, well there’s one less here, but like that last album it’s the quality that counts and if Warrior Soul are going to be putting out an album a year I’ll take eight new songs all day long! With a European Tour in May get out there and see one of the best bands out there and one of Rock’s finest performers in full flight. Raw and raucous Rock and Roll is timeless and Warrior Soul aren’t going away soon. Play this one at maximum volume, if you don’t you’re missing the point completely.

Line-Up:

Album:

WARRIOR SOUL will release a covers album called "Cocaine And Other Good Stuff" on November 13 via Livewire/Cargo Records. The LP will be preceded by a single, "Elected", on October 9."Cocaine And Other Good Stuff" is an incendiary compilation of songs that everyone in the band, both current and previous members, had some input choosing, and it shows true honesty in the recordings, making it a fresh take on some very listenable rock jams.Says singer Kory Clarke: "We wanted to make a record that was not about all the crap we are all living in, as it seems like a well-worn path for. So, I had to think out of the box."The album was recorded all over the western world (Edinburgh, Scotland; Newcastle, England, Copenhagen, Denmark; Los Angeles; New York; Chicago; Detroit; Sheffield, England; Costa Blanca, Torrevieja, Spain) in home studios. The idea for a covers album started when Clarke was contacted by legendary rock photographer, Alex Ruffini's brother, enquiring if WARRIOR SOUL would record a cover of a KISS song, which was Alex Ruffini's favorite band, for a tribute in aid of cancer research. WARRIOR SOUL recorded "Cold Gin". Once the band started recording, it sounded really positive and they decided to assemble a complete record of covers ranging from MOTÖRHEAD to KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND.Says Clarke: "I contacted many of the musicians who have played with WARRIOR SOUL recently and asked if they wanted to be part of it. Everyone was very much up for it and ready to go. We called John Dryland at Livewire/Cargo Records, and he said, 'Of course, go for it. The irony of recording 'Good Times Roll' during a global pandemic really works as you can hear the sneer of sarcasm right through every chorus."WARRIOR SOUL is known for recording some electrifying covers previously, including songs by JOY DIVISION, Iggy Pop and David Bowie. Kory Clarke has performed on several compilation and tribute albums singing other acts songs but this is the first complete album of its kind from WARRIOR SOUL.

Album:

Poetic and timely, ‘Out On Bail‘ speaks to us as survivors and fighters, celebrating in success and yet wary of things to come. It is a perfect gateway into the mind and soul of this unique songwriter and ground-breaking band.Produced by Kory Clarke. Additional Production by Dennis Post. Mixed and Mastered by Rune Buck. Additional Sound Support John JJ. Watt . Bass Tracks Recorded at Zuleika Studios by Erik Tricity Bass Tricity. After a frighteningly good ‘covers’ outing last time out of the traps it’s back to all original Rock and Roll for Kory Clarke and co. with ‘Out On Bail’ hitting the streets via Livewire / Cargo Records UK this March is yet another reason you need Warrior Soul in your life!If you dug the first single and opening track ‘We’re Alive’ which builds to a stomping riff rocker from the initial atmospheric tolling of a bell all the way to the unbreakable mantra of ‘We’re alive, we’re alive’ as Clarke spits out some wonderfully bleak pandemic-inspired lyrics. It’s a crazily good hard edged opening that has echoes of earlier works and a dab of the Cult in the relentless riffing. It sets you at ease that the band is picking up where they left off with 2019’s ‘Rock N Roll Disease’.‘One More For The Road’ highlights Clarke’s whisky-fueled growl and of course is all about the relentless touring we used to do in the good old days! It’s a little tinged with psychedelia, and rather moody with it, and whilst it almost fails to get to the point ‘Hip Hip Hooray’ gets back to full iconic groove I so love about this band. Railing against Corporate greed (and here Trump gets a nice few lines) never gets old!Title track ‘Out on Bail’ has a Stonsey, Faces-type groove and a Rose Tattoo intensity and is a definite highlight, as is the wonderful ‘Cancelled Culture’ that follows making the centre of this album as solid as anything Warrior Soul has done this side of the Millennium.Sadly my one gripe here is that we only get three more tracks – making a total of eight. Of course that means there’s no room for fat, and whilst ‘End of the World’, like ‘One More For the Road’ before it, have that Space Age Playboys sheen and feel a little unresolved, lyrically they hit the spot. ‘The final pairing ‘Yo Yo’ with its hard edge and vocal musings, and the spoken word poetry of ‘The New Paradigm’ are a heady mix to close. If you’ve kept up with Warrior Soul over the years then you’ll love this. It’s and album that ticks all the boxes and says all the right things and does it in a wonderfully gritty way – back alley rock an roll and still as relentless and single minded as ever.
