Band founded in 1988 in US.Melodic Hard Rock/Metal in the vein of Scorpions, Deep Purple, Dokken, Judas Priest. Stinger represents some of Michael Stevenson's earliest (and most popular) music. One of the heavy hitters of the Eugene/Springfield early 90's Rock/Metal scene was INTENSITY. Past members:Tim Donahue, Ken Whetstine, K.P. Bullet (INTENSITY). Opened for Yngwie, Quiet Riot, Ace Frehely, Edgar Winter. Michael's INTENSITY was known for technical and hook filled hard rock metal on recordings and some dominant live performances (featuring unacompanied solos by Stevenson and Donahue). Intensity featured all Michael's early rock songs. Much was in the style of Dokken and Scorpions (both are favorites of his). But he also wrote instrumentals like Satriani, Vai, and Malmsteen....and some Van Halen influenced bluesy material. Even some heavier Pantera edged riffs.So Michael started releasing a lot of instrumental music under his own name. And put together a Van Halen influenced hard rock party band with Monolith frontman Leland, Trailer Park Heroes. And released Vulgar Village (former #2 Reverbnation artist) with himself handling vocal chores.Two albums of material remained. Tim Donahue suggested Nelson for this album project, an updated ,modernized, and polished recording of Intensitys' core style-Melodic Hard Rock/Metal songs. After meeting at a Mr. Wizard gig where Nelson sang "Alone Again" by Dokken, Nelson signed on. The album was finished in short order. Michael went on to the Vulgar Village project, his instrumentals, and a re-launch of Trailer Park Heroes, while David joined "British Pop" band Phamous Phaces . The album has done well, selling out the initial shipment to CD Baby, and selling numerous paid downloads and large numbers of streams on Spotify....Local Z-rock hit from the 90's "Evil Woman" is a favorite, check out the video featuring the beautiful and sexy Katie A. Burns.The album is a "GUILTY PLEASURE" for fans of melodic 80's rock and metal. Stevenson delivers solos you would expect from him, on this particular album he pays much respect to George Lynch and Matthias Jabs, Schenker, and Glenn Tipton as well. David Nelson's vocals are clean, tasteful and melodic. Ron Brett supplies a relentless drum attack with a big 80's drum sound reminiscent of RATT or Dokken's "Tooth and Nail" and "Under Lock and Key." You will love this album..The Stinger/Intensity camp thanks David for the great vocals on "Cold as Stone" and is confident he will keep the excellence established on the album with him as he rocks the area with Phamous Phaces.Meanwhile, one more album of Stinger material remains, including past favorites like "Running Away" and the acoustic ballad "Still in Love" as well as other guitar crunchers.

The “New Scorpions.”Stinger are following in the footsteps of great European melodic metal and hard rock bands. These guys are influenced by Scorpions, Dokken, Judas Priest, Deep Purple….and many more. Featuring stellar melodic vocals from David Nelson and fantastic guitar from one of the most talented up and coming guitarists in the world, Michael Stevenson (Michael R.Stevenson), the Great-Grand-Nephew of Fay Wray (1933 King Kong Starlette). Michael won the 1992 Joe Satriani National Guitar Competition and was opening act for Yngwie among others. He delivers absolutely killer rhythm and clean parts and some of the best guitar solos ever. “Evil Woman” is fast, hip, rockin’ with a great groove. “Webs of Deceit” is dark, crunchy and mysterious. Especially great vocals and solo. “Cold as Stone” is the big radio hit you can’t stop singing along to, with a solo that sounds like a more-refined, prime Yngwie Malmsteen. Drummer Ron Brett’s groove is a driving force here! “All Night” is a light hearted sexy groovy bluesy break from the more serious tunes. It is fun and recalls Scorpions “Arizona.” “A Passion Inside” is a short, evocative keyboard piece setting up “Burning for Your Love.” An instantly classic “Stinging” melodic guitar lead hook and driving rhythm. Great vocals with that “Sense of urgency”. A one of a kind solo. The next song “In Chains” is about young men incarcerated and has a very strong Dokken/Lynch feel. An anthem! “Where are You” is equally pretty to many “80’s” ballads….but a lot tougher! Album closer has Brett, Nelson and Stevenson pulling out all the stops on the fastest tune here. Solo rivals a prime Lynch, and some of Brett and Nelsons best work as well. If you like melodic rock,……you need this!!!!
