Bio:

Tokyo was founded in the early 80s in Frankfurt. The studio musician and songwriter Robby Musenbichler (Vocals, Guitar), Ken Taylor (vocals, bass), Fritz Matzka (drums), Lothar Krell (keyboards) previously played in the Michael Wynn strip or Supermax, completed the band with Klaus Luley (Vocals, Guitar).Detailed samples resulted in outstanding live concerts. This was the beginning of a great and successful time on stages at home and abroad. Tokyo bribed by their incredible presence, supported by three singers, two guitarists, spherical keyboards and a punchy drums. With their debut album "Tokyo", produced in 1981 in the Music Park Studios in Bad Homburg, succeeded instant success in the Media Control Charts. Elaborate videos were produced by the band itself. The title track "Tokyo" became rock classics and turned on the turntables all DJ's in the hip rock clubs. To date, the song is represented on almost every rock compilation 80s.In the course of the then incipient German New Wave 'was the quick success of the group unfortunately also a handicap for the band, whose members were in high demand as a studio musician for various projects and well-known artists. Besides Spliff the musicians of Tokyo as Rhythm Section were in great demand. Your success as a band and musicians, in conjunction with its international management brought them together with the top of the genre such as Toto, Deep Purple or Meat Loaf. After the debut album followed in 1982, the next long play titled "Fasten Seat Belts", followed by the third album "San", which appeared in 1983.In 2013, thirty years after your last album Tokyo came back to the live stage - the original lineup. Only the unfortunately died in 1992, drummer Fritz Matzka missing. The extraordinary drummer Aaron Thier took the part and has a tremendous energy, enthusiasm and the perfect print introduced already in the first sample of the band in early January, 2013, convinced with the Tokyo today, the old as well as new fans.New songs emerged in the sound punchier than ever, with the same recognition and hitlastig as before. In the sound of today also known songs benefit tremendously. An effect that surprised the band itself, due to the enormous development of the individual band members over the last three decades. Sold-out house near the Red Bull Ring Spielberg and a festival concert at Clam Rock 2013 made you want more.

Album:

The Frankfurt band released three albums at the beginning of the eighties, of which the self-titled debut in particular was quite famous and contained a party hit with the title track. However, the NDW permanently killed them off and it took 30 years until the band appeared again. Almost with the original line-up, only drummer Fritz Matzka had died in the meantime. The result is a new album called "One World", which often manages the balancing act between the good old days and modernity. While in the past, of course, they liked to wade deep through keyboards and corny choirs - hey, those were the eighties, it had to be that way - the five resist the urge to continue the style unchanged. Instead, the album starts with a restrained rock song that only turns into a really strong, quiet earworm after a few listens. In the following, there is rarely any real rocking, like in 'Stand Up', mostly TOKYO stays in calm waters, which are sometimes enriched with off-beat elements, like in 'If We Don't Believe', or evoke the eighties, like in 'I'm Free', 'Soon' or 'Fall Into Sleep'. And in 'Sea Of Joy', but there so great that it is clearly the highlight of the album. In the second half of the album, a few weaker songs come to light, like the corny 'It Is Springtime Again', 'Children Of Darkness' and 'Do You Feel The Thunder', before it gets high class again with the last song 'Desert Life', as this song is much more dramatic than anything heard before. Is TOKYO back now? Yes, definitely. But it's hard to say whether they hit a nerve of the time, as they can't quite get out of their skin and some of the songs don't turn out to be rousing enough. The eleven songs lack a few catchy ideas, but whenever they deviate a little from the beaten path, things get interesting. Fans of the band and of well-made classic rock should definitely get it, all others should listen to it first. I'd like to recommend 'One World', 'If We Don't Believe', 'Sea Of Joy' and 'Desert Life'.
