Bio:

In August 2011, Wolfpakk, the allstar-project led by Mark Sweeney (ex-Crystal Ball) and Michael Voss (Mad Max, Casanova) was releasing its debut, simply titled “Wolfpakk”.Two years after, Sweeney and Voss unleash the successor, "Cry Wolf". Again the two leaders managed to gather many high-class guest musicians and vocalists, to record Wolfpakk's second longplayer. Cry Wolf release was on August 30th, 2013.2015: The two alpha wolves Mark Sweeney and Michael Voss continue their journey on February 27th when WOLFPAKK's third album "Rise Of The Animal" will be released. For the follower to „Wolfpakk“ (2011) and „Cry Wolf“ (2013) again many high-class musicians contributed to make this a very special album once again.Alpha Wolves of the Heavy Metal project "Wolfpakk" are the full blooded musicians Michael Voss (Ex-Casanova, Mad Max) and Mark Sweeney (Ex-Crystal Ball). Michael Voss and Mark Sweeney have known each other for a long time and have always wanted to do a project together. Since Michael Voss was producer for Mark Sweeney's 2nd solo album in 2009, it has finally happended that the two have found time for this collaboration.Still during these recordings the two rockers made plans for a Metal project where as many famous musicians as possible from the Hardrock and Metal scene should be involved. Thanks to Michael Voss' extensive network gathered over the years as a producer, within a sort time over 25 musicians from all over the world joined the project "Wolfpakk". All songs including lyrics have been always written by Voss/Sweeney. Vocals have been divided brotherly, as well production and mix. From start to finish acoustic fireworks have been ignited, in search of equal. All the songs of every CD are of high quality and high standard which in spite of traditional songwriting are surprising here and there. The powerful production adds to the whole atmosphere. It is idle to mention that all the top-class guest musicians add a very special touch to all outputs. All cd's are highly recommanded to all fans of traditional Hardrock/Metal combined with modern production.

Album:

The Roaring Wolves are back… On a strong wake of a surprising and a triumphal album in 2011, that was much simply called “Wolfpakk”, the turbulent duo of vocalists comprised of Mark Sweeney (ex-CRYSTAL BALL) and Michael Voss (MAD MAX/MSG / ex-CASANOVA) unleash the successor, named "Cry Wolf" , and again the choral all-star project shift is the trick to give a marketing format for this burning platter, by gathering a pack of many high-class guest musicians and a few full blooded terrific barking voices to produce another raving record in the same musical vein as the great and self-titled debut.Running and undaunted Guests on "Cry Wolf" are :Vocals: Amanda Somerville (AVANTASIA), Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR / ex-GAMMA RAY), Göran Edman (ex-RISING FORCE / ex-GLORY), Johnny Gioeli (A.R.P. / HARDLINE), Tony Mills (ex-SHY/ ex-SIAM / ex-TNT), Doogie White (ex-RAINBOW / ex-RISING FORCE / ex-CORNERSTONE / MSG), Blaze Baley (ex-IRON MAIDEN / WOLFSBANE), Piet Sielck (IRON SAVIOR / ex-SAVAGE CIRCUS).Guitars: Kee Marcello (ex-EUROPE / ex-EASY ACTION), Mandy Meyer (UNISONIC / KROKUS / ex-GOTTHARD / ex-COBRA), Roland Grapow (MASTERPLAN / ex-HELLOWEEN).Keys: Don Airey (ex-OZZY / DEEP PURPLE), Tony Carey (ex-RAINBOW).Drums: Brian Tichy (SUN / ex-WHITESNAKE), Hermann Rarebell (ex-SCORPIONS), Roland Jahoda (ex-PARADOX / F.U.C.K.)Under the leitmotiv of “if isn’t broken don’t fix it”, the Duet of Alpha Wolves and the fantastic AFM Records are teamed again in order to reedit the successful experience in giving the full and wild creative responsibility to the werewolf duet: the champions of Melodic Metal -Mister Sweeney and Doctor Voss. They wrote all the songs together (minus one surprise cover version from RAINBOW “Run With The Wolf” featuring the participation of the iconic keyboard player Tony Carey) and they were also in charge once again, for production and mixing duty, and of course they performed some ferocious vocals. This is a work of art tremendously and carefully polished that put some lights in a brilliant manner to the songwriting talent of the savage binomial Voss / Sweeney. The highlights of the albums are , the beginning track "Moonlight” with Ralf Scheepers who provide a very typical high flux of screaming and yelling, embellished by a fast pace and an epic dimension somewhere between HEAVENS GATE and MIND ODYSSEY with a little something from GAMMA RAY.In the same melodic power frenzy, the solid "A Matter of Time" that sounds like VICTORY meets BONFIRE, boosted by a share of battling vocals between Sweeney and Johnny Gioeli with an uplifting performance, courtesy of Mr. Brian Tichy beating his drum kit."Palace of Gold" reveals a new heaviness and a dark density before transforming in a more pompous style than usual with the participation to the voice of Tony Mills and a massive multi-layer backing vocal section choir, like a symphonic version of DIO merged with a delicate and fragile Prog Rock melody.Another fast double kick power number is "Beast In Me" with the always classy singing of Goran Edman, recalling that he was the singer for RISING FORCE / SPACE ODYSSEY / STRATOSPHERE and for 1999’s third album “The Last Viking” by The JOHANSSON BROTHERS and a true Neoclassical expertise demonstration in the lead spot provided by Roland Grapow. Then it's time for a real entertaining Teutonic Metal with an Hard Rock touch cut named "Pressure Down" with the very distinctive voice of Doogie White which is highlighted in a mid tempo heavy rhythm , and a strong sing along headbanging refrain with a great gang backing vocal unit, like ACCEPT meets SINNER with an extensive ad lib howling final. The rest of the tracklisting is also enjoyable mixing a few gimmick True Metal tracks as a simple sing along hymn as "Wakken" in the HAMMERFALL / IRON SAVIOR / RUNNIG WILD and obliviously ACCEPT's fashion (…"bang your head…Metal attack"…) or the less catchy but energetic, epic, tortuous and poignant title track "Cry Wolf" that extend to ten minutes with atmospheric sequence, special FX surreal sounds like wind and rain plus a few narrative parts in with a very surprising vocal interpretation of Blaze Bayley and a ultra-fast shredding piece of lead guitar signed by the one and the only, the other Swedish maestro Mr. Kee Marcello himself for a big fat guitar lesson and a serious beating .Before that we had a ballad with Mrs. Somerville but I think it's just a flat and ordinary number, very caricaturish, in a not really inspired style, before that it was the moment for the WOLFPAKK's leaders to be left alone in the vocal department at least, Voss / Sweeney are dueling in the single, a quite regular Euro Metal cut under the moniker of "Dark Revelation"…Not my favorite. The cover version of a legendary classic rock track, is as always, a double edged sword but secured with the approval and the additional playing of the early RAINBOW's keyboardist Tony Carey, to keep it in the right path, in this case "Run With The Wolf" is a good revision lightened in its rhythmic cadence structure as a result we have a more pompous rendition, with obviously the Hammond keyboards quite upfront. Finally, the album is the perfect sequel of the highly acclaimed debut; this sophomore episode fulfilled the dangerous task, with maybe a less impressive guest list but with a real focus on bringing back, proudly and under one united flag, the old nature of the pure roaring Euro-Metal mania.

Album:

Metal is a never ending source of recycled inspiration. What these words mean: Metal evolves and goes on, no matter how many tears complainers can shed (because they want to live in the past), always trying to fit on new times. Obviously that there are many musical works based on old musical formulas, but it doesn’t mean that an album or band is bad for that. “Nature Strikes Back”, the latest release from WOLFPAKK is a fine example of how things are different, even playing something old. This album is filled with many guests, to give the songs different and personal touches, but it mainly presents the same old and good German Heavy/Power Metal that arose after HELLOWEEN, RAGE and BLIND GUARDIAN started to sharp even more the melodic side of the genre. In few words: the same old and good equilibrium between weight, melody and technique is what is shown here, so it’s nothing really new at all. But in the hands of Mark and Michael (the masterminds behind the band), all the elements shine as new and fresh, with energy and really charming melodies. Yes, it’s a very good release.“Nature Strikes Back” was produced and mixed by Mark and Michael (the last one did the mastering as well), all to keep the sound quality amazingly clean and defined, but with a very good dose of musical aggressiveness and weight. It’s a great work, done in the most classical way possible. All the songs are fine pieces of German Heavy Metal, but the charming melodies and choruses of “The Legend” (great backing vocals and keyboards as well), the traditional German Heavy Metal insight used on “Beyond this Side”, the introspective ambiance created by the keyboards on “Land of Wolves” (very good chorus and Opera backing vocals), the abrasive 80’s essence of “Restore Your Soul” (that becomes a bit accessible during the chorus) and “One Day”, and that old (and excellent) ambiance of German Heavy/Power Metal presented on “Revolution” are the best tracks. To make something old shine as new is not an easy work, but WOLFPAKK knows how to make it. Hear “Nature Strikes Back” and hear for yourselves.

All cd's are highly recommanded to all fans of traditional Hardrock/Metal combined with modern production.

Album:

A trend making the light of day in the metal community and growing larger by the minute is for friends and/or acquaintances in the music scene over a period of time, coming together for a collaboration which usually involves a plethora of guest musicians and vocalists. It began as “metal operas” about ten years ago, thanks to Mr. Tobias Sammet of Edguy and Avantasia; but recently the metal opera theme has fallen away for more personal and introspective themes. The next collaboration in this trend is Wolfpakk, comprised of ex-Crystal Ball vocalist Mark Sweeney and current Mad Max vocalist Michael Voss. Long-time friends, the pair finally come together after years of planning and timing and the end result is a catchy mix of modern traditional heavy metal with hard rock. Special guests on this debut you ask, well there are plenty of them – 31 guests in all, including 12 vocalists, 10 guitarists, six bassists, two keyboardists and a drummer. Some notable names amongst the 31 include Rob Rock (ex-Impelitteri), Paul Di’Anno (ex-Iron Maiden), Tim Owens (ex-Judas Priest/ex-Iced Earth), Mark Boals (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen), Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Axel Rudi Pell), Tony Martin (ex-Black Sabbath) and Matt Sinner (Sinner/Primal Fear). Both Sweeney and Voss have written all the lyrics and music, as well as the mixing and production, and have joined label heavyweights AFM for a worldwide release. Knowing what the two musicians have achieved in their careers thus far, it would be expected that this be a damn fine CD... and it is. Catchy melodic metal forged with the harder-edged hard rock that expels some nifty guitar-work the whole way through. Being melodic metal, keyboards are a priority, but not overused like in some melodic metal bands. There is an excellent balance from the keys, through to the bass and guitars, with crystal clear production and a fine performance from all involved. With both Sweeney and Voss singing on tracks as well as the guest vocalists, it can be difficult at times to work out who is behind the mic at any given song, but those with a keen metal ear should be able to narrow it down in no time at all. With nine songs and a short 57-second interlude, the album feels a little short; however the final track on the disc does lift the time to 52 minutes after clocking in at just short of ten minutes. All nine tracks on the release are of a high and consistent level of quality; the majority having a sing-a-long chorus that at times can come off cheesy but still good nevertheless. The album contains a nice blend of speedy tracks, with a few prodding mid-paced and epic sounding songs, all with their own identity, own story and another guest on the CD showing that they were worth the selection. One of the many highlights on the disc is the amazing and energetic solos throughout each track, knowing that each one came from a different guitarist, the other major highlight is feel some songs give off, shooting you off back to the day, when this style of melodic metal/hard rock was only in baby steps and taking off like a screaming eagle.Songs on the album which will get your head nodding in approval include the utterly straightforward but uber catchy and brilliant melodic hard rock anthem “Ride the Bullet” and the mid-paced metal hymn “Let Me Die”. More top-notch tracks follow with the harder-edged “Slam Down the Hammer”, while “Dark Horizons” is a catchy and passionate, keyboard-friendly winner. Lastly, the opening song “Sirens” is an energetic, powerful and cracking track that will surely be repeated constantly.Wolfpakk aren’t reinventing the wheel here with their collaboration, and melodic metal hasn’t changed in quite some time, so don’t expect anything groundbreaking on the album. Ultimately it's what every melodic metal fan could ask for and more; with the many guests giving the CD more of a ‘best of’ compilation feel. In a very polished performance that it worth the effort of tracking down, Wolfpakk’s debut is definitely a front-runner for top melodic metal release of the year.
