Bio:

Stryper is a Christian glam metal band from Orange County, California. The group's lineup consists of Michael Sweet (lead vocals, guitar), Oz Fox (guitar), Tim Gaines (bass guitar), and Robert Sweet (drums). In 2004, Gaines left the band and was replaced by Tracy Ferrie (bass guitar) but rejoined in 2009.Formed in 1983 as Roxx Regime, the band soon changed their musical message to reflect their Christian beliefs, and the band's name was also changed to Stryper. They went on to become the first overtly Christian heavy metal band to gain acceptance in the mainstream.[2] In 1983, they signed with major label Enigma Records and released their debut album The Yellow and Black Attack. In the mid-1980s, Stryper enjoyed their most successful period beginning with the release of To Hell with the Devil, which achieved Platinum sales status. Stryper went on to release two more Gold albums before breaking up in 1992. In 2003, Stryper came out of retirement for a reunion tour and subsequently signed a multi-album contract with Big3 Records in 2005. In 2013 they signed a multi-album deal with Frontiers Records, and have released an EP, Second Coming, which includes 14 re-recorded songs from their first three albums and an album, No More Hell to Pay, released on October 15, 2013.

Album:

The very first Japanese CD version of this album. The original issue EP had only six songs, but the label went on to rerecord everything and re-release it as 8-song album by including the title track from the "Reason For The Season" single and a new song (Track 3). This Japanese CD version also had the b-side from "Reason For The Season", Winter Wonderland, included as does the Sony/CBS LP version. I think this is still one of the only CD releases with the original studio version of Winter Wonderland on it. It is also on the Michael Sweet Productions version of THWTD, but those may be the only two official CD releases in existence with Winter Wonderland, and both are now super rare. This is probably the most expensive Stryper CD (especially with original OBI) to attempt to acquire because of its rarity and the fact that most every hardcore Stryper fan wants it. It's also the only official CD version with the original missile cover art.

The Yellow and Black Attack is the first release and debut studio album from the Christian metal band Stryper. It was originally released as a six-song EP, and fewer than 20,000 copies were pressed, as their label, Enigma Records, was unsure of the potential market for Christian metal. CCM Magazine was slightly critical, citing production quality and the short length of the release, but commented that "Stryper has the promise of a major success story." According to Michael Sweet's autobiography, the album was re-recorded and released as an official album, after their first manager, Daryn Hinton, loaned them $100,000 to re-produce the record. The album initially sold 150,000 units in the first three weeks. After Stryper achieved major success with their second release and first full-length album, Soldiers Under Command, The Yellow and Black Attack EP was reissued. Re-released on August 10, 1986 with two additional songs, "Reason for the Season" (which was originally released on a 1985 Christmas-themed 12" single with "Winter Wonderland") and a new, mellowed-down version of "My Love I'll Always Show", which dates from their Roxx Regime days. The version recorded for The Yellow and Black Attack featured less obvious Christian lyrics than the one to feature on The Roxx Regime Demos.

Album:

Soldiers Under Command is the second release, and first full-length studio album from Christian metal band Stryper, released in 1985.It was the first Christian metal album to achieve Gold record status, selling more than half a million copies. The album was originally issued on white vinyl. The Live in Japan in-concert video, released in 1986, was filmed on July 8, 1985 during Stryper's tour in support of this album.A music video of the title track was released. The inspirational verse for this album is 2 Timothy 2:3-4.Stryper’s sophomore full-length is heavier, faster and is higher quality than their debut. In the 80’s Stryper played a brand of Christian hair metal also combined with traditional metal and even some speed metal. Soldiers Under Command was were everything came together for Stryper’s sound, which would finely pay off and earn them a gold status and a platinum status on their third full-length To Hell With The Devil. The songs themselves are mainly up-tempo with a few mid-tempo songs and power ballads. Speed metal is represented in songs like the title track, The Rock That Makes Me Roll, and Surrender. The rest of the songs are a hybrid between the rocking hair metal and the more traditional metal of the 70’s. Most of the song choruses are well done, entertaining, and are based around the Christian values/beliefs of Stryper. The production is top notch mixing every instrument in the mix clearly and properly.Michael Sweet is an excellent vocalist with an incredibly high range especially when he pulls off his very high pitch falsettos. He is also a gifted rhythm guitar player and provides some nice riffs throughout Soldiers Under Command. Oz Fox lead guitar is highly underrated he plays many infectious leads, riffs, and highlights ever song with a fast entertaining solo. Tim Gaine’s bass guitar is audible but like most hair metal bands just provides the back bone to every song. His keyboard work is just for atmosphere and does its job well. Robert Sweet’s drum work is great providing ever song with some entertaining fills, drum rolls, and double kick bass.Soldiers Under Command does have its flaws fortunately they are few. The ballads and power ballads are cheesy and sometimes even annoying fortunately there are only two present. As said before the bass only provides the back bone for Soldiers under Command but still lacks as much heaviness as To Hell With The Devil and Against The Law. Finally most of the songs on Soldiers Under Command could have used another riff just for the sake of each song being a bit repetitive.Soldiers Under Command is usually overlooked considering it came right before Stryper’s platinum release To Hell With The Devil. Best songs are the title track, Makes Me Wanna Sing, The Rock That Makes Me Roll, (Waiting For) A Love That’s Real, and Surrender. I highly recommend this release to any fan of Stryper traditional metal and hair metal.-5 points cheesy and annoying power ballads -3 points lighter than To Hell With The Devil and Against The Law -2 points a few more riffs to each song would have taken away from the repetitiveness factor.

Album:

To Hell with the Devil is the third studio album, by the Christian metal band Stryper, released in 1986.It was the first Christian metal album to achieve platinum status, selling over one million copies. It remained the best-selling Christian metal album until P.O.D.'s Satellite in 2001.The album was listed at No. 88 in the 2001 book, CCM Presents: The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music. The album was the only heavy metal album on the list. Ian Christe, author of the heavy metal history book Sound of the Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal (2003), mentions To Hell with the Devil in his book as one of the landmarks of the glam metal movement.Throughout 1987, both music videos for "Free" and "Honestly" ranked No. 1 on Dial MTV, the daily MTV list of most requested videos. The first single/video video for "Calling on You" also reached No. 2 on the show. "Honestly" was the biggest single from the record peaking at #23 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart. The original artwork depicted four long haired angels throwing the devil into a fiery pit. The cover was then changed on later pressings to a basic black cover with the Stryper logo and the album title in the center.According to Michael Sweet's autobiography, as the band started to record the album, Michael felt Tim Gaines wasn't the right bassist for the record. He was replaced by bassist Matt Hurich, who eventually ended up not working out. So session bassist Brad Cobb took Gaines' place while recording the album. However, before the tour began, Sweet asked Gaines to rejoin as he felt it wasn't right performing as "Stryper" without him.In 2010, HM Magazine listed To Hell with the Devil No. 3 on its Top 100 Christian Rock Albums of All Time list stating that "when this album broke, it went multi-platinum, forever raising the ceiling of what heavy Christian music could do." Heaven's Metal fanzine ranked it No. 6 on its Top 100 Christian metal albums of all-time list.

Album:

In God We Trust is the fourth studio album by Christian metal band Stryper, released in 1988. The album achieved Gold record status, selling over half a million copies.Three singles were released including "Always There For You" and "I Believe in You" which both hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart peaking at No. 71 and No. 88 respectively. The third single "Keep The Fire Burning" did not chart. The album received two GMA Dove Awards for "Hard Music Album" and "Hard Rock Song" for the title track. This album sounds like a near-complete clone of its predeceasor, it has the same elements of the songs its predecesor had: high-pitched vocals, guitar solos, and a more pop sound. What I love this album is that it sounds nearly identical to 1986's To Hell With The Devil but with a few differences: First and the most obvious is that in this album, Stryper tried to approach a more poppier sound, unlike their previous effort. Secondly, Michael sounds extremely high-pitched on this album, and that is fairly noticeable on songs like "I Believe In You" and "Lonely", compared to songs on the previous album like "Calling On You" and "The Way" which didn't fully make him sound too hich-pitched. Third, there's heavy synthesizer and synclavier programming which in my opinion makes this album shine on its own. Lastly, there's the ballads that make the album suffer for others but not for me.I have only two negatives with this album: First there's the track "Come To The Everlife". The song itself is just forgettable filled with too much heavy synth programming and has nothing redemable. Another negative I have with this album is that it is way too overproduced and has lost the raw feel Stryper's previous albums had.The songs on this album are extremely heavy featuring probably the heaviest songs Stryper ever released: The title track is full on heavy and has an incredible guitar solo which is just memorable, "Always There For You" sounds like part 3 to "Calling On You" from the previous album. "I Believe In You" is Stryper trying to write a follow-up to their biggest hit and it didn't really work sadly, though I think the song is just amazingly written and beautifully sung. And then there's "Lonely", which quite possibly could be my all-time favorite Stryper song featuring one of the greatest guitar solos I've ever heard. In my opinion I say "In God We Trust" could've easily been a Volume II to its successful heavy predecesor, and it will forever be my favorite Stryper album. If this was Stryper's last album before their breakup in 1993, this would've been the perfect temporary goodbye to them. If you're looking for a Stryper album with heavy riffs and great songs, then this is the album for you. But if you're only a fan of Stryper's hard rock songs only and don't like power ballads in general, then I recommend you totally skip this album entirely.

Can't Stop the Rock is the sixth release, and first compilation album, from the Christian metal band Stryper, released in 1991.The album features two new songs, one of which is "Believe," dedicated to the troops fighting in the Persian Gulf War that same year. In February 1992, lead singer Michael Sweet left to pursue a solo career, which marked the end of the original Stryper lineup until they reunited in 2003.Though Can't Stop the Rock isn't the last word on Stryper, it does a decent job of summarizing the Christian rockers' contributions. Drawing on five Stryper albums and providing two new songs ("Believe" and "Can't Stop the Rock"), the CD contains some essential tracks (including "To Hell with the Devil," "Free," and "Soldiers Under Command"), as well as some that listeners can do without. The saccharine, fluffy ballads "Together as One" and "Honestly" may be among Stryper's best-known songs, but neither are even a fraction as exciting as their cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's 1975 funk smash "Shining Star," included on the more comprehensive 18-track collection 7: The Best of Stryper, released in 2003. Nevertheless, if one is checking out Stryper for the first time, Can't Stop the Rock isn't a bad place to start.

Album:

In 2019 STRYPER celebrated 20 years of their website on the world wide web.To make it special they featured some exclusive content and put on sale “The Roxx Regime Demos [Limited Edition Remastered +3]“, a limited, collector’s edition of their very early recordings. Before Stryper’s major label record deals; before multi-platinum albums; before chart-topping videos; before history was made… there was Roxx Regime. In 1983 brothers Robert and Michael Sweet teamed up with high-school classmate Oz Fox and local bassist Timothy Gaines to form a band that would forever change the history of Christian rock music. The four guys released a demo under the name Roxx Regime and started playing the local Hollywood club circuit. These demos were previously released on July 7, 2007 (7-7-7) on CD. Now this remastered version feature the eight original tracks… plus three demos that have never been released. If you think ‘demos’ can’t be improved… well, in fact these were professionally recorded songs, and when you have multi-track tapes, expert hands can make miracles.Production was limited to only 1,000 copies and features new cover artwork. This extremely limited-edition release was also pressed on colored vinyl… of course, all CD’s & LP’s are sold out now.Roxx Regime eventually caught the ears of Enigma Records and soon afterward would change their name to Stryper and release their first national album, ‘The Yellow And Black Attack’. Stryper would go on to sell millions and millions of records and tour the world sharing their music. Before all of this however, there was The Roxx Regime demo. There are no over-dubs or re-recordings. This is the way Stryper sounded, before they were Stryper; raw, natural, and destined to change the history of ’80s rock music.“These recordings showcase us in our rawest form from the very beginning,” says Michael. “The songs were tracked at Casbah Studios with Chaz Ramirez in Fullerton before we became Stryper. They show the transformation from being just another metal band on LA’s street scene to a band who went on to inspire and change the world.” Regarding the three alternate early demos, Michael states: “As you can hear, the lyrics changed a bit after these recordings. We have a lot of great memories from that time in our lives and careers, and we are happy to get to share a snapshot of that period through this release.”Be aware there’s fake versions of this remastered version floating the web … this is the real one.

Album:

No More Hell to Pay is the fifteenth release and tenth studio album from Christian glam metal band Stryper, produced by band frontman Michael Sweet and released on November 5, 2013 by Frontiers Records. The album garnered positive critical reception from music critics as well as commercial success.I’ll let the cat out of the bag right away: Stryper’s “No More Hell To Pay” is an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable release that seems to be channeling a lot of the same hard rocking power and sound the band flaunted on “To Hell With The Devil” in 1986. “. Actually, the most surprising thing about Stryper in 2013 might be that they sound harder, heavier, and arguably even better than they did in the 80s. It’s impressive enough for any band to stick it out for 30 years like Stryper has done, and to do it with the original lineup, and rocking out with this kind of power and energy is quite a feat.Of course Stryper is still a Christian band, something that certainly comes through in the lyrics and the song titles, and while I confess that I don’t share Stryper’s religious convictions, that did not interfere with my enjoyment of this album.“No More Hell To Pay” blasts off to the skies with “Revelation”, featuring all the things I like best about this album: a huge sound with an almost epic glow to it, stellar vocals by Michael Sweet, and some dazzling and dextrous guitar work. Same goes for the title track “No More Hell to Pay”, which is definitely one of my fave tracks here: so satisfyingly heavy and hard rocking, with some glitz, glam, and gloss weaved into it as well. There’s a guitar-powered, heavy-metal shine to all the tracks on “No More Hell To Pay”, and that’s a good thing: the harder Stryper rocks, the better in my opinion. On “Legacy” they go all out, with a terrific Judas Priest vibe to the vocals and the music: that wail, that aggressive edge to the vocals, that rough and tough guitar muscle, and those huge, crashing drums. It’s pretty darn glorious.Stryper“Marching into Battle” is tremendous as well, and might be the best tune here, with some beautifully throbbing bass beneath the great drums and guitar, and with some glorious heavy metal wailing by Sweet towards the end. Other standout tunes include the turbo powered, glammed up hair rocker “Water Into Wine”, and “Sympathy” with its roaring guitar, and the vocals and drums going full tilt. While the hard and heavy stuff is what I like the best, Stryper puts in some fine work on the slower tunes too. For me, the best example is “The One” is a strong and shiny tune with a real retro-80s tone, leaning towards the glossier shades of the band’s old material. Also, the cover of “Jesus Is Just Alright” works well, giving this hooky tune a hard rocking makeover.“No More Hell To Pay” proves that Stryper has not mellowed with time. Instead they have honed their skills and amped up the quality and the strength of their music. For old fans: you know you’ll be checking this out. For everyone else: break out your air guitar and your air drums and check out the heavenly hard rock Stryper is capable of in 2013.

In 2013 they signed a multi-album deal with Frontiers Records, and have released an EP, Second Coming, which includes 14 re-recorded songs from their first three albums and an album, No More Hell to Pay, released on October 15, 2013.

Album:

"Fallen", the new album from STRYPER, will be released worldwide on Friday, October 16 via Frontiers. The CD was tracked at SpiritHouse Recording Studios in Northampton, Massachusetts and will include a cover version of the BLACK SABBATH classic "After Forever".30-second audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on "Fallen" have been posted on Amazon and can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The first song from "Fallen", "Yahweh", which was co-written by SEVENDUST guitarist Clint Lowery, will be made available the week of July 6.The cover artwork for "Fallen", which can be seen below, was designed by Stanis Decker, who worked with STRYPER on 2013's "No More Hell To Pay". STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet says: "We sent Stanis the concept about Lucifer being cast out of heaven and he sent us this amazing illustration, capturing the original idea perfectly. We're excited to be able to finally show all of you!"Sweet recently stated about the musical direction of "Fallen": "It's gonna be… I don't wanna scare any fans away or anything, but it's gonna be the heaviest album we've done. Not in the sense that it's gonna be thrash metal or anything like that. It's definitely got a little bit of a darker vibe to it lyrically and musically. Some of the songs are tuned down — not like the modern Drop B stuff; I'm talking like the E dropped to D, 'Unchained' VAN HALEN kind of stuff. And it's just got a heavy sound to it. And I think when people hear it, in a good way, they're gonna go, 'That's STRYPER? What?' I think they're gonna be shocked."He added: "The album was written and arranged very quickly (9-10 days, actually). This by no means reflects on the quality of the album. It's some of our best material to date and so far those who have heard it have said the very same. Chris Jericho [FOZZY singer and WWE wrestling superstar] texted me and said that 'Yahweh' may be the best song since reuniting."There are songs on this album that coincide with sitting down and reading the bible."The music is heavy and the lyrics are bold and powerful, some taken right from scriptures."Sonically, I think this is our best-sounding album to date! Everything is crystal clear. The highs are crisp and the lows are tight and punchy. The more I listen, the more excited I am for all of you to hear it!!!"

Album:

This year will also bring Stryper back on the road, where they'll have a chance to connect with fans, new and old. The line-up still features three of the original members, including singer songwriter Michael Sweet, his brother and drummer Robert Sweet and guitarist Oz Fox. Recently, the band welcomed iconic bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of FireHouse), who will be joining them on tour."We're excited about the next season of Stryper", says Sweet. "We have the best fans in the world and the band is at the top of its game musically and spiritually. We look forward to seeing everyone on the road."In a world where Christianity has become a four letter work, Stryper are kicking against the pricks with their new record God Damn Evil out 4/20/18 via Frontiers Music s.r.l. The funny title should serve the dual purpose of pissing off the more pious contingent of their fan base, while reaffirming a commitment to stand true to their moral convictions. While the infamous “J” word only explicitly finds its way into 1 of the LPs 11 tracks, the group continues to espouse their Christian convictions, albeit with a slightly subtler message. More importantly, they remain true to their own musical vision with a collection of middling to great songs rooted in melodic metal with nods to both old school metal and more modern influences. In the press release for God Damn Evil, the band alludes to this being their heaviest LP to date. While this is highly debatable, I will concede that with a few exceptions, the best songs on here are the heavier and darker ones. “Lost” with its driving rhythm, symphonic falsetto-laced chorus and trademark harmonized leads is an early standout—also, bonus points for the word “tonightmare.” “You Don’t Even Know,” a condemnation of condemnation, begins with a throwback riff that wouldn’t be out of place on 1986’s seminal To Hell with the Devil, before morphing into an effective melodic, alternative rocker. On “The Valley,” one of the best things here, the group steers directly into classic metal territory to excellent effect with a riff that takes inspiration from Black Sabbath’s “Heaven and Hell”—which they covered on 2015’s The Covering. These weightier tracks benefit from a bass heavy mix which punctuates the interplay between drummer Robert Sweet and very capable newcomer Perry Richardson (Firehouse) on bass, and succeeds in spite of its modern-metal dynamics-starved bent. While the band’s willingness to try new things is admirable, some of these experiments fall flat. “Take it to the Cross,” is probably the heaviest thing here, but it is also the biggest misstep. inclusion of some completely out of place death growls by Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall), comes across as forced, and while I don’t doubt the sincerity of the lyrics, the “Take it to the cross! Take it to the cross!” chorus is a little tacky.Elsewhere, Stryper channels AC/DC via hair-metal on the title track. With its shout along chorus and extended lead break, it’s a reminder of how fun hard-rock was in the 80s; however, like “Take it to the Cross,” it suffers from some (likely intentional) over-the-top lyrics. It’s no secret that singer/guitarist Michael Sweet and co-guitarist Oz Fox are talented guitarists. Nowhere is that more apparent than on “Can’t Live Without,” a ballad that taps into the bands inner adult contemporary, in which they choose the most unlikely of places to double-down on their virtuosity. On paper, Stryper’s take on a modern love song replete with extended solo breaks sounds disastrous, but in reality, the straightforward and subtle nature of the song really allows their attention to detail in song-craft and musicianship to shine through.Stryper’s ‘God Damn Evil’ is the restless sound of a band in the midst of a minor musical identity crisis. The record is at its best when the band filters their back catalog through a slightly modern metallic alternative-rock lens, but overall it suffers from overreach. Despite these shortcomings, it succeeds in making a joyful noise, as its majestic melodies, divine musicianship and righteous guitar playing pull the set heavenwards.

Album:

In conjunction with the STRYPER's current shows in Japan, Marquee / Avalon in arrangement with Victor Entertainment has released few days ago this "God Damn Evil [SHM-CD Japan Tour Edition +3]", a limited collectors version including three bonus tracks and exclusively pressed on high quality SHM-CD.The last decade of STRYPER's career has been quite prolific, and this year they delivered the strong "God Damn Evil".When Stryper’s landmark 'To Hell With The Devil' hit MTV hard, many churchgoers were divided about their big hair, spandex jumpsuits, and heavy guitars. They gave us license to rock for the rock, as they liked to say.Target practice was easy for the naysayers. The drastic heights of the aquanet hair. The iconic eyesore of the yellow and black attack wardrobe and staging. The saccharine sweet ballads that brought ladies out to a metal show.Love them or hate them, Stryper was doing their own thing.More than 30 years later, they still are.The fashion, hair, and ballads have all been toned down, but the guitars have been cranked up. Lead singer Michael Sweet has traded his feminine-sounding falsetto to claim his place among the upper echelon of stratospheric screamers like Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson. The guys are confounding middle age gravity with insane vocal ranges."God Damn Evil" is the third part of the band’s trilogy of studio albums for Frontier Records, and Stryper has rewarded the label's faith in them by delivering a trifecta of heavy, punchy, memorable metal records that stand up to — if not out power — the best of their entire catalog. The opening track 'Take It to the Cross', also released as the first single, surprised many. It's really heavy, where they took a shot at adding an element of thrash and death growls but ended up losing the sound of Stryper. Sweet has responded to the mixed reaction that they wanted to try something new and had a blast doing it. So, there’s that. The second track, however, rights all wrongs. “Sorry” is a fierce, plodding hard rocker that showcases the things that really work on this record: chunky, melodic rhythm guitars with soaring solos, fat, thumping drums that are loud in the mix, heavy, catchy compositions and Sweet’s distinguished voice that sounds amazing most of the time. The title track is a mid-tempo rowdy romp with an extended solo section that’s pretty heavenly. Whether it’s a prayer or just a way to give people something to talk about, Sweet seems to be enjoying himself immensely in the chorus wailing, “God save the people, but God damn the world!”.“You Don’t Even Know” is a tight rocker that’s reminiscent of classic '80s hard rock in both function and form, while “The Valley” contains all the elements of this new and improved Stryper, with a wah-wah heavy solo fits right alongside the huge, shiny background vocals that sound like a metal choir.“Sea of Thieves” is a blistering, bluesy jaunt that’s got a triumphant chorus that was built for fists in the air live. “Beautiful” stands out with an angular verse that sounds like old school Dokken. The closest thing to a power ballad on the record is “Can’t Live Without Your Love,” which is a slower tempo song with enough crunch and movement to keep it out of the saccharine territory.“Own Up” is another strong, in-your-face rocker that features enough cowbell to keep Christopher Walken happy for hours of studio time. The closing track, “The Devil Doesn’t Live Here,” is a Van Halen's 'Hot for Teacher' knock-off that trades schoolboy fantasy lyrics for a sermon and some amazing screams.Haters will hate and some people will exercise their own form of prejudice by dismissing Stryper because they are anything but subtle about their faith. But regardless of where you stand on the lyrics, there’s no denying that songwriting and production on "God Damn Evi" is excellent, and the performances are inspired.Stryper is rocking so hard and well that even some close-minded skeptics are bound to be converted.Stryper 2018 is 'adult metal', and I am not talking about the lyrics (honestly, I don't care religion) but the music. These skilled musicians combine like few razor metallic riffs with commercial melodies, and they does it very, very well.As said, this is the only version of "God Damn Evil" pressed on SHM-CD for the moment, plus 3 bonus, a collectors item.

Album:

Once again proving their lasting durability, iconic rock band Stryper returns with studio album #13, "Even the Devil Believes". Filled with the band’s signature riffs, harmony-laden melodies and positive themes, the 11-track project is Stryper’s first studio album with Perry Richardson (FireHouse) on bass and background vocals.“We’re incredibly happy to write a new chapter in the book of Stryper”, says vocalist/guitarist Michael Sweet, who has served as the band’s primary songwriter since its inception in 1983. “This album was recorded during the pandemic and I believe the message pertains to the times we are living in so perfectly. It’s a recording of hope and inspiration and a light in the darkest of times.” Sweet, who also produced the new album, revealed that the band members delivered focused determination, a collaborative spirit and spot-on execution for the new record. The result is a collection of remarkable songs that will leave a strong impact on listeners.“It has an energy unlike any other album we’ve done”, he asserts. “We even pulled a song from the past that has never been heard or released, and by doing so, we brought a little bit of 1989 back into the mix.”“The music and lyrics are rock-solid”, says Sweet. “God really blessed this one and hopefully it will bless everyone who hears it as well.”Stryper is renowned for its distinctive brand of heavenly metal, extraordinary crossover success and venerable endurance. The band ascended to prominence in the 80s with Billboard Top 40 hits like “Calling On You”, “Honestly” and “Always There For You” and has maintained a global fan base ever since. Stryper is the first band to ever have two songs in MTV’s Top 10 simultaneously with their hits “Free” and “Honestly.” To date, the Dove Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated band has sold over 10 million albums worldwide.Today, some 35+ years after emerging from the southern California night club scene, the foursome continues to record, tour and perform for loyal fans around the world. Comprised of original members Michael Sweet (lead vocals, guitar), Robert Sweet (drums) and Oz Fox (guitar), plus the addition of seasoned bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of FireHouse), the band finds itself creating its finest, most powerful music yet.

Album:

Legendary, long-running heavy metallers Stryper are set to return with a brand-new studio album, "The Final Battle"! Firmly continuing the trend established over the last few albums, "The Final Battle" sees the band growing heavier while also maintaining the trademark melodies, virtuoso guitar playing and air tight rhythms. "The Final Battle" was crafted during the most challenging time of the band's career. While they suffered the same setbacks faced by all artists during the course of the global pandemic, the band also had to contend with Oz Fox's ongoing battle with brain tumors and for Michael Sweet, a detached retina which required multiple medical procedures, the use of an eye patch, and limited mobility for stretches of time. But rather than let the adversity get them down, the band accepted these challenges and channeled it into writing some of the greatest songs of their storied career. Defying all logic, "The Final Battle" somehow manages to best its immediate predecessors, "No More Hell To Pay" (2013), "Fallen" (2015), "God Damn Evil" (2018) and "Even The Devil Believes" (2020), continuing the band's unprecedented late career streak of releasing arguably the best albums of their multi-decade career. How do they do it? Well, we may never know the answer, but we can be thankful that the gift of musical inspiration continues to find them as they consistently share their musical fountain of youth with heavy metal lovers around the globe. When it comes to groundbreaking bands in the metal genre, Stryper is renowned for their distinctive brand of 'heavenly metal', extraordinary crossover success and venerable endurance. The band ascended to prominence in the 80s with Billboard Top 40 hits like "Calling On You", "Honestly" and "Always There For You" and had maintained a global fan base since. Stryper's career album sales exceed 10 million worldwide, including 1986's multi platinum release "To Hell With The Devil". The band also made history when it notched two songs simultaneously in MTV's Top 10 with videos "Free" and "Honestly". While Stryper is known for their Christian faith, the decades plus career in heavy metal has made them much more than just a 'Christian metal' band. Sure, that is part of who they are, but at the end of the day, they are simply a long-running and well respected heavy metal band with a late career rebirth that has proved their enduring talent and musical skills are well intact. Today, some 37+ years after emerging from the southern California night club scene, the foursome continues to record, tour and perform for loyal fans around the globe. Comprising three original members, including the brothers Michael (lead vocals, guitar) and Robert Sweet (drums), Oz Fox (guitar) and newest bandmate, seasoned bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of FireHouse), the group finds itself creating its finest, most powerful music yet.

Album:

Eighties legendary white metal act STRYPER has just released “Acousticyzed“, the band’s first acoustic album and video recorded at SpiritHouse Studios in 2021.This is a very limited pressing collector’s edition and features 11 beautifully recorded fan-favorites and hits like ‘Soldiers Under Command’, ‘Loud & Clear’, Honestly’, etc, including a never before heard version of the spiritual classic ‘Amazing Grace’.“Acousticyzed” is not available on streaming services – only physical format – and is about to sold out.
The recording feature original members Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet, Oz Fox – along with long-time member Perry Richardson on acoustic bass. Produced by Michael Sweet, “Acousticyzed” sounds fantastic, with the band inspired delivering emotive performances.
“Acousticyzed” features the whole band, which means that, while the guitars are acoustic, the sound is still quite powerful. In fact, Michael Sweet’s lead vocals are at full on most of the songs. If you were wanting a quiet evening with Stryper, this is not – Stryper rocks, always. After all, Stryper is a metal band, and if the full band is present and the songs are delivered with such power, is there really a point to performing with acoustic instruments? The answer is an unplugged but resounding yes, and here’s why…The first reason why this is an album to own can be stated with two words: Oz Fox. Oz simply wows with his Latin-influenced solos. We hear this distinctly in “You Know What To Do,” “Soldiers Under Command,” “Loud & Clear,” and in the opening to “All For One.” His solos goes in interesting directions, even with a hint of a western feel in “Make You Mine,” and his opening to the classic “Honestly” is simply beautiful and utterly unlike the original, which leads us to the next reason ”Acousticyzed” should be in your collection. There may never be a rendition as completely changed and yet equally as wonderful as the original as is Clapton’s unplugged “Layla,” yet the changes Stryper brings to many of these songs do make them worth listening to as genuinely separate compositions from the originals.Michael Sweet brings a novel solo to “Soldiers Under Command,” and although his solo on “No More Hell To Pay” is based on the album version, it heads into different places.Nowhere, however, are the differences more significant than on “Honestly.” Oz kicks the song off with a gorgeous opening unlike the original. Michael follows with beautiful, but different, guitar phrasing and a haunting vocal style unlike anything we have heard on any Stryper record. He pulls back the power of his vocals before soaring into the chorus, and when it comes time for his guitar solo, it is wonderfully different from the original. What the guys do with “Amazing Grace” makes this a standout track on the album. It is laidback, utterly cool, and with even a hint of a country feel at times. Robert Sweet on drums and Perry Richardson on bass lay a solid foundation on which to build, and the whole song gives ample proof of why Stryper should do a Southern Gospel album, a Black Gospel album, an album of hymns, or all of the above. And if that were not enough to convince you that you need this album if only for this song, Michael’s solo and Oz’s solo each brings out what music-reaction-YouTuber Jamel_AKA_Jamal calls “stank face maximus”… you know, when the music just twists the face of the listener into an expression of “awwww, yeah!” Yeah, Stryper is metal band, but most of these songs born on acoustic guitar.Whether you would have imagined it or not, “Make You Mine,” “Lady,” “Always There For You,” and “All For One” sound fantastic as acoustic versions, with “Always There For You” and “Lady” being exceptional.“Lady,” a gorgeous ballad that may have been overshadowed by “Honestly” back in the day, was a welcome return in their live setlist in 2018 and is simply perfect here. One can imagine, had this acoustic version come out thirty years ago, a black and white video of it similar to Extreme’s “More Than Words.” It would have dominated MTV.Grab Acousticyzed now before it sells out. It deserves a place in the collection of any Stryper fan or of anyone who enjoys acoustic renditions of great rocks songs.
