Album:

NITROGODS came about between ex members of Thunderhead and Primal Fear, with the addition of bassist/vocalist Oimel Larcher. Their new album “Rats And Rumours” is a pure and straight up Rock n Roll album with throaty vocals, rocking riffs and a thumping rhythm section.Opening up with title track “Rats And Rumours” I was very much reminded of Motorhead with some meaty fast guitar riffs and some very gritty sounding lead vocals. This is a great track to get heads nodding quick right at the beginning of the album, with a great catchy chorus. “Got Pride” follows this up with more of the band’s high energy rock sound, with a really great main riff and some pounding drums throughout. “Irish Honey” feels like a really heavy version of something The Clash might have done, with stabbing guitar riffs and winding basslines.This is a hard rocking album throughout from bluesier material like “Ramblin’ Broke” which has a bit of a NAZARETH vibe to the vocals with heavier riffage backing it, to songs that border on surf rock like “Automobile.” It’s all pretty good stuff, and the band has quite a diverse sound, keeping their own sense of style but changing it up plenty enough between songs to keep it interesting throughout its 43 minute runtime.One of my highlights was “Back Home” which combines some great vocal delivery with some great rock guitar riffs. There’s also an awesome guitar and bass duel about midway through the song that sounded great and showcased the individual talents of the members well, followed up by some great riffs and solos too. “BMW” is also a pretty great track with lots of high octane riffs throughout.The album closes on “Whiskey Supernova” which has a great furious riff to kick things into motion for the last track. This one is great, with thunderous drums, some great bass playing, awesome riffs and roaring vocals. This finishes the album on a very energetic and fun note, with a solid chorus too, ending on an epic crescendo.The production is pretty solid, and everything can be heard fairly well as the album goes on. The vocals and guitars sound the best here, but the drum sound is very good as is the bass.“Rats And Rumours” is a very good album from Nitrogods¸ with plenty on offer for those who like old school Rock n Roll produced in a more forward thinking way.

I’m not sure why the Nitrogods included a bonus CD of Motorhead covers in their boxset, as this release could’ve very well been Lemmy & co themselves! Indeed, this 3rd album is dedicated to their fallen heros like the iconic frontman as well as Quo’s Rick Parfitt, not to mention other inspirations like The Who. A regular touring band especially in Europe, Nitrogods are often dismissed by some as a nondescript biker rock band despite being formed by ex Primal Fear guitarist Henry Wolter and including Freedom Call drummer Klaus Sperling. However, “Roadkill BBQ” has what it takes to dispel that notion once and for all. On this 3rd album, the band have clearly stepped it up several gears from upping their musicianship to most of all, some amazing songs that show a deeper level of composition without taking away the attraction of their bad ass motorcycle rock. With bassist Oimel Larcher unashamedly paying homage to Lemmy in his vocal style and strummed bass on ‘Wheelin”, Sperling obliges with double bass drumming and Wolter shows he’s learned a thing from Eddie Clarke’s prior guest slot with his snazzy lead breaks on this prime piece of fast n catchy boogie biker rock while on ‘My Love’s A Wirebrush’ the excellent slide guitar and rock n roll rhymes definitely evoke memories of Rose Tattoo in their glory days. Keeping it simple but deadly like Motorhead’s snake rattle n roll meeting ZZ Top in a dusty pueblo comes ‘A Los Muertos’, very slick in its polished riffs along with its deep n catchy chorus, even through Larcher’s tequila fried vocals. Continuing in fine style guitar comes the anthemic ‘The Price Of Liberty’, a slow but moving piece evoking memories of Ted Nugent especially with its wailing guitar complementing its passionate chorus. Best for me though, was ‘Boogeyman’, a dark heavy chugging rocker with its ultra cool n catchy swaggering chorus along with Wolters adding gem like melodies and once again, a devastating slide guitar to bring it all home on what must be Nitrogods best album ever. If you don’t know these guys then definitely check ’em out on this release!

Look no further, get the new NITROGODS album “Rebel Dayz“.There’s nothing quite like straightforward, hard rock ‘n’ roll. Especially when you have seasoned players in the mix like ex-Primal Fear members guitarist/vocalist Henny Wolter and drummer Klaus Sperling – who felt the need with vocalist/bassist Claus ‘Oimel’ Larcher to develop a power trio formula in Nitrogods.They’ve released three albums since forming in 2012 – moving up to headliner ranks in GAS territories (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) setting the stage to full-length four for Rebel Dayz.Written, recorded, and self-produced, these gentlemen continue to crank those anthems up to ten, resonating in that bluesy/whiskey-laden platform that put Motörhead, Nazareth, and other energetic artists into the hearts of fans during the 70s, 80s and beyond.Nothing fancy about this material – the hooks come quick, the choruses basic and addictive, while the music just blasts easily from your favored listening device to cause head shaking, foot tapping, spasmodic body swings.Between Claus’ gravel/Lemmy-soaked voice and Henry’s occasional lead vocal supplementation (think a lower register Dave Grohl), the diversity brings many shining moments for “Zoom the Broom” on through to the more commercial-oriented “415 DV”.Henry gravitates towards those bristling power chords that send shivers, Claus and Klaus falling into line to accent the transitions while the axe man delivers thoughtful, bluesy breaks that mesmerize as “Get Lost” and “Go Fast” (the latter using some bottleneck slide accents) become easy standouts.For many bands, fourteen songs on a record would be four too many – when it comes to Nitrogods, the material just whirls by in tight three to four-minute windows that you can’t get bored, as the next idea churns a different combination of chords and tempo angles that appeases. Drinking, cars, good times – these are the topics that generate the most satisfaction for the band, as “Blind as a Stone” and “Walk the Track” illustrate.Considering the demise of Motörhead and unknown recording status of AC/DC at present, Nitrogods fill that gap with new songs and old-school attitude quite nicely. “Rebel Dayz” hits at the heart of hard rock and early metal fans alike, providing smooth tunes to ease your worries and bring a smile to your face.

After more than 10 years of playing and touring, NITROGODS felt that it was about time to release a live album. The songs on this live double album were recorded by Jacky Lee Man, sound guy of Saxon, during two live shows in Berlin and Hannover, Germany, in 2019. Needless to say, that there was plenty of great material to fill a double album with a lot of rock 'n' roll.The album was mixed and mastered by a good friend of the band, Stefan Leibing (former guitarist of Primal Fear), who made sure that it became an incredibly powerful masterpiece that captures the power of the band's live sets perfectly. It is an album that was forged in the spirit of the classic 70's and early 80's live double albums NITROGODS used to love when they were young.
