Bio:

Heavens Edge are a glam hard rock band from Philadelphia active in the late eighties and early 1990s. The band reunited with all original members in 2013 and has played occasional shows since then. Heavens Edge formed in 1987 in Philadelphia and was founded by guitarist Reggie Wu and singer Mark Evans. The band went through several guitar player changes in its earlier days. Heaven's Edge released 2 albums: Heavens Edge (1990) for Columbia Records, that reached number 141 on The Billboard 200, and Some Other Place Some Other Time (1999) on MTM. Heavens Edge was produced by Neil Kernon. The band released a music video for their most popular single, "Skin To Skin". During recording of their second album, also with producer Neil Kernon Heaven's Edge signed a new record deal with MTM Records in 1998 and were asked to record a new album. The album was originally scheduled to be released in 1992 but wasn't finished until 1998 when a couple of new songs were written and recorded. Their second album, Some Other Place, Some Other Time included both the 2nd album sessions with Neil Kernon and the new 1998 songs, and was released by MTM Music in Europe, Pony Canyon in Japan, and Perris Records in the United States. The US version had a different cover and six additional demo tracks as bonus. A year after the album's release, Heaven's Edge was asked to record a song for the Mötley Crüe "Kickstart My Heart Tribute Album". The band recorded a cover of "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)".One night while performing at the Empire Rock Club in Philadelphia, the bassist George "G.G." Guidotti was shot in the abdomen by a disgruntled bar patron angry about being turned away by the club bouncer. After the band split, some of the band members formed the band American Pie with a new singer. American Pie recorded one demo and played live but never released an official album. In October 2013, a reunited Heaven's Edge played the Firefest festival in Nottingham, UK, a sold out show in Philly at World Cafe as well as the M3 Festival in MD and MelodicRock Fest in Chicago in 2014. 2015 they will be on the Monsters of Rock Cruise.

Album:

A superb sophomore effort, almost as good as the band's phenomenal debut. The album's opening track "Rock Steady" immediately reveals that HEAVENS EDGE still knows what great melodic metal is all about. No modern flavoring here, just sizzling guitars, lots of hooks, catchy choruses, and layers of backing vocals, complete with a clean, sharp production.'Some other place' is melodic bliss, 'Jacky' is probably my fave and simply perfect melodic hard rock, 'Jump on it' and 'Backseat driver' and 'Call my Name' are all flawless bits of great catchy commercial hard rock, 'Cuts both ways' is cool hard rock!! For melodic hard rock lovers, this band will definitely take you to the edge of heaven !! This album has hooks, bridges and choruses embedded everywhere. Lead vocalist Mark Evens has a great voice pitched somewhere between Honeymoon Suite and Firehouse.Heaven's Edge is glam hard rock band from the early '90s, consisting of members Reggie Wu (guitars, keyboards), Mark Evans (vocals), David Rath (drums), Steven Parry (guitars), and George "G.G." Guidotti (bass). Formed in April of 1987 in Philadelphia, PA, the quintet specialized in the same style of music that such bands as Mötley Crüe, Ratt, and Poison had taken to the top of the charts and a demo led to a recording contract with Columbia Records. The group issued a self-titled debut in 1990 (which was overseen by renowned heavy metal producer Neil Kernon [Dokken, Queensrÿche]), but shortly after release, the group split from Columbia. Heaven's Edge reunited upon being signed by the European label MTM and for the USA label Perris Records they finished up tracks that were left unfinished back in 1992, issuing it under the title of Some Other Place/Some Other Time in 1999. Overall a great solid melodic rock album with enough hooks for the AOR fans and enough of the good ol' hard rocking 80's for the die hards. If you own the debut album, this will be much loved.

Album:

One of the most underrated and most awesome bands emerged from the late '80s US scene was without a doubt HEAVENS EDGE. This Rock Candy remastered reissue of their self-titled debut truly makes justice to this terrific album, including 3 bonus tracks.Who is to blame when you have a great high quality record being released on a major label, but somehow it doesn’t become the success it was destined for? Well, it happened to a lot of bands during the period 1987 – 1991. The problem becomes inevitable with so many new releases in the market that a lot of acts are being overlooked. So many great bands were dropped by their recording labels after just one album and now several years later most of these releases are being held as Classics in the Melodic Rock and AOR genre.A fine example is the 1990 debut album of Pennsylvania based Heavens Edge. These guys had it all and could have easily followed the footsteps of White Lion, Dokken or Bon Jovi, but changes within their recording label organization (Columbia) made it impossible to achieve their fifteen minutes of fame.Heavens Edge did record more stuff and played live like any other band, but eventually after Grunge had crushed into the music world it was all too late and the band gave up the ghost.Renowned British producer Neil Kernon (Dokken, Queensryche, Autograph, etc) was tapped to produce, resulting in a bumper selection of loud and proud melodic hard rock anthems such as 'Bad Reputation', 'Skin to Skin', the kick-ass 'Can't Catch Me' and the superb 'Come Play the Game'' should have been smash hits on FM rock radio and MTV.There's a killer midtempo in 'Find Another Way' with some AOR touches, while 'Hold On to Tonight' is a fantastic pure '80s ballad. All tracks that are easily comparable to their contemporaries bringing to mind a delicious blend of Bon Jovi, Ratt and Dokken; fiery melodic rock with a finger firmly on the trigger all wrapped up in production to die for. This "Heavens Edge" digital remastering by Rock Candy sounds picture perfect, also making you wonder what went wrong, because this band should have been massive and enjoy the same success as for example Warrant, Trixter and Firehouse in and around 1990.An album that is full hooks galore, Melodic Hard Rock at its very best plenty of crunching but catchy guitars in every song, superb sing-along choruses that grab you on the first listen, and huge layered backing vocals.Additionally, you have 3 bonus tracks, songs recorded by Heavens Edge for a second that never was.A MANDATORY album in your US Melodic Hard Rock collection.

Album:

Frontiers Music Srl is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of a long-awaited new studio album, "Get It Right" from Philadelphia hard rockers Heavens Edge. This will be their first official release since 1998, when the demos and other rarities, considered the band’s second album, "Some Other Place, Some Other Time" were put out. Original members Reggie Wu (guitars, keyboards), Mark Evans (vocals), David Rath (drums) and Steven Parry (guitars) are joined by newest member, bassist Jaron Gulino (Tantric, Mach 22), who joined the band after the tragic passing of original bassist George G.G. Guidott.Formed in Philadelphia, PA in 1987 with original band members Reggie Wu (guitars, keyboards), Mark Evans (vocals), David Rath (drums), Steven Parry (guitars) and George G.G. Guidott (bass), Heavens Edge immediately began performing on the local club circuit and surrounding areas. Gigging at well-known venues in the rock and metal scene in Philly such as The Empire Rock Club, The Galaxy and The Trocadero, with nearby prestigious venues Hammerjacks (Baltimore, MD) and the 9:30 Club (Washington, D.C.) becoming regular stops for the group, the band began smashing attendance records and rapidly gaining the attention of local press and radio. The European press started to take note as well, with Metal Forces Magazine publishing features on the band’s building notoriety and Japan's world famous Burrn! Magazine giving them significant coverage as well. While the 80s metal scene was in full swing, the greater Philadelphia, PA/New Jersey region had already produced mega acts such as Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Skid Row and Britny Fox and labels were on the hunt for exactly what Heavens Edge was delivering. In a flurry of label activity from all the major players in the rock world, Heavens Edge secured a recording agreement with Columbia Records. Unfortunately, soon after the band was signed, a crazed gunman entered a club the band was playing in and randomly opened fire, striking bass player George G.G. Guidotti. G.G. was hospitalized and required months of rehabilitation to get back into playing shape. All of this delayed the commencement of the album recording for months and slowed the band's momentum. With G.G. on the mend, Heavens Edge entered the studio in the fall of 1989 and recorded their self-titled debut album with producer Neil Kernon (Dokken, Queensrÿche, Judas Priest). Well-received tracks like “Skin To Skin,” “Find Another Way” and “Play Dirty” were all included and in keeping with their reputation for exciting live shows, a live recording of the song “Is That All You Want” was added to the album. BTW, this track was originally recorded during a live radio broadcast on the powerhouse local Philly FM rock station WMMR. With album artwork and a music video for the first single “Skin To Skin” ready to go, Columbia Records released the album in the spring of 1990. The reviews were immediately favorable and the band hit the road with dates in Los Angeles, Boston, Baltimore and many other cities. Heavens Edge was added to the Ronnie James Dio/Yngwie Malmsteen tour, culminating with a seminal performance at The Spectrum in Philadelphia. The next few years for Heavens Edge saw significant changes. The band was yet another victim of the well-documented shift in popular music tastes of the early 90s and made a label move from Columbia to Capitol Records, as well a guitarist change from Steve Parry to Jimmy Marciano, all of which lead to uncertainty within the group. Live audiences still supported the band, but the industry at large seemed ready to move on from the entire culture that preceded the new era of baby-boomer-influenced dark rock music. After some time seeking their place in a shrinking market, the band called it quits in 1993. Each of the band members pursued various music ventures. Reggie, George and David teamed up with vocalist Shawn Carmen and formed the band American Pie. Jimmy Marciano joined Dean Davidson’s (Britny Fox) new band Black Eyed Susan. Steven linked up with Tangier vocalist Bill Madsen to form Madsen/Parry. Mark played several solo acoustic shows in European markets and midwestern US cities. None of these ventures achieved the same level of success as Heavens Edge.Though not formally together, the band inked a deal in 1998 with European label MTM and US label Perris Records and released demos and other rarities considered the band’s second album "Some Other Place, Some Other Time". This album includes previously unreleased self-titled album B-sides “Rock Steady Rock” and “Just Another Fire” along with the songs “Jacky” and “Some Other Place”, which were recorded as demos for Capitol Records. The next twenty years of activity for the band was not much more than the occasional benefit performance or appearance by an individual band member at various events. This was all until 2013’s official reunion show with the original line up at Firefest in Nottingham, UK. The event proved so successful that the guys continued the live show momentum with performances on The Monsters Of Rock Cruise, the Melodic Rock Festival in Chicago and main-stage sets at M3 in the Baltimore, MD area. They soon returned to their home market with sold-out headline shows at the legendary TLA, Trocadero, and World Café Live. Then tragedy struck again with the diagnosis of lung cancer for G.G. in 2019. He sadly passed away in August of that same year. The band assumed they would never play as Heavens Edge again. It wasn’t until bassist Jaron Gulino (Tantric, Mach 22) and Mark Evans became acquainted that the idea of continuing as Heavens Edge became a reality. Jaron rehearsed with the group and immediately locked in with the band. A live performance with the band on The Monsters Of Rock Cruise soon followed and Heavens Edge now officially had a new member in Jaron Gulino. Now that the band was in-tact and the audiences were turning up, it was again time for the band to draw the attention of record companies. In 2022, Heavens Edge signed a new global recording deal with Frontiers Music Srl and will release their first studio album in twenty-five years in 2023, "Get It Right".
