Bio:

Wild Horses were a British rock band, active during the late 1970s and early 1980s.Wild Horses was formed in the summer of 1978 by ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson and ex-Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain. At an early stage, the line-up featured former Stone the Crows and Wings guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and former Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones, but eventually stabilized with the addition of drummer Clive Edwards (ex-Pat Travers, Uli Roth) and guitarist/keyboardist Neil Carter (ex-Wilder, Gilbert O'Sullivan). This line-up recorded the Trevor Rabin-produced eponymous album in 1980, released by EMI who signed the band after their 1979 Reading Festival appearance.Carter left the band in August 1980 after the band's UK tour with Ted Nugent in order to join UFO and later Gary Moore. His replacement was guitarist John Lockton (ex-Next Band, Red Alert) whose first appearance was on the band's Japanese tour in the autumn of 1980 followed by the release of the Stand Your Ground album in the spring of 1981.In June 1981, Robertson and Edwards both left Wild Horses in the wake of the band's Paris Theatre show in London. Robertson teamed up with Motörhead a year later and recorded Another Perfect Day in 1983, before moving on to join fellow Scotsman Frankie Miller on the Dancing in the Rain album in 1986. Edwards continued with a number of different acts, including Bernie Marsden's S.O.S., Grand Prix, and Lionheart.Bain assembled a new Wild Horses line-up featuring Lockton, former Lautrec stepfather and son team, Reuben (vocals) and Laurence Archer (guitar), and The Def Leppard E.P. credited drummer Frank Noon. The Archers and Noon left only months later and went on to form their own band, Stampede, and Wild Horses ceased to exist, with Bain joining his former Rainbow bandmate Ronnie James Dio in Dio, while Lockton became a member of German hard rockers Victory.Wild Horses members Laurence Archer and Clive Edwards were part of the UFO line-up that recorded the High Stakes & Dangerous Men and Lights Out in Tokyo albums in the early 1990s, before spending time in Medicine Head. After being involved with the reformed Stampede, Archer and Edwards launched X-UFO in the summer of 2011 along with Rocky Newton and Danny Peyronel. Both Wild Horses and Stand Your Ground have seen repeated re-issues over the years, the first coming in 1993 via EMI-Toshiba Japan as part of the 'Legendary Masters' series. European re-issues, including various bonus tracks, followed in 1999 (Zoom Club), 2009 (Krescendo), and 2013 (Rock Candy). On 25 February 2014, a bootleg quality Wild Horses live album, titled Live In Japan 1980, recorded at the band's Nakano Sun Plaza, Tokyo gig on 29 October 1980, was issued via Krescendo. The same recording had first surfaced in 2012 as a Japanese bootleg titled Heavy Ride.

Album:

WILD HORSES albums 'Remastered & Reloaded' by Rock Candy Records, both including a bunch of previously unreleased tracks included as bonus.Rainbow and Thin Lizzy were two of the biggest names in rock during the late '70s so when Rainbow dispensed with the services of bassist Jimmy Bain, and Thin Lizzy dismissed guitarist Brian Robertson it was almost inevitable that the two would join forces to create a new powerhouse rock group.Indeed, with Bain and Robertson sharing a London flat together the musical combination was quickly cemented going under the forceful moniker of Wild Horses.Looking to solidify the line up they approached several potential drummers including, at first, former Faces and The Who stalwart Kenney Jones before settling for one time Pat Travers sticks man Clive Edwards. They also enlisted then unknown multi instrumentalist Neil Carter, later to join UFO and Gary Moore.Stepping into Konk Studios with South African born producer / artist Trevor Rabin (later, the man who resurrected YES for the '80s) it was this unit that cut the debut "Wild Horses" album for major label EMI, a record bristling with fresh promise.Renowned for their hair raising personalities Robertson and Bain delivered explosive guitar driven tracks big on hooks but smooth enough to appeal to radio. There's strong rockers such as 'Reservation' and the catchy 'Street Girl', while 'Dealer' was co-written with Thin Lizzy’s former band mate Scott Gorham, and 'Flyaway' features the great Phil Lynott as guest. The band's self-titled debut "Wild Horses" still sounds exciting and fresh today, a testimony to the talent involved. This Rock Candy remaster sounds really good and includes the rare single B-side 'The Rapist' and alternate takes from the recording sessions.

Album:

Both WILD HORSES albums 'Remastered & Reloaded' by Rock Candy Records, both including a bunch of previously unreleased tracks included as bonus. After the promising self-titled debut, Wild Horses went back into the studio next year to record their second album, "Stand Your Ground".Launched as a veritable super group featuring ex Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain and former Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Roberston, Wild Horses were trumpeted by the music community as the next big thing.Indeed, their self titled debut album turned a great number of heads and confounded those who dismissed the toxic twins as mere opportunists looking to cash in on their notoriety. With an impressive album behind them and explosive live shows helping to build up a healthy head of steam, the band's star was decidedly in the ascendancy."Stand Your Ground" found the band changing the line-up with Neil Carter departing for pastures new (going on to join UFO) and being replaced by the previously unknown John Lockton.Enlisting the help of producer / engineer Kit Woolven who had previously worked with Thin Lizzy and on Phil Lynott’s two solo albums, the band headed into Good Earth Studio, owned and operated by another Lizzy alumnus, Tony Visconti. In keeping with the bands volatile reputation the recordings were the subject of fractious conflict between Bain and Robertson, the two men at odds with the direction the music was taking. But perhaps the angst this caused was able to push the pair as this sophomore effort is every bit as good as the first, even if the music is not as uniform. With that in mind, "Stand Your Ground" is a diverse and exciting record full of surprises set amidst an atmosphere of tension and nervous energy. Songs like 'I’ll Give you Love', 'Back in the U.S.A.' and 'New York City' (a clear to the American market) are great examples of how good this band was and how big they could have become.Wild Horses broke up soon after this album release, then Jimmy Bain rehearsed with Scorpions and later joined Dio for an '80s world wide success.Brian Robertson in 1983 recorded an album with Motorhead, took part in the Thin Lizzy farewell concerts, and later played in Statetrooper and many other bands."Stand Your Ground" was reissued by the now defunct UK labels Zoom Club in 1999 and Krescendo Records in 2009, but this Rock Candy Records remastered release blows out of the water both in terms of sound. Additionally, there's 7 bonus tracks completing the package.

Line-Up:

Jimmy Bain - vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards
Brian Robertson - guitar, keyboards, backing vocals
John Lockton - guitar
Clive Edwards - drums

Tracklist:

01 - I'll give you love
02 - In the city
03 - Another lover
04 - Back in the U.S.A.
05 - Stand your ground

07 - Miami justice
08 - Precious
09 - New York City
10 - Stake out
