Shire is a melodic hard rock/heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, USA, that was formed in 1983.Not to be confused with Shire from St. Louis, Missouri.David Anthony and Alan Santalesa first met in 1981 from an ad in the recycler. They quickly bonded over their mutual love of the new wave of British heavy metal.Heavily influenced by bands such as Def Leppard and the Scorpions, they began a songwriting partnership that has lasted to this day.In 1984 they released an album produced by Don Dokken.They also featured Izzy Stradlin of Guns n Roses on bass for a while and they are mentioned in the Axl Rose biography "W.A.R.".They are now joined by violinist, keyboardist Mary Ann jagosz and thus the magic buzz has begun...

Debut EP.Shire was a band from Los Angeles, CA. with Izzy Stradlin like guest on guitar. A mix of US hard rock and melodic heavy metal, with hooks and a pounding bass.Produced by Don Dokken and Michael Wagener.Album released back in 1984 when some of the best albums came out in hard&heavy history.As you might expect, it’s bright, almost pop-like music, but surprisingly enjoyable. The songs are generally on the heavier side, with the exception of the rock-oriented, even AOR-style “By My Side No More.” It’s known that guitarist Izzy Stradlin (Guns N’ Roses) started his career in this band, but I couldn’t determine whether he participated in the recording of the album. And vocalist Shire joined another short-lived band, Attakk, a few years later a group well-known in niche circles.Returning to the mini-album, I’ll sum up by saying that while it may not be original, it’s not bad - it’s pleasant, and you shouldn’t expect anything special from it.It was tuff for anybody back then to become a hit band and SHIRE did not, but they had some strong songs like "By My Side No More" is my fave.
