Bio:

Sweet (also referred to as The Sweet) were a British rock band that rose to worldwide fame in the 1970s as a prominent glam rock act, with their most prolific line-up: lead vocalist Brian Connolly, bass player Steve Priest, guitarist Andy Scott, and drummer Mick Tucker.Sweet were formed in 1968 and achieved their first hit "Funny Funny" in 1971 after teaming up with songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and record producer Phil Wainman. During 1971 and 1972, their musical style followed a marked progression from the Archies-like bubblegum style of "Funny Funny" to a Who-influenced hard rock style supplemented by a striking use of high-pitched backing vocals. The band achieved notable success in the UK charts, with thirteen Top 20 hits during the 1970s alone, with "Block Buster!" (1973) topping the chart, followed by three consecutive number two hits in "Hell Raiser" (1973), "The Ballroom Blitz" (1973) and "Teenage Rampage" (1974). The band turned to more Hard Rock style with their mid-career singles like 1974's "Turn It Down". Their first self-written and produced single, "Fox on the Run" (1975), also reached number two on the UK charts. These results were topped in West Germany and other countries on the European mainland, where the band was very popular. The Sweet had their last Top 10 hit in 1978 with "Love Is Like Oxygen". Connolly left the group in 1979 to start a solo career and the remaining members continued as a threesome until disbanding in 1981.From the mid-1980s, Scott, Connolly and Priest each played with their own versions of Sweet at different times. Connolly died in 1997 and Tucker in 2002. The two surviving members are still active in their respective versions of the band; Scott's is based in the United Kingdom and Priest's in the United States.

Album:

Sweet Fanny Adams is the second album by Sweet, their first of two released in 1974, and also their first album simply as Sweet. The album was a turning point and change in the band's sound. It featured more of a hard rock sound than their previous pop records. The album title is English (originally Royal Navy) slang originating from the murder of eight-year-old Fanny Adams in 1867 and means "nothing at all" as well as a similar euphemism "F.A." = "fuck all".Sweet Fanny Adams reached No. 27 on the UK Albums Chart in the year of its release by RCA Records in 1974 and No. 2 in the albums chart of West Germany. It was not released in the US, but five of its tracks appeared on the US version of the album Desolation Boulevard released in July 1975. All songs written and composed by Brian Connolly, Steve Priest, Andy Scott and Mick Tucker except where noted. "Set Me Free" was covered by NWOBHM band Saxon on their 1984 album Crusader, American thrash metal band Heathen on their 1987 debut album Breaking the Silence, Seattle punk rockers Fastbacks on their 1987 debut album ...And His Orchestra, Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil on his 1993 solo debut Exposed, Eric Singer Project on the 1998 album Lost and Spaced, and Christian metal act Stryper on 2011's The Covering. "No You Don't" was covered by Pat Benatar on her 1979 debut album In the Heat of the Night. "AC-DC" was covered by Joan Jett on her 2006 album Sinner as the title "A.C.D.C.", as well as by Vince Neil on his 2010 album Tattoos & Tequila as "AC/DC".The late 1980s Indiana-based glam metal band Sweet F.A., which released a pair of major labels albums in 1989 and 1991, respectively, named themselves after the Sweet song. English rock group Love and Rockets titled their 1996 album Sweet F.A..

Album:

Entitled "Fox On The Run ; Rare Studio Tracks", this is a compilation / greatest hits of THE SWEET just released by Cleopatra Records on CD featuring 15 tracks. The 'Rare Studio Tracks' label is a selling trick as all are not 'rare', but The Sweet's most known songs and hits. Yes, some are alternate mixes done not so long ago to update the song's sound to modern times, and work very well. The Sweet was one of the more influential rock bands of all time. These British proto-glam rockers not only influenced generations of musicians but also several musical genres all the way. Most hard rock / metal stars always mention The Sweet as a formative band from their youth.Krokus got a hit single covering "Ballroom Blitz", Def Leppard and Steve Stevens' Atomic Playboys did great versions of 'Action', 'Fox on the Run' was covered by Girlschool, Red Chili Peppers, Mad Max, Ace Frehley and countless more.Well, on "Fox On The Run ; Rare Studio Tracks" you have the originals and more. The Sweet always had the hooks, their harmonies were tops and the expert production assured them regular top 10 status for a good many years. Songs like Blockbuster, Hell Raiser, Ballroom Blitz, Fox On The Run, Love Is Like Oxygen and Teenage Rampage are rowdy and tuneful little teen anthems which still sound fresh today.Glam rock at its best - or at least at its very beginning - which redefined much of the music to come.

Line Up:

Brian Connolly - lead vocals
Mick Tucker - drums, percussion, vocals
Steve Priest - bass, lead & backing vocals
Andy Scott - guitars, keyboards, synths, lead & backing vocals

Album:

This is a full release of the 2012 album previously available directly from the band and this version adds three bonus songs. The current line-up of the Sweet consists of original member guitarist Andy Scott joined by Pete Lincoln (vocals/bass), Tony O’Hora (guitar/keys/vocals) and Bruce Bisland (drums/vocals).The choice of covers has a loose New York theme with the title track pretty faithful to the original by 70?s band Hello (the song was written by Russ Ballard). However the real treats are the more ‘off the wall’ choices like Dead Or Alive’s ‘You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)’. The Sweet slow it down with a chugging guitar riff and their high end harmony vocals suit this song down to the ground. The other modern cover is ‘Gold On The Ceiling’ by the Black Keys, again this works well and sounds like a Sweet song!Drummer Bruce Bisland has fun on the Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ (listen out for the brief snatch of the Sweet’s ‘Ballroom Blitz’), whilst not to be outdone Andy Scott puts in a sterling performance on ‘Sweet Jane’. This was originally recorded by the Velvet Underground but actually sounds like a long lost 70’s Sweet tune! The original name of this album was ‘New York Connection’, which is an old Sweet B-side and is included on here. The three bonus songs are a live version of ‘You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)’ recorded live at Sweden Rock 2013. Shows that the songs on this covers album can work well in the live setting as well. There is an acoustic version of ‘New York Groove’, which although good seems to lose a bit of the ‘oomph’ of the electric version and finally a remix of ‘It’s All Moving Faster’.

Line Up:

David Coverdale – lead vocals
John Sykes – guitar
Neil Murray – bass guitar
Cozy Powell – drums
Jon Lord – keyboards/ Hammond organ (tracks 13, 14, 15, 16)

Tracklist:

01. New York Groove
02. Gold On The Ceiling
03. It´s All Moving Faster
04. New York Connection
05. Shapes Of Things
06. You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)
07. Because The Night
08. Sweet Jane
09. Blitzkrieg Bop
10. On Broadway
11. Join Together
12. It´s All Moving faster (PDQ Mix) (Bonus Track)
13. You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record) (Live At Sweden Rock 2013) (Bonus Track)

Album:

The collection includes obscure B-sides as well as better-known hits and gives a good sense of the great artistic breadth of this band and their output. A lot of great rockers styled in such ways that they anticipate many later bands -- whether it be AC DC or Aerosmith or even Queen, Def Leppard, while paying homage to the masters like the Who, the Beatles and the Kinks.A very fine collection of non-album tracks from the Sweet's career with the original lineup. A must have for all fans who never had the chance to buy the original 45's.

Album:

Legendary rock band SWEET will release its new studio album, "Full Circle", on September 20, 2024 via Metalville Records. According to a press release, the LP will be SWEET's final studio album ever.SWEET is a rock music phenomena that has taken the world by storm for more then five decades. Over the years, SWEET sold more than 55 million records and earned 34 No. 1 chart positions worldwide. The golden thread that links the past through to the present and into the future is SWEET founding member Andy Scott with all his determination to maintain high standards with the band's musical legacy, recording and touring. The band today has still an illustrious pedigree recreating "live" the high energy and soaring vocals associated with the SWEET sound that is the band's trademark.SWEET began writing songs for the "Full Circle" album in 2019, before the pandemic. The project was shelved, and the band released "Isolation Boulevard" instead."Isolation Boulevard" featured all the SWEET's classic hit singles and was recorded with the new lineup during lockdowns between September and October 2020. It was a reworking of SWEET's 1975 album multi-million-selling "Desolation Boulevard". This involved remote recording sessions which put a new spin on the material. The album was well received, and a single, "Set Me Free", appeared in many heritage rock charts. With the COVID period of isolation behind us, SWEET started the sessions for "Full Circle" in earnest. The band's touring schedule split the sessions but by the spring of 2024, the recordings were done. The band's performance is outstanding and producers Andy and Tom are very proud of the result. In a 2021 interview with VWMusic, Scott stated about SWEET's place within the rock and glam history: "I think we were probably underrated, and though we have respect from our peers, the other bands and musicians, I feel that if the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame came knocking, it would be a shame, almost too late, as I am the only one left. But hey, the legacy lives on."Regarding SWEET's influence on the 1980s hair metal era, Andy said: "When bands like MÖTLEY CRÜE broke through, it was like looking at a snapshot of SWEET ten years on. The music was heavier and more reminiscent of our albums and B-sides than the singles. But in cultural/fashion terms, it is a direct line, a pure connection."

SWEET recently released the stunning new album Full Circle, and to keep the streak alive, “Isolation Boulevard” will follow at the end of November, 2024.The glam / hard rock legend had the ‘Still Got the Rock tour’ underway when the pandemic put a stop sign in front of the tour bus. In order not to slow down, the band re-recorded 12 classics. Andy Scott and Bruce Bisland, along with the ‘new’ guys Paul Manzi (CATS IN SPACE) and Lee Small (LIONHEART, SHY), used the time between lockdowns to get the job done. The result of their efforts will hit the shelves these days and is titled “Isolation Boulevard”, which reflects the circumstances under which the album was produced in a good way. While Sweet released the album by themselves in 2020, it was much sought-after, difficult to obtain. Now Metalville Records is properly releasing “Isolation Boulevard” wolrd-wide.“Isolation Boulevard” is a re-recording of the band’s great classics, and as we are facing re-recordings, there is a lot of extra power in songs like the thunderous “Action” or the timeless “Fox on the Run”. There’s also ”New York Groove” – we love this song – and believe us, this new version kills, even better than Ace Frehley’s. This track worth the album alone.Listening to the album is like taking a trip down memory lane. It is like a time warp back to the 70’s with songs like “Love is Like Oxygen” with Steve Mann (LIONHEART) adding keyboards to the re-recorded version. “Blockbuster” and “Ballroom Blitz”, all of these classics are on the album, reflecting the roots of glam rock.“Isolation Boulevard” is an album that wouldn’t exist without the pandemic, and probably no one would have missed it. But now, when listening to these highlights of rock, we can state that “Isolation Boulevard” is a well-done compilation of great songs that defined an entire genre. This album is very entertaining and feels like a time travel to the heyday of classic rock.

Album:

“Sweet Fanny Adams Revisited” is a fiery live re-imagining of The SWEET seminal 1974 album Sweet Fanny Adams, recorded live in 2012 by Andy Scott’s line-up.The album had become pretty rare since its release and had been out of print for some time. Now “Sweet Fanny Adams Revisited” will be re-released on CD by Metalville on August 8th, remastered. As the press release states: “Between 2010 and 2012, many SWEET shows were recorded in various countries, and “Sweet Fanny Adams Revisited” (recorded at a concert in 2012) delivers the very essence of these extraordinary performances. The success of the original 1973 album “Sweet Fanny Adams” was the catalyst that propelled Sweet to worldwide superstar status. As a live performance almost 40 years after the release of the original album, “Sweet Fanny Adams Revisited” offers the finest Sweet classic hard rock. The band around Andy Scott presents itself in top form and impressively transports the special magic of the highly commercial power songs back to the stage.“In fact two songs from the original ’73 LP are completely omitted – namely ‘Rebel Rouser’ and ‘Peppermint Twist’ which are replaced in the live set by ‘The Six Teens’ (the opening track of Desolation Boulevard their next album), and classics ‘Fox on the Run’ (Also from Desolation Boulevard) and ‘Ballroom Blitz’ (The September 1974 single released 5 months after ‘Sweet Fanny Adams’).As an album it sounds great, Sweet always sounded better live, and this Andy Scott version of the band has a hard rock edge. It’s a a record that captures latter day Sweet nicely. Opener ‘Sweet F.A.’ sounds in fine fettle, rocking hard, with a furious solo and driving beat to get things going. The sonic approach is well away from the Glam and into Hard Rocking and it sounds all the better for it.There’s touches here and there that really work like the flamenco seasoning to ‘The Six Teens’ and Pete Lincoln’s vocals are solid throughout. In truth though as you might expect it’s ‘Fox on the Run’ & ‘Ballroom Blitz’ that soar to steal the show, harder edged and heavier. This is testament to the songs which sound maybe even better with age showing the new band’s stage confidence nearly four decades after the songs were written. It’s not just nostalgia—it’s proof that these songs defy the passage of time.

Line Up:

Pete Lincoln - Lead Vocals, Bass
Andy Scott - Guitar, keyboards, vocals
Tony O’Hora - Keyboards, Backing Vocals
Bruce Bisland - Drums, Backing Vocals

Album:

The year was 1985. The reformation of SWEET was under way. Leader Andy Scott had been hanging out with drummer Mick Tucker and both talked about putting together a “new” Rock line-up of Sweet after the hiatus of the original band.
Scott recruited Phil Lanzon (URIAH HEEP) on keyboards and Mal McNulty (SLADE) on bass, then they needed the voice! Paul Mario Day (IRON MAIDEN) walked in and they looked no further. Paul was the original singer with IRON MAIDEN and had a stint with the band MORE before he joined Sweet. This mid-Eighties SWEET first dates were in Australia, total sell-outs which boded well for the future. Europe followed suit and 3 sold-out nights at the original Marquee Club in London produced a live album, video and DVD; “Live at the Marquee” did well in various charts around the world and Paul’s vocal performance has stood the test of time. There were also studio tracks recorded at Pacific Studios in London. These recordings were meant to be the start of a new phase for SWEET but due to a management dispute, only a few were released.Sadly Paul is no longer with us but the legacy is right here for everyone to appreciate; next April 10 Metalville Records is about to release “Reincarnation“, the 1985 SWEET studio recordings, plus two previously unreleased bonus tracks.

Line Up:

Paul Mario Day – lead vocals
Andy Scott – guitar, backing vocals
Mal McNulty – bass, backing vocals
Mick Tucker – drums, backing vocals
Phil Lanzon – keyboards, backing vocals

04. Shot Me Down In Flames
05. Gunner Of Love (Studio Demo)
