Bio:

Wolfchant is a band formed in St. Oswald, Germany in August 2003 by Lokhi, Gaahnt, Skaahl, and Norgahd. Wolfchant's lyrics deal with legends and folk tales from Nordic mythology. In August 2005 they signed a record contract with CCP Records. With the first full-length album Bloody Tales of Disgraced Lands (2005) the band gained supra-regional respect. In February 2007 Nattulv became a member of Wolfchant after former bass guitar Gaahnt quit the band for family reasons. Nattulv was replaced by Bahznar, for their album Determined Damnation, which was released in April 2009.The band made a guest appearance in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode "Totem Pole", which aired in 2012.

Album:

Issued with separate booklet for each disc. Includes new version of the 2005 "Bloody Tales Of Disgraced Lands" album.Embraced By Fire was recorded and mixed [...] in the Forte Fortissimo Studio in Coburg from November 2012 - December 2012.Bloody Tales Of Disgraced Lands 2013 was recorded and mixed in the Southern Deathcult Studios St. Oswald from June 2012 to November 2012.

Bloody Tales of Disgraced Lands is a debut full-length concept album about the war of the Clan of Cross by the German Viking / pagan metal band Wolfchant. It was released on November 25, 2005 through CCP Records. The second full-length release by the unfortunately over-shadowed band Wolfchant. It seems today that people jump to wild and ridiculous conclusions and shove a knife to your throat if they think that you might have possibly hinted at something that may have been slightly insulting to something they believe in. One of the first things I encountered when listening to Wolfchant, was an obnoxious crowd of people proclaiming this band as anti-Christian and satanic. Being a very strong Christian (ironic, considering my musical tastes) I decided to delve deeper. It didn’t take long to realize that these people were idiots. After carefully reviewing the lyrics I noticed the following: the only song that has any sort of Christian reference is "Clan of the Cross." many people jumped to the conclusion that because of this song that they are anti-Christian, based on lines like "you are hated, you are feared." I decided to do some homework. This song is based around the point of view of a Slavic warrior during the time of the crusades who watches in horror as his people are murdered, raped because of their pagan beliefs. Picture this: barbarians bust down your door one day, murder your children, rape your wife, burn down your house and your supposed to love them? Hell no.The only reason I went to all this trouble is because I was actually impressed by this band. They arent especially unique, but they blend several things into their music that appeals to me.The Vocals of Wolfchant are one of my favorite parts of the band. Lohki's vocals change from song to song, unleashing a torrent of intense, ragged screams (similar to those of Oli Sykes) one minute and spitting out dense guttural growls the next. The one thing that makes him a standout is his capability to blend his vocal styles. He fuses the high pitched tones of his screams, with the darker sound of his growling to create a unique vocal style I call scrowling (because greaming sounds gay). This style is really brought to life in "I Am War." Also, at times Lohki's voice sound's very similar to that of Jeff Walker. Fortunately for us, the lyrics throughout this album are an unintelligible mess of noise, considering the lyrics are simply an hour long epic tale of revenge, booze and Odin. However after listening to the album many times more, I have grown to love the ridiculous lyrical themes. The guitarists of Wolfchant arent exceptional musicians but they definitely have the folk theme down cold. Each of the songs features its own unique tune that sounds like it should have been played on a lute. I know this isn’t unique among Folk Metal bands, but considering I'm new to the genre it’s still refreshing to listen to after hours of increasingly formulaic death metal riffs. If you’re looking for gruesome and/or wickedly fast guitar tones, go somewhere else.I consider the drumming to be exceptionally standard, considering I never noticed it. Although it may sound like a slight at Wolfchant's drummer Norgahd, it isn’t. There are only two times I will ever unwillingly notice a drummer: 1. if the drummer is very talented 2.fIf the drummer is being loud and obnoxious, (almost deliberately) destroying the beat of the song and completely screwing things up. Most often, its number 2 that gets my attention. I absolutely hate songs with clashing drums and guitars, which is probably why I like this band. There is zero clash between the two instruments throughout this album.I enjoyed this album, despite the fact that it’s an hour long, and has several songs that are in or approaching the "way too long" area. It’s not amazing but its pretty damn good as far as folk metal goes.

Embraced by Fire is the fifth album of the German Viking / pagan metal band Wolfchant. It was released on May the 1st, 2013 in digipak format through NoiseArt Records and contains both new material and a re-recorded version of their first album Bloody Tales of Disgraced Lands.Hails and Cheers Metal Templars! Tonight I am in awe of the snow covered landscape outside my window. The scenery always inspires me to throw on some Pagan Metal, grab some spiced wine, and have a damn good time. Nothing like a little WOLFCHANT to frame the evening."Embraced By Fire" is WOLFCHANT’s 5th full length album to date, and it truly an epic piece of Pagan Metal. The songs are ripe with Nordic Mythology, Paganism, Anti-Christianity, and are delivered by deep and powerful Metal riffs that would make Odin himself smile. The songs are diverse, almost spiritual, and really showcase Lokhi and Nortwin’s vocal blends. The guitar and keys create an atmosphere of preparing for battle; driving, rolling, and larger than life riffs make you want to pillage something. Sarlov’s bass and Norgahd’ drum work are pretty damn good in maintaining that windmill inducing background of rhythm. If i would fuss about anything, it would be that the recording is a bit thin, and the album is a tad bit short as far as songs go. For a rating I would give it a 7 out of 10. Musically it is really damn good, but with only 8 songs, it doesn’t really feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. As always, stay well, and live free my friends! Cheers!

Album:

Today we are heading back to our roots, and Pagan/Folk Metal band WOLFCHANT will be our guides through the past. The German 7 pieces are unleashing their sixth full length album “Bloodwinter” on the world. I’m not going to lie, I have a soft spot for Folk Metal so I’m excited to see how this album turns out.Sadly, that excitement soon begins to fade. “Bloodwinter” opens with a very typical symphonic track, with an orchestra and an operatic vocalist. It’s all very nice but straight away I’m feeling something is lacking, it’s like the components are all there and there’s just no fire behind them. At this point I’m not holding much hope for “Bloodwinter” but WOLFCHANT begin to pull it back and by the time we hit the title track the band are getting into the swing of it. We begin to see guitarists Skaahl and Gorthrim throw out some serious riffs and occasionally a great solo, it’s a great difference from the uninspiring beginning.I do have to commend WOLFCHANT on their vocalists, the combination of clean vocals and harsh blackened rasps feels very well-rehearsed and compliments the music well. There is a trap to fall into with two vocalists, it’s very easy for each track to sound too similar because both singers are competing with each other all the time. I’m happy to say though, that WOLFCHANT have mostly managed to avoid this pit fall. With both clean and harsh vocals working together to keep the songs interesting, I do have to say mostly though because on occasion the clean vocals overpower the harsher rasping vocals. As the album draws to a close we come to one of the stand out tracks on “Bloodwinter”, “Anthems Of Revenge”. This is one of those tracks where everything just falls into place and works, with heavy churning guitar riffs and nice solo for good measure and vocals that really step up and give it a proper “Epic Folk tale” feel. That’s just my personal favourite though as these last few tracks are the bands finest on this album and offer something for everyone. The band has been getting steadily better and now sadly at the end they come into their prime.I don’t know what happened here, “Bloodwinter” begin as a lacklustre and uninspiring album. It’s like the band were there, but only in body but as the album progressed they slowly began to find themselves and at the end they were producing some great music. They need to watch the mix between vocalists though as sometimes you can hear that the unclean vocals are a little weak. “Bloodwinter” certainly has its flaws, but it’s still a half decent album, with more good elements than bad. I just wish they had played at the beginning like they did at the end.
