Bio:

Vincent "Vinnie" Moore (born April 14, 1964) is an American guitarist and a member of the English hard rock band UFO.Moore is one of the most influential and important guitarists to emerge from the virtuoso boom in the mid to late eighties.Moore was born in New Castle, Delaware, only a couple miles from fellow musicians George Thorogood (and The Delaware Destroyers). He began his professional career at age 12 and played clubs and bars until Shrapnel executive Mike Varney discovered him via a demo and bio that Vinnie submitted to the Spotlight column, which Varney headed for Guitar Player Magazine. His connection to Varney led to an opportunity to appear in a Pepsi commercial in 1985,(only Vinnie's hands appeared in the commercial as his guitar playing is heard.Following this, Moore recorded his first solo album, Mind's Eye (1986), released on Shrapnel Records and featured Tony MacAlpine on keyboards. The album received several awards from guitar magazines and sold over 100,000 copies.Vinnie Moore played lead guitar with the heavy metal band Vicious Rumors on their debut album, Soldiers of the Night (1985). The album features Moore's solo-song "Invader", which was in the style of Van Halen's "Eruption". The shred guitar craze of the late eighties led to more releases for Shrapnel.[citation needed] Moore also began performing with other hard rock and heavy metal bands.Moore joined Alice Cooper's band for a tour and then appeared on the Hey Stoopid (1991) album.Moore released two instructional videos on guitar playing.Moore has been the lead guitarist for UFO since June 2003, releasing his first studio album with them You Are Here the following year in 2004. This has been followed by The Monkey Puzzle (2006), The Visitor (2009), Seven Deadly (2012) and A Conspiracy of Stars (2015).On August 5, 2013, Moore joined the stage to perform live with Peter Frampton on Frampton's Guitar Circus concert at Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.Moore is playing guitar on Red Zone Rider's debut album Red Zone Rider released September 16, 2014.

Album:

Japan edition with 2 bonus tracks.Vinnie Moore burst onto the music scene in the late '80s as one of the purveyors of neo-classical fusion. Vinnie has successfully morphed his style away from neo-classical fusion in a more rock-oriented direction. Released in 1996, but recorded in 1994, the variety and competent performances make you wonder why this guy couldn't find anyone to distribute his music. Although his music has become more rock-oriented, the fact that his music has become more universal is a certain strength lacking in his earlier releases. The disc starts in a solid manner with the energetic "With The Flow" but without resorting to the bombastic style of his previous disc. "Echoes" and "Time Traveler" are stellar tracks. Vinnie repeats his style from "Meltdown" on "770 Days," but when you're talented it's easy to forgive. Always balancing superb technical innovation with a strong sense of melody, "Out Of Nowhere" is great listening. The only weak track is a ditty called "VinMan's Brew" which finds Vinnie straying too far into territory that has been done a thousand times elsewhere by other artists.Vinnie is supported by Brian Tichy on drums and Dorian Heartsong on bass.Vinnie produces himself on this record. One can argue about artists producing themselves and having the results be less than stellar, but Vinnie's production is a means to an end - what you hear in the final product is exactly the way he intends it to be - not some producer's twist.Written and produced by Vinnie Moore (with production assistance from engineer Paul Hammingson), "Out Of Nowhere" is the guitarist's fourth CD and continues the hard rock sound found on "Meltdown" This time Moore included two acoustic songs as well as riff-a-plenty tunage such as "Time Traveler", "770 Days" and "Losing Faith". Recorded at Kajem Studios just outside Philadelphia (with additional work done at Moore's new home studio), the album, once again all instrumental, travels the outer limits of song writing. From the crushing opening riff of "With The Flow", to the smooth, almost angelic styling of "Echoes", to the all-out jam of "Thunderball" and his twang thang, "VinMan's Brew", the album plays like an old friend. Propelled by a powerful compositional framework that is second to none, "Out Of Nowhere" is lifted by Moore's unique understanding of harmonic expression. A lively and emotive balance to his technical mastery, songs like "From Now On", "She's Only Sleeping", and "Winter Sun" showcase the player's sensitivity and skill. The results are inviting.

Album:

The long awaited new album from legendary guitarist Vinnie Moore will be released on October 23rd, 2015 via Mind’s Eye Music.Titled “Aerial Visions”, Vinnie's 8th solo album features drummer Richie Monica (Tantric, Poppa Chubby), and bassists Dave LaRue (Steve Morse Band, Flying Colors, The Dregs), Rob DeLuca (UFO, Sebastian Bach), Dorian Heartsong (Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience) and Elliott Dean Rubinson (Uli Jon Roth, MSG).“Everything that Moore throws himself into features his astounding 6-string abilities. Far from being a 'mere shredder', Moore combines insane technique with touch, taste, and stylistic influences that include Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Larry Carlton, and many other diverse talents. He can play sweep-picked arpeggios with a bluesy feel or play blues licks at neo-classical speeds, never sacrificing tone, time,or intonation. It's a unique and musical skill set” – Matt Blackett, Guitar Player Magazine.Vinnie has released seven critically acclaimed solo albums; five albums and one DVD as a member of rock royalty legends UFO; and one album with band Red Zone Rider. His solo and UFO releases as well as LIVE performances have amassed rave reviews all around the globe from both fans and music press, inspiring guitarists worldwide and launching him into aerial guitar superhero distinction!Says Vinnie: “I have been touring all over the world pretty nonstop for the past 12 years. I started this record about two years ago and have been working on it while at home. I'm totally jacked up about getting it out there for others to hear as well as playing these songs LIVE. Two of the songs on "Aerial" were written as instrumentals but were included on a UFO record with vocals. I have also done a cover of ZZ Top's "La Grange" which I have always thought is one of the coolest songs ever. I have done ZZ covers onstage a lot”.Vinnie has toured several times all over Europe, UK,Scandanvia, Brazil, and the USA, as well as performing in India, Korea, Mexico, Russia, and Canada. The UFO "A Conspiracy of Stars" tour will continue in Europe on October 21, and will include nine shows in December as opening act for Judas Priest on their Redeemer of Souls tour.“Eyes closed in concentration, his fingers dancing, he solos like a man possessed. Ritchie Blackmore used to be like this. Vinnie is that good!” – Neil Jeffries, Classic Rock Magazine, England.Says Vinnie: “With my solo records I can cover a lot more territory stylistically. I enjoy this freedom to be able to follow my muse wherever it leads. All of my influences are in there, from Rock to Blues to Be-Bop to Funk. I am into so many different styles of music that I can't help myself, I'm basically a slave to it all and so there are inspirations from everywhere. Having said that, being a songwriter is the most important thing to me. I try to use my inspiration to create a mood and take the listener on a little journey to wherever”.

Album:

The follow-up to Vinnie Moore's critically acclaimed 2015 "Aerial Visions" album will be released on October 9 on his label Mind's Eye Music. Titled "Soul Shifter", Vinnie's ninth solo album features guest appearances by legendary artists Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT) and Jordan Rudess (DREAM THEATER), with Richie Monica on drums, Michael Bean (bassist from Vinnie's "Time Odyssey" album), John Cassidy (keyboards) and John Pessoni (drums).Vinnie is considered one of the originators of shred guitar, and has released eight influential solo albums, and six albums and a live DVD as a member of rock royalty legends UFO. He's made countless album guest appearances, and has even recorded the soundtrack for a Pepsi TV commercial. He's been a member of Alice Cooper's band and was opening act for RUSH on their "Roll The Bones" tour with his own band. His solo and UFO recordings as well as live performances have amassed rave reviews all around the globe from both fans and music press, catapulting him into guitar icon distinction. He has been an inspiration for fans and guitarists worldwide.Says Vinnie: "I have been touring all over the world extensively with UFO and my solo band for the past 16 years. I started this album a couple years back and have been working on it religiously between tours. It's quite different than any of my others. It has elements of things I've done in the past, but has gone much deeper into certain areas. There is an overall sort of contrast between energetic upbeat songs, versus ballad-like soulful ones which has always been a big part of my style. There are some jam elements in places too. This is likely the most emotional and soulful thing I have ever done. Very moody, with lots of feel."I wrote a song as a tribute to Carlos Santana, called 'Brother Carlos', and another called 'Gainesville Station' which is a tip of the hat to Steve Gaines. Both players were huge influences on me when I was learning to play, and continue to be now."When something moves me, what I am feeling flows directly into music. That's how I deal with reality. I woke up one morning to the news that Chris Cornell had passed and it really hit me hard. I went into my studio, picked up a guitar and immediately wrote and recorded 'Mystified'. Without intending to do so, and because of what was going on around me at the time, this album in a way became a tribute to people who meant something to me."The ALLMAN BROTHERS were always one of my favorite bands and I was working on a song called 'Soul Rider' that was inspired by them. While writing it, unfortunately, Greg Allman left us. A lot of heart went into recording that song. Also, I wrote a song called 'Heard You Were Gone' for my friend and band mate Elliott (Dean Guitars) who left us unexpectedly a couple years back."There are definitely some downhearted cathartic moments on this album, but they're balanced out with songs like 'Kung Fu Grip' and 'Funk Bone Jam' that represent the opposite side of my personality, which is my constant joking and quirky sense of humor." The UFO "Last Orders" tour began in England in March, and will continue in the USA on October 9.

Album:

Vinnie is joined on this half-vocal-half-instrumental follow-up to 2019 "Soul Shifter" by singers Ed Terry (Rage And Beyond, American Mafia), Keith Slack (MSG, Mother Road),Mike DiMeo (Riot) and Brian Stephenson (Old James). This is Vinnie's first solo release that features vocals. Bandmembers include Richie Monica (Billy Cox, Papa Chubby, Tantric) on drums, Michael Bean and Pete Griffin (Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa) on bass, John Cassidy on keyboards, and John Pessoni on drums. We were mightily impressed with Vinnie Moore’s last album offering ‘Soul Shifter’ – an all instrumental feast of guitar-based rock. For his latest sojourn Vinnie has decided to work with a handful of vocalists, an idea that developed during Lockdown when he decided that his musical ideas needed a bit of vocal heft.Perhaps he was feeling increasingly distanced from his usual job, as guitarist with hard rockers U.F.O. since 2003. Whatever, there’s still lots of tasty guitar on display like the hard rocking opener ‘Vertical Horizon’ one of two tracks with Ed Terry on vocals.Elsewhere, Mike Dimeo (Riot) contributes to the funky ‘Rise’, a great groove that just gets better with Moore’s breakdown riffing. The vocal tracks (and ‘Rocket’!) put me in mind of prime-time Pat Travers; bluesy and riffy but of course Moore’s fluid shredding being the major difference. The core band of Richie Monica (drums) and Pete Griffin (bass) provide solid support throughout.Overall, I’m not sure that the vocal approach is the best one as it has to be predicated on killer songs. Moore is primarily known for his sterling guitar work from earliest days on Shrapnel Records and there will be many who just want to hear that.As if to answer their calls, those wanting more of Moore’s guitar will be pleased that half the album is in fact instrumental. (Perhaps strangely the album is front-loaded with the six vocal tracks). The instrumental style on wah-driven ‘Astro Man’ is satisfyingly funky and I was reminded at times of the long lost Lenny White album ‘Streamline’ with Nick Maroch and Jamie Glaser. Especially on ‘Breaking Through’. I mentioned in my last review that Moore’s approach is very much song based and ‘In Too Deep’ and ‘One Day’ provide good examples which put him right up there with Satch and with some similarities. So, those who luxuriated in ‘Soul Shifter’ will find lots to like and maybe the vocal tracks will be the proverbial “grower”.
