Album:

Durham, England, symphonic melodic rock band WINTER IN EDEN is back with their upcoming new album “Never Untold“. The band formed two decades ago is built around the core songwriting duo of vocalist Vicky Johnson and keyboardist Steve Johnson, the band has crafted a masterclass in atmospheric yet hard-hitting rock.Backed by a stellar line up of guest musicians, including Within Temptation’s Ruud Jolie on guitar, Arun Kamath on guitar, and Owen Alec on drums, WINTER IN EDEN delivers a powerful, polished, and deeply immersive musical journey on “Never Untold”, with a polished clear production. What makes WINTER IN EDEN stand out on “Never Untold” is their incredible ability to balance heavy, modern rock elements with elegant symphonic textures. Rather than burying tracks in overwhelming operatic bombast, the band focuses on emotional resonance, stellar musicianship, and massive melodic hooks.Steve Johnson’s intricate keyboard arrangements provide a brilliant cinematic foundation, allowing Vicky Johnson’s soaring, clean, and emotive vocals to take center stage throughout. The album flows smoothly across all ten tracks, taking the listener through complex narrative themes and diverse musical landscapes. The record opens with a stunning three-part suite: “Sleepwalk 1.1: In Plain Sight” drives forward on cool electronic vibrations and a pulsing rhythm, with Vicky’s vocals instantly soaring and setting a high standard for everything that follows.“Sleepwalk 1.2: The Curse” deepens the darkness, with heavier, more intricate guitar work perfectly illustrating the narrative’s growing tension, before “Sleepwalk 1.3: Gone” delivers a sweeping, cinematic resolution to the suite through poignant lyrics and grand symphonic lines. From there, “Nobody” shifts into classic melodic rock territory with an infectious groove and a massive, hook-filled chorus that demands to be played loud, while “My Imagination” showcases stunning dynamic contrast, building from soft ambient textures into an expansive hard-hitting anthem.“Silence” is a true highlight beginning as an intimate, vulnerable vocal showcase before exploding into a heavy, distorted guitar climax that demonstrates exactly why this band excels at tension and release. With the sweeping keys, muscular guitars and Vicky’s soaring voice bringing a truly epic feel, this is a number that bears repeat listening.“Prove You Wrong” brings high-energy defiance and some of the sharpest, punchiest riff-work on the entire record, driven by relentless drums, and “Rise” pairs crushing modern riffs with a stadium-sized hook built to inspire.“Impossible Dream” dives into atmospheric depth, blending progressive rock elements with a theatrical layout that creates a genuinely massive sonic landscape, before the definitive closer “Show Me” brings sweet orchestrations and an incredibly passionate final vocal performance that leaves the listener on a powerful, resounding high. With “Never Untold”, WINTER IN EDEN proves exactly why they are one of the UK’s finest symphonic rock exports. By placing thoughtful storytelling, refined instrumentation, and memorable songwriting at the forefront, they have crafted a phenomenal album here. It’s an audacious and thrilling opening new chapter for WINTER IN EDEN who almost disbanded but now are back with quality material.
