The songs span madly in the best rock 'n' roll tradition with big hooks, attitude, and sleaze. Yet those flamenco breaks got into your head and refused to leave - this hybrid rocks.This mongrel offspring of fiery flamenco passion and gritty gutter glam, the Gypsy Pistoleros' were born roamin' somewhere between Barcelona and Birmingham, brought into the world to a soundtrack stack-heeled anthems of sleazy ‘70s America. Standing alone in musical ancestry and sum sound, they were one one of those most rare acts who can honestly claim the tag 'unique'.The insane inspiration came from frontman and songwriter Gypsy Lee Pistolero who began wielding this unique sound whilst living in Zaragoza (Spain) whilst supporting The Ramones in 1993.The Gypsy Pistoleros have always had a reputation for danger and played five Rocklahoma festivals 2007-11, in Oklahoma, USA , where they appeared alongside Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Poison, ZZ top, Twisted sister, Faster Pussycat, Vain, Papa Roach, Whitesnake, Skid Row, Black Label Society. Normally closing each night!They have toured extensively, playing with the likes of L.A. If gene splicing scientists had created the GYPSY PISTOLEROS, they would have a certain set of ingredients in front of them to arrive at this raucous mix of glam rock, theatrical rock and shambolic punk. Firstly, one has to look at rock musicals like ‘Rocky Horror Show’ and perhaps a dash of ‘Grease’ to ensure we are blessed with the sort of harmonies that somehow 4 people manage to deliver instead of an ensemble cast. Then we pick up a healthy slice of 70s British glam rock. There’s no denying the nods towards T-Rex, Slade, Wizzard, and more from the era into Gypsy Pistoleros’ music.We are presenting in exclusive GYPSY PISTOLEROS upcoming new album “Dark Faerie Tales” which isn’t as immediate as its predecessor – the glorious Church Of The Pistoleros from last year – rather, in the way that many albums that end up becoming your all-time favorites have, it gives up it’s secrets and delights more cautiously, bidding you as a listener to do a bit more of the heavy lifting this time around.The end result is the same by the way – they’ve delivered another ripper here.In the shape of tracks like the, um, rattling good Rattler, or the fabulously down-at-heel King Of Almost Everything, the band have come up with another haul of ragged-trousered signature tunes for the dispossessed or, more likely in today’s climate, those who never had anything in the first place.Gypsy Lee Pistolero plays his role as gin-soaked rabble rouser to the hilt again, rallying the troops around anthemic all-go-down-together singalongs Take My Hand To Nightmare Land and I’m The Prince of the Damned; Wild-eyed conviction has always been his strong suit, and in producer /co-writer Dave Draper he at last seems to have found the foil he needs to channel that piss n’vinegar for good.Gypsy Pistoleros no longer seems like a half-baked gimmick, but a viable rallying point, a force for hope in dark and worrying times. Not many bands have the strength of character to take on such a mantle, but on the evidence of their last two records I’m starting to think the Pistoleros might just be such an outfit… Get this record as soon as you can.
