How this band escaped a major deal is bewildering. Every song is a bonafide hit and a few of these were even covered by other bands of the era. Massive hooks , killer vocals , tasty guitars and plenty of rich keyboard work. I'm sure you will agree this is fantastic material and easily one of the best female-fronted AOR releases ever!!
Album:
Originally recorded during the late 1980s, Sweet Surrender captures The Storm at the height of the AOR movement a time when soaring melodies, powerful vocals, and polished production ruled the airwaves. Blending the melodic brilliance of Journey with the female-fronted rock energy of Heart and Vixen, The Storm crafted a timeless collection of songs that should have stood alongside the biggest releases of the era.Fronted by the outstanding voice of Kristina Nichols, whose impressive résumé includes session work with Vince Neil, Timothy B. Schmit, and Audrey Landers, The Storm combined exceptional musicianship with rich vocal harmonies and lush keyboard arrangements. Alongside keyboardist Karen Childs, guitarist Joe Palmeri, bassist Tad Dery, and drummer David Logeman, the band created a sophisticated, hook-filled sound that remains as fresh and exciting today as it was nearly four decades ago.Although the band never secured the major-label breakthrough many believed was inevitable, Sweet Surrender quickly became legendary among collectors, with original demo recordings earning glowing reviews even before the album's official release. Belgian magazine Rock Report praised the band's polished production, irresistible melodies, and unforgettable songwriting, ranking The Storm among its favorite discoveries. When Sweet Surrender was finally released on CD, it was immediately embraced by AOR fans worldwide and hailed as one of the finest previously unreleased melodic rock albums of the late 1980s. Often described as a "pure AOR masterpiece," the album delivers one memorable anthem after another, including "Leave Well Enough Alone," "I'll Be Lovin' You," "Hold On," "Sweet Surrender," "Do You Wanna Know," "The Last Time," and "Someone To Love." Several of these songs were later recorded by other artists, further confirming the exceptional quality of the band's songwriting.Overflowing with soaring choruses, shimmering keyboards, tasteful guitar work, and one of the strongest female vocal performances of the genre, Sweet Surrender stands as one of melodic rock's greatest lost classics. Fans of Journey, Heart, Saraya, Witness, Vixen, and classic late-'80s AOR will discover an album that captures everything that made the genre unforgettable. At long last, one of AOR's best-kept secrets can finally be heard as it was always meant to be-an essential melodic rock masterpiece waiting to be rediscovered.
