Spirit Mother is a heavy rock band, originating in Long Beach, CA and now based in rural PNW Burns, Oregon. Their sound is anthologized through a folk-informed and classical lens. Their dynamic and imposing wall of sound, coupled with a driving backbeat, grips through atmospheric strings and haunting vocals.Guitarist/vocalist and songwriter, Armand Lance, creates the bones of the music in the attic of his rural ranch between cattle working and mustang wrangling - a likeness to his father’s upbringing as a cowboy in Ecuador. Joined by cofounder of the band, SJ, Mia Rose, and Michael Fenris, the group convenes at this cabin to write and develop their repertoire before hitting the road for tour nationally and abroad.The band signed to Heavy Psych Sounds Records while in studio for their sophomore album “Trails” in between with regional west coast tours throughout the winter and spring of 2024. The Heavy Chronicles marked it as the black sheep of the Heavy Psych Sounds Records catalog, noting “Trails” reveals a band with a hybrid sound as much inspired by the hypnotic, harsh Americana of rural midwestern ghost towns as by the steamy shoegaze of the early ’90s.The fall release of “Trails” came with another coast-to-coast US tour in the with stops at Desert Fest NYC and Levitation Fest in Austin, Tx, as well as supporting European dates in the summer of 2025 across festivals Rock Im Wald, Blue Moon, Berg Herzburg, and Hoflarm, and clubs across the continent in between.The band returned home and locked themselves away over the Fall and Winter to embark on their most ambitious project yet: to write, record, and self-produce their 3rd studio album in the same attic that inspires the music. From conception, to birth. Spirit Mother’s new album will be out with Sound Of Liberation Records on September 4th, 2026 with European tour dates to follow.

Thistle is the third studio album by the US heavy rock band Spirit Mother, set for release on September 4, 2026, through Sound Of Liberation Records. Recorded in a century-old cabin attic in Oregon, the 13-track record blends fuzz-drenched heavy rock with rustic Americana melancholy.Written, self-recorded, and produced in Armand and SJ Lance’s 100-year-old cabin attic in the high desert of Burns, Oregon.The music, written, recorded and produced by Armands and SJ themselves in the creaking wooden loft of their centuries-old log cabin, is a direct and authentic reflection of their lives and surroundings over the past year. Listen to how the pre-industrial wooden floor and walls of the studio breathe life into every song.Feel the scorching desert sun rise and set over the sagebrush prairie dotted with obsidian. Alongside rattlesnakes, coyotes, wild horses and free-roaming cattle – where their last album ‘Trails’ already hinted at future sonic directions – ‘Thistle’ allows the band’s fully matured sound to come into its own.Spirit Mothers’ characteristic dynamic yet relentless drive, along with their fuzz- and grunge-infused take on rock ’n’ roll, are embedded in the ghost-town and Americana melancholy that is the home of Armand and SJ.
