When “Jackpot“, the debut album from Rome, Italy based band TRIDELI arrived to our desk we were primarily interested because they’re guided by producer and songwriter Mike Della Bella, whose albums are pure quality. Well, TRIDELI does not disappoints. However this is a completely different beast from the MIKE DELLA BELLA PROJECT.“Jackpot” is modern in its delivery, but classic rockin’ funky. Think about the bluesy groove of WINERY DOGS with the shaking energy of EXTREME (just hear third track ‘Shame’). Mentioning these bands require great musicianship, and the four guys in TRIDELI impress in this matter.‘Everything’ took us toward the guitar sound of Bruce Kulick around the “Asylum” era of KISS. It is a track with some pleasing vocal harmonies and a commercial radio-friendly feel. It is one of those numbers that would please lovers of Eighties rock, it has that vibe. A love song at heart, music to drive along and listen to.‘The Loser’; “You were the biggest fake” is the message of this one. It’s bright, commercial rock with a fast guitar driven sound and neat vocals. This one hits a great riff around the 1.36 mark and it is a neat mid-album track. Next “Push It” is good time modern rock however with classy harmonies.“Someday Someday” sounds more late Nineties, kinda SCAREM HAREM melodies mixed with EXTREME at the same era. This is quite different than the previous songs, less funky and more anthemic-like. Strong lyrics too, about that person you want with you as life goes by – you’re lucky if you find her/him, don’t let them get away!“The Echo” is again different, a layered track, with a modern riff and some softer, uplifting vocals and a perfectly acceptable way to futz around. It has some VELVET REVOLVER on it.“Let Yourself Go” closes the album in an emotive rock ballad format. The vocals are very upfront here and the acoustic guitar works really well. A sing-along feel closes the album in a strong manner. It is early 2000’s but still very melodic.Thus, “Jackpot” is an album that wears its influences proudly, chases hooks without apology and reminds you why classic rock still has a place. TRIDELI mixes the ’80s / ’90s / 2000’s sound here, musically cohesive and with stupendous musicianship.It’s a strong debut, makes a statement of rocking intent. The 18-year-old me would have loved it — and the current me found plenty to enjoy too.
