Bio:

The Squirts... "What is up with that name?" Honestly, we're not entirely sure how we settled on that name but it's probably not what you're thinking. We were referencing kids in the Little Rascals era and actually had Matt's son Josh on the cover of the first two "records" wearing a beanie with a propeller. That beanie found it's way onto Matt's head when we used to play live opening for Rick Springfield. We'd play our set then come back out and play Springfield's show... he was cool enough to let us be in his band and the opening act too. The audiences were definitely not there to see The Squirts but we think we may have won some of them over in the end... and at least no one threw tomatoes at us.Fast forward to 2020. Like a lot of people during the COVID lock down, we all had so much time on our hands that you end up digging through stuff and finding things you forgot you had. We found a song we had recorded 15 years earlier that was just living on a hard drive. We re-recorded The Other Side Of Paradise and it was the first song we had for this new project. We never actually talked about or made a plan to write a whole new record, but one song led to another and we just kept going. The strangest part is that we were never in the same room at the same time recording these songs. Not once. We would just send the files back and fourth and it all came together. If there was an unwritten rule it was that each of us could play whatever parts we wanted and knew that it would just work. Something you don't get to do very often working as "sidemen" for other artists. Now that Squirts III is done, we don't mind saying that we are proud of these songs... and we hope you like them too. Play them LOUD!

Album:

Formed while on the road as Rick Springfield's backing band, the LA / Nashville trio, SQUIRTS is a veritable supergroup consisting of lead vocalist / bassist Matt Bissonette, lead guitarist George Bernhardt and drummer Rodger Carter. The three have honed their skills and have increased their own personal popularity over the years by playing alongside a literal who's who of superstars and legends, including the likes of David Lee Roth, Elton John, Glen Campbell, John Waite, Eddie Money, The Mustard Seeds, Hanover Fist, Lee Aaron, ELO and a multitude of others,With 'III,' fittingly the band's third release, you're treated to ten tracks of power pop heaven overload, filled with hooks galore, catchy, at times introspective lyrics and great, powerful songs. You want to know what makes a musician? The music itself never leaves you. You can put your instrument down, you can stop singing, and it’s still in there fighting to get out. III, the third album by The Squirts is just proof of that. Their first release hit in 2003, and their second in 2005. Much like the rest of us with the music inside our souls, during the COVID lockdown, the band was inspired to do it all again. You’d think based on their name that you’d be dealing with crust punk or something, but that is not the case. This is proof that good old rock n roll is not dead in the slightest. From the moment that “Gotta Believe You Now” kicked off, my attention was immediately caught. By the time I got to “Funny You Should Ask”, I felt like I had been listening to these guys since the beginning. There’s a familiarity and comfort in these tracks. The Squirts have mastered catchy harmonies and hooks – “Pins and Needles” will be an earworm for me. That song ROCKS. Same with “Nothing New Under the Sun”, which gives me In Your Honor by Foo Fighters vibes.Matt Bissonette (Vocals/Bass), George Bernhardt (Guitar/Vocals), and Rodger Carter (Drums/Percussion) stated that they were proud of these tracks, and they should be.If you’re a fan of band like Better Than Ezra, Gin Blossoms, and Foo Fighters, with a little taste of Paul Westerberg, then you will love The Squirts and III. Hopefully it isn’t another 20 years before we get more tracks from these guys. Go listen to this record, NOW.
