Bio:

Founded by John Tsiakopoulos and Jim Kotsis in 2012, initially as a side project.Classic Heavy Metal attitude with NWOBHM and Doom epicness and melody. Also influenced from the occult, the Norse and epic mythology.Their debut album, Tales of the Ancient Ones, released on high-profile metal label No Remorse in October 2013, received very favorable reviews in the media and gained lots of praise amongst metalheads worldwide. All this surely added fuel to the band's engine. Preparations for the follow-up album started and, after a seven year wait, Land of Demise, featuring eight new tracks, was released in November 2020 (a limited CD version was released in December 2020).

Album:

4 full-length album.A collection of stories about monsters, famous or otherwise.I enjoyed my last contact with Greece’s Black Soul Horde on their 2020 offering Land of Demise; Their slightly simplistic take on NWoBHM/power metal crossoverism threw up some nice tunes, even if the overall feel was a little faceless. In 2025, it seems to be pretty much business as usual for the band who now, as far as I can work out, are down to the duo (for writing and recording purpose, at least) of vocalist Jim Kotsis and guitarist/producer John Tsiakopoulos.I criticised Kotsis last time around for a slight lack of ambition vocally, and I have to say he does attack the task at hand with real vigour here, throwing in a few King Diamond screams to good effect as required, which is a big step up from his Ozzyesque contributions of the past; Tsiakopoulos remains an impressive guitarist with a good ear for arrangements – there’s an air of class about tracks like Dance of the Eternal Shadows, which closes out the album impressively, that just wasn’t present before. The best material here – the rousing The Creatures of the Night and Julian Graves, which sadly turns out not to be about a boy I went to school with of the same name – is very good indeed, and certainly among the best metal I’ve heard emanating from Greece this year. Our heroes have really found their niche with this kind of classy, exciting heavy metal, and the task now remains for them to sharpen that steel more consistently. For every Julian Graves there’s a What The Night Invokes which doesn’t quite carry the same musical heft, despite some truly impressive bass playing (from Tsiakopoulos again, I think, as no bass player is credited). Tat means half the album remains a little disposable, or at least not quite as enticing a listening prospect.Still, it would be a shame to miss out on the good stuff due to the odd bit o’fluff, so why not have a listen for yourselves? You might be pleasantly surprised!
