Bio:

Warmen is a Finnish metal band assembled by keyboard player Janne Viljami Wirman - also known as Warman. Janne has been playing with Children of Bodom since 1997, and on the year of 2000 created a musical project focused on instrumental work, which would only have guest singers on a few selected songs. The first incarnation of Warmen was composed of Janne, guitarist Sami Virtanen and drummer Mirka Rantanen. This line-up successfully recorded and released the Unknown Soldier album in the same year of the band's formation, with the collaboration of guest singer Kimberly Goss (from Sinergy), guitarist Roope Latvala (also from Sinergy, later also from Children of Bodom) and bassist Jari Kainulainen (from Stratovarius). On the following year, the band saw the addition of Lauri Porra (later in Sinergy and Stratovarius) and Janne's guitarist brother, Antti Wirman (from Kotipelto). This line-up proceeded to record on the Warmen Productions Studio (now name Beyond Abilities) the album Beyond Abilities, a progressive metal album that received critical appraisal.[by whom?] With a more presence and diversity in the vocals, this album made use of the talent of Timo Kotipelto (from Stratovarius), Pasi Nykänen (from Throne of Chaos) and returning vocalist Kimberly Goss.Their third album, Accept the Fact was released in June 2005 and features vocals by Timo Kotipelto, Marko Vaara, Jonna Kosonen and Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom. Alexi performs clean vocals in "Somebody's Watching Me" (originally by Rockwell), which is rare, since in Children of Bodom he has performed clean vocals in one song, a cover of Rebel Yell originally by Billy Idol. The spoken words on the first track 'Accept the Fact' are taken from the Movie Amadeus, spoken by the character Salieri.Children Of Bodom keyboardist Janne Wirman has set "Japanese Hospitality" as the title of the fourth album from his Warmen project, due on August 24 via Spinefarm Records. The 10-song effort includes two cover versions — "Separate Ways", originally recorded by Journey, and "Black Cat" by Janet Jackson, featuring a guest appearance by the Finnish pop/rock queen Jonna Kosonen. Other guest musicians that appear on the CD include Alexi Laiho (Children Of Bodom) and Pasi Rantanen (Ex-thunderstone).On July 9, 2014, Warmen started a campaign on PledgeMusic to have fans help fund the production of the new album, titled First of the Five Elements.

Album:

7th full-length album. If you don't know the band WARMEN, I guess you need to touch up on your Heavy Metal history. WARMEN is the band of keyboardist Janne Wirman. He came to fame as one of the musicians if the late and great CHILDREN OF BODOM, the brainchild of Alexi Laiho. WARMEN first came to the scene in 1999, closely followed by their debut album "Unknown Soldier" in 2000. Now, some 25 year later the band is ready to unleash their seventh studio album to the world. It has been named "Band Of Brothers" and when you do listen to what the band is playing it kind of makes sense, as I don't think that before this one WARMEN ever came this close to the original sound of CHILDREN OF BODOM as they have succeeded in doing now. Well, I'll have to narrow it down a bit, as I do mean the earlier sound of CHILDREN OF BODOM. So, before they tried to be heavier than thou, but solely relied on the quality of Heavy Melodic Death Metal with Thrashy influences they were playing. And I have to say that on "Band Of Brothers" WARMEN have done just that, and it works. The usual guitar solos have been mostly replaced by keyboard solos, but for the rest the songs are simple, solid, straight forward and without any unhidden surprises. What does help is that, as usual, the sound is impeccable, every hit of the instruments is heard and the vocals are in the right ballpark. It makes listening to "Band Of Brothers" a doddle. But therein also lies my reservation. WARMEN might be solid and straight forward, but they have forgotten that an album of over 40 minutes also needs variety and some unexpected elements. And to be quite frank; they are not to be found on "Band Of Brothers". And even though I am really liking what I hear I fear that WARMEN has not given me anything to rave about, to make this album anything different form anything they have before this one. The thing is, if you like what WARMEN has done before, you will eat up this one as well. If you're one of those people, like me, who would like to see and hear progress in the music, you might be disappointed. As far as I'm concerned, the fact that the band has gotten better at copying the sound of the former band and inspiration for WARMEN hasn't make me overly enthusiastic about "Band Of Brothers". It's just a solid record. Nothing more, nothing less.
