Bio:
Celestial Wizard is a fantasy-inspired heavy metal band based out of Denver, Colorado. Formed in 2018, this heavy metal quartet delivers crushing riffs and grand stories of dragons and wizards. Seeking to stand out among the others, Celestial Wizard combines the best elements of death metal with symphonic and synthwave elements creating a unique and engaging sound.
Album:
3 full-length album.Previously established as Solarfall from 2011-2018, they changed names to Celestial Wizard and have released two albums independently with A Sinister Awakening in 2018 and the follow-up Winds of the Cosmos in 2022. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, the quintet sign to Scarlet Records for this third album Regenesis. These days it’s difficult to develop anything original as the styles in metal seem well entrenched, but there’s nothing wrong with approaching multiple aspects from a left-field perspective. Between the dual power / extreme vocal employment, the heavier melodic death musical components and acoustic / electric outside the box elements from old westerns to naturally traditional aspects, there’s a wide array of colors the band chooses when painting their individual tracks. When the group showcases more of the crisp, uplifting riffs they match things up brilliantly for “She Is the Blade” with the duality death meets power metal contrasts vocally between guitarist Nick Daggers and singer Amethyst Noir – taking on a Savatage meets early In Flames / Dark Tranquillity atmosphere. Racing gallops fuel “Into the Abyss”, incorporating those floaty Scandinavian guitar melodies next to a steady set of mid-tempo to speed passages aligning well in the 90s Iced Earth mold – although the Killswitch Engage-like breakdown through a curveball into the mix. The combination musically and vocally keeps the listening experience vibrant – a song like “Pale Horse” including some old Western acoustic lines next to comforting whistles. Stunted guitar action from William Perkins and Mr. Daggers carries “Fangbearer” to first half standout status – intertwining Heartwork-period Carcass with early British/American traditional metal nuances from the 80s, the lead section a textbook example of grace next to stellar virtuoso action. Heads will bang to a latter track winner like “Wicked Master”, the raspy screams serve in tumultuous aggression to the steady supply of power riffs and double kick support. The bright yellow, gold, and brown colors with the evil witch wizard on the horse designed by Dan Goldsworthy (Cradle of Filth, Orden Ogan) certainly gives Regenesis a standout quality when first viewing this in any physical format. Celestial Wizard open themselves up to a host of touring / festival opportunities due to their versatile blend of styles done in a highly convincing manner. One to watch for sure.
