Bio:

Sleaze glam hard rock band from Darlington UK.Formed in 1987, SMASH ALLEY gained a formidable following and reputation very quickly.Only one album "Dead Men Dont Cry" (2024) in limited edition to 500 copies.Jewels’ Collectors Series! A collection of previously unreleased and rare material from the UK glam/sleazy hard rock band SMASH ALLEY, who were active from the late 80s to the early 90s! There were several other bands with the same name in the USA, but this is the first time that UK's SMASH ALLEY has remastered all 14 tracks, including demos, left between 1988 and 1991! From the British POISON feel to the UK band's early TIGERTAILZ and WRATHCHILD flavoured songs, this is a very intriguing album! Some of the tunes have tricky G. inserts like Derek Frigo of early ENUFF Z'NUFF or SHOTGUN MESSIAH! This is one of the inevitable Lost Jewels series, so as always, please buy it before you get worried! In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, the UK Rock scene was overflowing with new bands, all set to take on the old guard. The likes of Thunder, Little Angels, Wolfsbane and The Almighty were making waves and a young bunch of hopefuls from the Northeast of England were hoping to hitch a ride on the stardom express: SMASH ALLEY! Starting life in ’87, SMASH ALLEY made strident steps via some incendiary gigs, packing out local venues. With their demos catching the attention of UK rock magazines like “Metal Forces”, “Iron Fist” and “Kerrang!”, it wasn’t long before the record labels came a calling in the shape of Virgin, EMI and East West. Their ‘Silver Screen Fantasies’ demo was the one that should have broken them, but unfortunately in ’91 the musical climate was on the change and bands like SMASH ALLEY suddenly became yesterday’s news very fast.Born from the foundations laid by the Rolling Stones, The New York Dolls and Hanoi Rocks, and compared to UK bands like The Quireboys, Little Angels and The Dogs D’Amour, SMASH ALLEY came so close, yet so far.Including all their recordings/demos between ’88 and ’91, this CD collection features some great Street/Sleazy Rock material, carefully remastered and with the usual de-luxe booklet and the whole story of the band told by UK Rock-journalist Rob Evans!

Album:

SMASH ALLEY and their collection of previously unreleased songs and demos from 1988 to 1991 make up Volume 27 of the "Lost UK Jewels" series. Obviously inspired by THE QUIREBOYS, CHEAP AND NASTY, FASTER PUSSYCAT and HANOI ROCKS. Unlike their fellow countrymen from THUNDER or LITTLE ANGELS, this four-piece unfortunately didn't break it despite having some really cool tracks on their back. As usual, limited to 500 units, fully remastered and extensive liner notes by UK rock journalist Rob Evans giving the background of the band. Good stuff for sleaze and street rock lovers.Formed in 1987, SMASH ALLEY gained a formidable following and reputation very quickly.Gigging with anyone and everyone, from Wolfsbane, Wrathchild, Cheap and Nasty, Red Dogs, Lisa Dominique, Romeo’s Daughter, and Bomb Disneyland, to their own headline shows, SMASH ALLEY became soon a lethal live band! The theme-tune to your Saturday nights.Dave Shack (on “Metal Forces” magazine) described their music as “a lethal dose of blues based, gutter born, Rock n Roll”.Comparisons to bands like The Quireboys, Cheap And Nasty, Faster Pussycat and Hanoi Rocks come to mind while listening to songs like “Deadmen Don’t Cry”, “Beat City Blues”, “Mind and Soul”, and “Whiskey Glass”, whilst the swaggering “Easy Street” is a nasty Blues and “Rock a Bye Baby” is an epic tune with multiple tempo changes, saxophone and piano.
