Four-piece band from Litomerice founded in 2019.Singer Martin Sluka says: I put the band NO REMORSE together with Petr Prouza some time ago, sometime in 2013-2014. After a while I left the band, because we each wanted to go in a different direction musically. Prouzić kept the band for some time, but as far as I know, he himself was not fully satisfied with the development and decided he would rather make NO REMORSE 2.0, aka FATAL PUNISHMENT. The debut full length from these Czech Thrashers is a devastating brew of face melting proportions to quench every thrashers thirst and break necks! They have definitely attended the eldest academy of Thrash and skillfully mastered all lessons in brutal thrash riffing both the European and American way, melodic, yet aggressive vocals and great soloing. This truly is an age of madness meltdown!The debut of Fatal Punishment from Litomerice was one of the expected thrash metal releases, and not only among domestic listeners. The first samples made it clear that the Czech band was aiming high, better to say far, at least across Europe. This was evidenced by a superb cover song, as well as an excellent and powerful sound. Equally confident was the music, which indicated a combination of classic thrash with hardcore and a touch of modernity. However, the reality in the form of "Age of Madness" turned out to be a bit more complicated. The forty-minute playlist actually covers several genres, but this collage of styles ends up giving a confusing impression. There's no doubt that the four home-grown fighters are brimming with ideas and talent, allowing for smooth renditions of even technically complex instrumental pieces. It just doesn't work within a natural stylistic fusion that feels a bit like a catcall, with a plethora of motifs crammed into one song ("Cruel Vision"), only to fix the music in a completely different genre (the speed 'n' roll "Morbid Fairytale" or the heavy "Spreading Illusion"), or to copy a little bit blatantly from other bands (the riff area in "Facemelter" strongly evoking the work of Kreator). It's not that crucial, though, and moreover, it's likely that everyone will find their own piece of musical happiness in this offering. Litoměřice are best suited to uncomplicated playing, evoking the spirit of the traditional 80s school, which often results in a truly hearty experience, however limited in time. But there is another catch in all this, which concerns the vocal component. The vocals are as changeable as the music itself, and unfortunately similarly unanchored. There are moments on the album where the two streams go against each other, rather than complementing and organically working together. For example, one begins to enjoy a catchy thrash part, but the onset of melodic (if not nu-metal tinged) vocals takes the whole song elsewhere in a very insensitive way. The turns to modernity or eccentric vocals simply didn't need to be here. The result is an album that in some ways stands up to the strength of its European competition, but in others remains trapped in ambivalent currents.
