American Christian rock band from Cedar Rapids, Iowa active from 1988 to 1993.Fighter is the brainchild of guitarist Jim Wolter and his wife vocalist Amy Wolter that plays 80's style rock with gutsy female vocals and Godly lyrics.They played arena style rock such as Def Leppard and Journey with hooks and melodies galore.
Album:
Second full-length album.It was the second (and sadly last) album from this band from Iowa. Lead vocal duty’s were shared by Amy Wolter & Sean Murphy (who also played drums). Having two lead vocalists (one male, and one female) actually provided this band with great dymanics and variety.The music is rockin, full of hooks and radio friendly, but all in a good way.Great lyrics too.Supposedly the band had been around since 1986, but their first release “The Waiting” didn’t surface until 1991. Sadly the band did not continue, but Amy Wolter did go on to release a solo album entitled "Hit Me in the Heart" in 1994. Slightly more 'pop' orientated it still has a lot in common with both of Figther's albums (but with only Amy on lead vocals).Fighter was a Melodic AOR Christian Rock band.They released 2 albums in the early 90's.Fighters first album THE WAITING was released in 1991 and BANG THE DRUM was released in 1992.Vocals were handle both by Amy Wolter and Sean Murphy.They played area style rock with hooks and melodies that rocked. Dual vocals proved to work great for them and provided dynamics not seen by a lot of other bands.Nevertheless, Fighter is more than a band. They are practical Christians with a message of hope. Brief explanations of most tracks given with the lyrics. Real issues are tackled headlong: "Avalanche" - the dangers of living for pleasure; "Time Out" and "Where Can Love Be Found" describe hurting people like us needing God's love.The mixed vocals of Sean Murphy and Amy Wolter make this band stand out from the crowd.This album is a fantastic arena rock album and the production is dead on. The opening 3 tracks suck you right in so that you’ll listen to the rest of the album.My one slim criticism is that I would have liked some more vocals from Amy Wolter, maybe just one more track. Anyway this is a great arena rock albums and probably the best in the genre for the period.
