Bio:
Marchello was an 80's band that practiced a hard rock / AOR style and that only came to publish an album officially, called "Destiny"...1989's Destiny was the debut album from American melodic hard rock band Marchello. Led by guitarist/vocalist Gene Marchello, the band had a great melodic rock sound with plenty of hard rock punch and an almost European polish. I'd put them in the same general area as bands like TNT, White Wolf and Treat, with perhaps a little Europe and Aldo Nova pop sensibility thrown in for good measure.Too polished for the Hollywood hair scene, and not heavy enough for the metal scene, Marchello had a tough time breaking through, so Destiny ended up being their only album. It's a shame, because the band had a great sound. Gene Marchello serves up some very impressive guitar theatrics, and they're balanced with plenty of catchy hooks and melodies. The lyrics get a bit silly at times, but hey, it was the `80s after all. The vocals are solid, as is the overall production. It's just a good, enjoyable melodic rock album all around. If you're a fan of the `80s melodic rock sound, Marchello is a band you'll definitely want to hear. Unfortunately Destiny is long out of print and not easy to track down. I'm surprised a label like Wounded Bird or Rock Candy hasn't reissued this `80s gem yet.
Album:
Destiny was the debut and only album from American melodic metal rock band Marchello. This foursome was led by guitarist/vocalist Gene Marchello. The band had a great melodic pop metal sound with plenty of punch and added an almost European polish in areas. Marchello serves up some very impressive guitar theatrics - they're balanced with plenty of catchy hooks and melodies. His style at times reminds me of Vinnie Vincent Invasion. The vocals are solid, as is the overall production. When Marchello launched into the scene, they seemed to be too tame for the Hollywood glam hair scene, and not heavy enough for the full on metal scene, thus they had a tough time breaking through. ‘First Love’ has an absolute killer gang chorus and is one of many album standouts. ‘Tight Pants’ sounds like a metal version of Journey, even down to the Steve Perry-like melodic vocal delivery and Neil Schon solo riffing. Album opener ‘Brown Eyes’ is single worthy melodic pop metal at its finest. Marchello align with bands like TNT, White Wolf and Treat, with a little Europe and Aldo Nova pop sensibility thrown in for good measure.
