Bio:

It's the late 90's and the last thing I want is another grunge good-for-nothin' band, let alone the "metal" scene! Helloween clones and riffless, sololess Nu "Metal" monkeys. So there I am (me = Witchkiller) sitin' on my favorite sofa and listenin' to John Lee Hooker’s (GOD) "Letter To My Ex" just after finishin' listenin' to the almighty "Metal Inquisition" from the legendary Canadian Metal Gods Piledriver!Just before I got to finish my glass of Southern Comfort I got a call from my friend, Stormtrooper sayin': "Man, I'm listenin' to Armageddon- Kratos right now and it just hit me: Let's form a band, let's play some Heavy Motherfuckin' Metal the way we dig it". So there we were, we had no name, no band, just a few riffs and...A HUGE URGE TO BE FILTHY!After a couple of months some friends, Billy The Kid on Guitar, Iron Mike the Basskiller on the Bass and Hellhound on Drums, joined in and that my dear kids was the first STEAMROLLER ASSAULT line up. Unfortunately Iron Mike decided to split on August 2000 but thank Cronos (Cronos = GOD) his place was soon filled by the perverted asshole destroyer Zerstörer!

2001
The recordings of our self-titled, self-financed CD started and finished just about 3-4 months later. 'Round October Hellhound decided to split from the band. A good friend of the band, Mad Dog, joined giving the band a necessary kick in our lazy asses!

After releasing our debut, we started gigin' with bands like SHADOWPLAY, CELESTIAL ODE, BLOOODSTAIND, VERDICT DENIED, POWERCRUE and more. Doin' nothin' in particular but rehearsin' and gigin'.

2006
3 years later we started recording our second CD, entitled "Raw & Filthy". We had problems with our daytime jobs and some more in order to finish the recording and mixing, but once again, thank CRONOS we managed it.

During summer, Stormtooper made a hard decision and called it a day as far as him being a member of the band that was. The gap was huge but soon enough Nick - The Metal Machine was available and joined in spilling his lungs on the mic!

After a couple of years performing live and a million or so changes in the line up we ended up finding Trouble to fill up for the Bass and Namiroth to torture the microphone.

2010 - 2012
So we end up in 2010 with plans in recording new stuff. Well, it didn't go as planned since Mad Dog and Trouble left the band. The quest for the man to seat behind the drum-kit ended with the recruitment of Pimp, who sounds like a god damned anvil from hell!!

After millions or so bassists auditions we decided to pick the one that managed to rape our ears faster than the speed of light .With the recruitment of Burner, who reeks of pungent stench and looks like a motherfuckin' hound of hell. Having a rhythm section with those qualifications the relationship was inevitable!

2013 - 2017
After plenty of live gigs and rehearsals the band entered the studio to record the 3d album “Dead Man’s Hand”. The recordings and mixing lasted around a year but we felt unhappy with the result and we went in another studio to re-mix the album. During the re-mix, we were invited by the Greek Metal Hammer Magazine to record a Motorhead song in memory of Lemmy for the magazine’s compilation “Greek Motorbastards”.A good friend of the band and sound engineer, Nick Papakostas told us that he wanted to fully record and produce the song we would choose. We went for “Burner” and the result was amazing. So guess what…we decided to throw everything we had done so far and re-record the album with Nick. We had already done many mistakes from the previous recordings, we learned from those mistakes so we knew what to do from now on…The album was fully produced 6 months after we entered Entasis Studio with Nick and it will be released in April 2017 by Eat Metal records!

Album:

For today’s review, we have yet another Greek band, “Steamroller Assault” that are about to return after 11 years of absence with their 3rd full-length album, called “Dead Man’s Hand”. The album is going to be released this month through Eat Metal Records.Personally, before I even begin to think of reviewing an album, I must listen to the material plenty of times, as many as I possibly can. Most likely, I will be able to tell if I like it or not, from the first time I play the album. That was the case for “Dead Man’s Hand” as well, I enjoyed it at first blush but to be completely honest, I was able to appreciate it even more, as I kept listening to it. There are those small details that you are unable to notice the first time you listen to an album, because of the high volume of new information that comes along with it. As I keep on listening, I can distinguish the detailed work these guys have done, it’s definitely a well worked album.“Dead Man’s Hand” starts with the self-titled track that has a Speedy approach, but Steamroller Assault are about to surprise you down the line. They present a very interesting combo of various musical influences, presented with filthy aesthetics and supported by great sound. Catchy choruses that get stuck in your mind (to be honest, many bands lacking on that department nowadays), many good ideas that get delivered by good musicians. Apart from the self-titled track, since typically those are the “hits” of any album, “Evil is my Middle Name” is certainly one of the most powerful songs, a catchy one that will make you sing along. My personal favorite that made it to my playlist of choice, is “Midnight Blues”. It’s fast, dirty and rousing, excellent performance by the vocalist and a great solo!“Dead Man’s Hand” is an honest and neat album, has its own character and aesthetic. The production is exactly how it’s supposed to be and same applies to the artwork as well, that captures Steamroller Assault’s style, perfectly. As a Metal music fan, that was brought up listening to Blues and Southern Rock as a child (thanks dad, you’re the best), I suggest you grab one -or more- glasses of bourbon and enjoy this album.
