Bio:

The legendary AOR band Bad Habit formed in Lund, Sweden in 1986 by Hal Marabel and now ex-keyboard player Doc Pat Shannon. They released their first album (mini-album) ‘Young & Innocent’ in 1987 and were actually the first band to get an independantly produced music video aired on Swedish national TV. The video was of their first ever single release ‘Need Somebody’.The band have since released 7 albums, their latest of them released in 2005, entitled [hear-say].

Album:

Recorded in 1989, released in Japan in 1996.Included insert and catalog MVP (View photos)A discussion on Scandinavian AOR would be incomplete without mention of Malmo based outfit Bad Habit. Timing their run through the 80's and dodging hair-metal bullets along the way, this classy five-piece straddled the fence between hair-metal and AOR, ending up like a cross between Danish boys *Fate*, Norwegians *Davinci* and fellow Swedes *Glory*. They did have an intriguing sound, enhanced by Hal Johnsto's *Brian May* like guitar lines. Signed to Sony/CBS for a 6 track demo called 'Young And Innocent' released in 1988, the band traded labels and moved to Virgin Records for the release of their debut album in 1989 called 'After Hours'.Bad Habit's credentials are given rock-solid endorsement on their opening cut 'Living On The Edge'. A racy number with a swag of keyboard and guitar melodies competing with each other. 'Rainbow' follows a path similar to *Davinci* and features a gorgeous chorus. 'Do't Stop' is a blatant attempt at party rock, while an album like this would be incomplete without a soaring ballad of which 'Never Find Another You' fits the bill perfectly. One of the best moments here is the melody drenched 'Rowena', for which there is a video for it. 'The Winner Takes It All' is another racy up-tempo affair, and to end the album, the band deliver the *Boston* classic 'More Than A Feeling'. Quite cheeky of them to pull this out on a debut record. Not a pinch on the original mind you /(but what is?)/, though it's admirable nonetheless.Bad Habit soldiered on for a few more years, but pulled up short as the onslaught of grunge took over. To their credit, the band reconvened in 1995 for the 'Revolutio' album, plus 1998's 'Adult Orientatio' album.Hal Johnston (aka Hal Marabel) also participated in the pop/metal outfit *Arena* who were prominent during 2003. By 2005, Bad Habit had signed to Frontiers Records for the release of their 'Hear-Say' album. It seems the band are still a going concern, which is good news indeed.
