Bio:
Band from Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany formed in 1981."Metal"-Harry Elbracht and 3 of his buddies (Rolli Borchert, Sydney Keller and Reiner Gollan) have been hard rock and heavy metal freaks for years. They grew up with their heroes from Judas Priest, Ted Nugent and other bands from the USA (e.g. Riot, Molly Hatchet, Y&T) and England (Motörhead, Saxon, Iron Maiden), and they want to show the world that cool music is also possible in Germany. In a windowless room in an old bunker in Altenessen (with neighbours like Kreator, Sodom or Living Death), the walls are soundproofed with mattresses from the bulky waste, money for used equipment (ugly but loud) is scraped together, a fridge is packed full of beer, plugs in and WROOOOM... MAD BUTCHER was born. The guys learn to replay songs from the releases of obscure bands of the NWOBHM (Jaguar, Quartz, Bitches Sin, Holocaust, Weapon, Paralex , Handsome Beast etc.) and hope that no one will recognise the originals at the first gigs in schools, youth centres and leisure centres...as encores MAD BUTCHER carve brutal versions of Motörhead's "Overkill" and Priest's "Breaking the law" among the grateful banger crowd...Destruction (German thrash pioneers from Weil a.R., who released an EP called Mad Butcher in 1987 and also copied the cover design) met the band for the first time in 1983 at a joint concert with Sodom and Kreator in Essen, they seemed to have liked the name Mad Butcher...In the course of the next few years, the line-up carousel turned (well-known names like Michael Rindfuß, Mario Liese, Bimbo Mikuscheit or Volker Jäckel did the honours), everything became more professional, own songs were written, they played their asses off in the district, own band bus, own PA, 24-channel mixing console, oh yeah. Finally, the incredible guitar hero Rolli Borchert joined the band and Reiner Gollan was stapled to the drum stool.1985 the first LP: Metal Lightning Attack, released on the legendary Earthshaker label. Gigs with Steeler, Warlock, Helloween, Faithful Breath, Sinner, Grave Digger, Trance, Cutty Sark..Aardshock Festival , Dynamo, Scream Festival with live broadcast on WDR radio... it gets growing...1987 the 2nd LP: Metal Meat on the rip-off label Metal Enterprise by the Guru from Usingen: Ingo Nowottny.1986 the jump to the USA, contacts with Slayer, Exodus, Heathen, Laaz Rockit, Brocas Helm. Our dreamboy Metalharry becomes a bandleader at Metal Hammer.Since he and his gang don't care about any hypes and trends, don't shit on anyone, enter the stages with shorts , short hair and glasses (1986!!!!), ironically prank the audience - MAD BUTCHER becomes a discontinued model. They don't see a tired mark from their releases - that's the business. The oh-so-hard metal scene now only tolerates sinister, rivet-covered spandex cheeks, completely slammed, calling for hell. Thrash, black and death metal, gothic, doom and grunge don't mean a thing to these guys. Cool biker and boogie rock, played with drive and groove is their thing. Of course, they are completely out of step with the scene in the nineties. But a real rocker perseveres...In 1989, 10 songs are professionally recorded in the studio of Faithful Breath in Witten, but because the scene is splitting up more and more, there will unfortunately be no third album, there are only rejections, Thrash, Black and Death Metal are the hype now. MB is no longer in keeping with the times, the gigs and the boys' enthusiasm are dwindling. The consequence: from 1992 to 2020 silence returns....THEN in 2020 Metalharry finds a lost CDR recording from 1988 and an incredible story takes its course...30 years later there is a worldwide interest in the old material, finally the release of these lost tracks on the 3rd CD in the USA follows. Further re-releases of the first two LPs both as CD and vinyl Metal Lightning Attack Metal Meat Plus the CD eat the Rat with rare demo recordings and live recordings from 1983-85 also Asia and South America will release CDs and cassette tapes in 2022 In addition a unique reunion concert will take place on 22.04.2022 with 3 of 4 original members ! Rolli Borchert - all guitars Reiner Gollan - drums Metalharry Elbracht - vox Plus a new bassplayer : Nr. Nihil Baxter So stay tuned what happened to these Heavy Metal Pioneers est.1981.
Album:
Stormspell Records Edition released on June 15, 2020.Mad Butcher were one of the first heavy metal pioneers laying the foundation of the amazing German metal scene. Founded back in 1981 as a NWOBHM worship at first, before carving their own niche of highly energetic power/speed metal attack. What you have here is their early 1983 demo, self-recorded at their rehearsal room and selected local live shows. 70 minutes of energetic hard'n'heavy metal, heavily influenced by current (at the time) NWOBHM bands like Diamond Head, Holocaust, Jaguar, Bitches Sin, Weapon UK, Demon, Satan, Tokyo Blade, as well as Judas Priest, Ted Nugent, early Van Halen, Anvil, Riot, etc.The demo was not released officially or commercially distributed, but used as showcase for local clubs and festival promoters. So in a way it is a true rarity, a small remnant of a glorious past and a must-have for every die-hard 80s heavy metal maniac.Audio transfers by Patrick Engel at Temple of Disharmony Studio.Audio restoration and remastering by Brandon Seyboth at Headroom Labs.Coverart by Yannick Bouchard.
