Bio:

Chronosphere was formed in Athens back in 2009, by Spyros Lafias(Vocals/Guitar) and Kostas Spades(Bass/Backing Vocals) & members. They started off as an old-school thrash metal band, but later on they changed their musical direction. These days,Chronosphere consist of Spyros Lafias(Vocals/Guitar), Kostas Spades(Bass/Backing Vocals),Thanos Krommidas(Drums), Panos Tsampras(Guitar/Backing Vocals) and they are delivering new wave of thrash metal. The band counts one demo release (Hypnosis, recorded at Made In Hell Studios in 2010), participation in Manifesto Music Movement's compilations with one track in each release(Vol.1 & Vol.2, 2010 & 2011 respectively), and of course the debut album (Envirusment, recorded at Esoteron Studios in 2011 / released by Athens Thrash Attack + Eat Metal records). All of the releases above, were supported by numerous shows, appearances in festivals, a tour in Greece, sharing the stage with some of the most well known Greek bands including worldwide known legends Rotting Christ and Suicidal Angels along with UK thrashers Evile. The icing on the cake in the band's career so far, apart from their appearance at Metaldays festival, is their performance at Wacken Open Air 2013 festival. Worth to mention also the participation on Greek Metal Hammer tribute to Metallica (#348).On 2014, recordings of band’s 2nd full length album were over . Chronosphere signed a contract with Punishment 18 Records + Spiritual Beast for a European and a Japanese release of "Embracing Oblivion" and it hit the road to unleash its new wave of razor sharp riffs supporting thrash legends Sodom, Destruction and many more!!

Album:

Cliches occur primarily because there is some degree of truth to them, otherwise they wouldn't bear repeating beyond maybe a few times. They can be a bit annoying at times because they tend to be obvious, and often come in conjunction with shallowness or lack of integrity, thus morphing into the cultural bromide/platitude. Nevertheless, there are certain cliches that tend to work well and remain fairly honest in spite of themselves, and this mostly comes into the form of shameless Metallica worship insofar as a number of prominent thrash revival bands are concerned. Most are very familiar with the likes of former Metallica tribute band towards major revivalist player out of Britain Evile, and maybe a few less so of their longer-winded epic answer from Norway Tantara. Greece, on the other hand, has generally tended towards a more Teutonic and death metal tinged take on the style fielding banks such as Suicidal Angels and Drunkard, but a bit more recently an act going by Chronosphere has opted for a greener sound (as opposed to red), sporting a heavily Bay Area inspired musical onslaught to boot. The one area where this fold of Greeks tends to differ from a number of other bands featuring a Hetfield inspired riff set and gruff-immersed vocal display on their debut Envirusment is that they tend to keep things a bit more concise. Indeed, this proves to be somewhat of a fitting approach for an environmentally and politically obsessed outfit given the tendency to shorter, more punk informed modes of songwriting courtesy of Nuclear Assault and D.R.I. The musical content reminds heavily of Master Of Puppets, but stripped away of all the experimental noodling and long-winded repetition and development, or to put it more plainly, this album listens a bit closer to a collection of songs modeled after "Battery" and "Disposable Heroes" almost 100% exclusively, presented mostly in bite sized servings. There's an occasional nod to later 80s Testament here and there whenever balladry enters the equation (which is not terribly frequent), and the lead guitar work is more along the highly expressive and flashy character of Alex Skolnick than the venting pentatonic bursts of Kirk Hammett, but otherwise this listens like pure Metallica worship stylistically. The downside with an album such as this is that the approach, while highly exciting the first few times through, tends to wear a bit thin as the songs tend not to differ from each other too much. The band does take a few opportune moments to mix things up a bit on the lone long song on here "War Infection", which features a lot of masterful lead guitar displays and an extended acoustic outro with plenty more of said expressive guitar shredding, much like the frequent haunting quiet sections that would occur either at the beginning or end of almost every song heard on The New Order. It's a bit more effective here as it isn't overused throughout the album and it's also a bit less repetitious. A few other moments come in a fairly predictable fashion, but also in a catchy one that has a bit more staying power, such as the straight up thrasher "Genetically Determined" and the gallop happy speeder "Never Better", which manages to listen like a perfect hybrid of a high speed Metallica number with bits and piece of Slayer-influenced riff work around the edges. There isn't really a whole lot to complain about with an album like this, though it struggles to stand out amid an ever-growing number of bands rushing to fill the void ever since the early 90s when Metallica decided they were more interested in filling stadiums with jocks and browsing teeny-bop types than thrashing everybody's heads off. I can say with full confidence that this is better than anything that their inspirational forefathers have put out in the past 20 years, but that's not really saying a lot. This might function as a good alternative for those seeking a shorter and more consistently fast version of what Evile does, but it doesn't quite surpass being simply good and solid and become something that demands worship the way Tantara's Based On Evil or Evile's Enter The Grave does. But for those who inhale thrash metal like candy, this will do nicely enough.

Album:

Sophomore album for the Athenian thrashers and anticipation is hitting reds. For those unaware, CHRONOSPHERE are one of the rising underground Thrash acts Greece has to offer. Given their debut “Envirusment” was a great release as Thrash goes, these guys are now here to prove they are no shooting star.Scorching ultra-sonic riffage greets us right from the start. Just as it should be. “Killing My Sins” is one of those songs that make you say “Damn, I really wanna see this live”. The album follows suit with tunes like “One Hand Red Per Saint”, “Force Fed Truth”, well, all of them, no need to just write the songs once more, you have the tracklist over there anyway. Just rest assured, headbanging galore is coming your way.Fast killer riffs, frantic guitar solos, great vocals by Spyros supplemented by the rest of the guys in choruses, and furious bone-crushing drums by Thanos. Kinda reminds me of older TESTAMENT meets OVERKILL meets EXODUS, and all in a good way.Surely not pionnering stuff, that has been done back in the 80's anyway. But no rip-off either, CHRONOSPHERE pay homage to their heroes, but do that honestly and you can clearly hear it.Running at 41 minutes, “Embracing Oblivion” is a hell of an album, thrashy and fun as fuck, that you're bound to thoroughly enjoy, if you're into Thrash anyway. And if you're not, who knows, these guys might make you like it.

Album:

The thrash scene in Greece has gotten bigger and better over the past few years with bands like Suicidal Angels and War Device. Leading the charge though are Chronosphere, whose fantastic brand of aggressive thrash has garnered a fair amount of attention in recent few years. Their first album, Envirusment, was a favorite among many thrashers and Embracing Oblivion was a very strong follow-up. After three years, they have come back with Red n’ Roll, a title which may indicate a change in style for the band.We had already known the power of the Greek Chronosphere with their second album, "Embracing Oblivion" and we were duly impressed. Because? Well, because they have thraaaaaaaaaaaaaaash in the soul. And we too. Sister souls are destined to meet. "Red N 'Roll" is the third album of the band and if the myth is correct, this is the album that defines the band's career. As far as we are concerned, it does not bring us anything that we have not already anticipated. Thrash metal full of claw, virtuosity and great songs. And here is the secret of the thing. The way your songs can pierce a sea of commonplace places and hundreds of other bands do precisely the same. This is a fun album to listen to because it brings us back to those innocent times where we were taking the first steps in style and we were amazed at the riffs, the solos, the harmonies. "Red N 'Roll" proves to be an appropriate title, after all, the rhythm always walks on the redline and closer than this kind of just rock'n'roll fun.
