Bio:

ATTICA RAGE are a heavy rock band from Glasgow, Scotland who are earning a solid reputation for their bone-rattling, energetic, powerful performances at headline shows, tours and festivals across UK and Europe, with three critically-acclaimed albums under their belt.Having supported and shared festival bills with the likes of Judas Priest, Slash, Black Label Society, Down, Anthrax and Saxon amongst others, the Attica Rage live experience has been proven to fill outdoor arenas as much as it does the clubs and venues. UK festival appearances include High Voltage, Hard Rock Hell, Hammerfest, Bulldog Bash and Cambridge Rock Festival; while European highlights have included Metalcamp (now Metaldays, Slovenia); HRH Road Trip (Ibiza) and Wizzfest (Belgium). Attica Rage continue to take their brand of hard n’ heavy biker rock n’ metal sounds out on the road with headline tours across the UK.In summer 2012 as part of the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards bash, Attica Rage performed to hundreds of fans, industry and media onboard the ‘HMS Hammer’ pre-show boat party along with Shadows Fall, Fozzy, While She Sleeps and Evil Scarecrow as it sailed along the River Thames in London towards the main awards event at the 02 Arena.Formed in Glasgow in 2003 by brothers Richie Rage (drums) and Jonny Parr (vocals/guitar), Stevie Bell (guitar) joined in 2007 with Matthew Ward (bass) joining in 2014. Following an early EP in 2005, the band released their debut album Ruin Nation in 2008 on their own label, featuring a cover sleeve by iconic Motorhead artist Joe Petagno. In 2011, Attica Rage signed to Manchester label, Rocksector Records for the UK release of second album Road Dog. Album track Through the Inner Eye was featured by Classic Rock magazine as ‘Track of the Day’ with a free download offered on their website and album opener 36 Insane was included on a Metal Hammer magazine cover-mount CD. Attica Rage subsequently signed to Off Yer Rocka Recordings and Road Dog was released worldwide in May 2012, with two additional bonus live tracks. Two video singles, directed by Colin Wood Media, for the tracks Ashamed and 36 Insane were also released during 2012, with the latter winning ‘Video of the Year’ at the Scottish New Music Awards. Before songwriting began for the next album, Attica Rage contributed an emotionally-charged and revamped cover version of Killer of Giants on a US-released Ozzy Osbourne tribute album in June 2012.December 2012 saw the worldwide release of third album 88MPH on Off Yer Rocka, along with an independently-released 2-disc DVD, Road Dog Forever - the long-awaited live concert and documentary film, directed by Colin Wood and chronicling the two year period the band spent writing, recording and touring the Road Dog album. Attica Rage promoted 88MPH throughout 2013. A main stage appearance at Hammerfest VI in Wales kick-started 2014 and the band are planning a definitive live album release in summer followed by a full UK and European headline tour in autumn. The band are also currently writing material for new studio album.

Album:

Attica Rage have easily topped their 2008 debut album.Over the last few years I've seen Scottish metal band Attica Rage many times at Hard Rock Hell and Hammerfest, gaining in popularity each time and moving up through the stages and later playing times to the point where a new record deal was the inevitable next step. Musically they've changed too, the songs from this album that were aired on the main stage of last years Hard Rock Hell being far more mature and well-crafted than their previous metal/thrash fare, although it should be pointed out to long-term fans that they certainly haven't left those influences completely behind, no sir!For those that like the simpler, heavier, faster songs, the album is book-ended by two such examples in the thrashy '36 Insane' and live favourite 'Back To The Old School', each based around the twin guitars of Stephen Bell and vocalist Johnny Cook-Parr, the bass rumble of Big C and the double-bass drumming of Richie Rage, however, it's the filling in this sandwich where most of the tastiest bits can be found. 'Hacked For Vanity' is more hard rock than metal and is a sneering ode to plastic surgery sung Ozzy-style, whilst 'High' is one of many melodic metal songs with well-thought out arrangements and melody lines, and 'Swimming With Sharks' has all the best points of those two rolled into one song. This website uses cookies to help us give you the best experience when you visit. The band have come the longest way forward on 'Through The Inner Eye', a mature song with a mellow verse that could almost pass for a power ballad, and 'Lost' also has gentle verses, sweeping strings and hints of the great Y&T song 'Rescue Me'. If it all sounds a bit too clever you could always opt for the Maiden-esque 'Altered Reality' or the unmistakable British metal of 'Road Dog Forever', complete with some tasty slide guitar. With a powerful and clear sound, Attica Rage have easily topped their 2008 debut album 'Ruin Nation' and the progression in writing and playing is impressive. One thing's for sure, their days of playing the Queen Vic pub in Prestatyn are well and truly over.
